First Impressions

PieceofGosa just gave me a great idea in another thread. I don't think i've seen a thread about this yet, but I could be wrong.

The point of this is to share with everyone else which moments were TOTAL shockers when you first watched both shows. So let's get on memory lane, be very honest and tell others what we didn't see coming in our first viewings 🙂

I'll post mine tomorrow, i'm tired as hell right now! Hopefully this garner some interest 😛

Angel's hair at the opening of s5, lol.
Yes really, but I'll think of a real show "moment" and be back. The only one I can think of right now are Dollhouse shockers.

The first scene of Buffy. The BLONDE GIRL is the villain? Have the world gone mad!?! lol

And Cordelia is evil, what the hell! No wait, it's not Cordelia, it's something else! Angel brain raped everybody! Harmony is back!?! NOOOO!!

The geeks will rape Katrina!?! Ben is GLORY!!! Angel's back from Hell! The fear demon is tiny!!!! The actors can sing!?!

The entire Cordy arc on AtS made me want to stop watching the series because I thought the writers had seriously lost it. And then the Jasmine arc made me realize that it was an elaborate and rathr tragic setup. It WASN'T just that she started to look and sound and act nothing like Cordelia. Losing her money begats her Starlet Ambition begats being Russel Winters snack begats starting AI to make cash begats meeting Doyle begats being Vision Girl begats being part-demon begats the "Higher Power ascension" begats being Amnesia Girl begats Jasmi-Cordy begats Connelia begats ComaCordy begats her death in YW.

Angel's hair at the start of S5 was quite shocking!

I really can't remember my reactions the first time I watched a lot of BtVS & AtS. I've been a Buffyverse fan for so long and have the seen the episodes so many times.

I do remember talking about some of the storylines at school when they first aired. "And then he stole her underwear!" "Can you believe he tried to rape her?!"

I agree, but mostly concerning Anya's season 7 fashion. Some of those outfits were outright hideous especially in combo with that curly blonde do she sported for a while

I don't really remember much from when I first watched the series. It was pretty much a blur of tiredness and squee, lol.

But, I do remember one thing that completely shocked me... Spike getting his soul back. The writers had me fooled in thinking he was going to get his chip out, so that final scene of season 6? Complete surprise.

I read tons of spoilers before I watched BtVS so I wasn't shocked much with any big scenes. But in Ats, there's a lot shocking moments for me.

- Angel snaps Jenny's neck!
- Faith: "What can I say. I'm the world's best actor." Angel: "Second best."
- The Fear demon!
- Dawn is not Buffy's sister!
- Ben is Glory!
- Buffy was in heaven!
- Buffy gets it on with Spike!
- Caleb stabs Molly!
- Anya was chopped in a half! 🙁

Angel
- Doyle is dead!
- Wesley is the Rogue Demon Hunter!
- Darla is resired!
- Darla is pregnant!
- Holtz takes Connor away!
- Angel attacks Wesley!
- Connor is back!
- Wesley sleeps with Lilah!
- Connor with Cordelia!
- Cordy kills Lilah!
- Wesley shoots his own father!
- Angel kills Drogyn!

I remember flipping out when Tara died.
Buffy in heaven.
Adam's making an army?!?
OH snap! That old guy's about to bleed Dawn!!
Glory's a God?!?
Ben is Glory?!?
Joyce's death in the episode before The Body.
Xander's eye
Anya's death
Holy moly, they're all Slayers!
Spike killed these guys?!? How? Who? Why?


DOYLE!
Angel's leaving Dru and Darla in the room with the lawyers.
OMG That's Connor's blood he's been drinking?!?!?!?
Why did Wesley take Connor!
Like every plot-hole in AS4. I had no idea any of that was coming. Especially Jasmine.
Fred going into convulsions on the stairs after singing. Man, that part's intense.

It's hard to think of a lot because I watched BS6 and AS4 first, and I got a couple of spoilers here too.

 

[Vengeance]

Moments where I had to step back from the TV and just thought.. "Wow.. they really just did that?":

Angel having his soul returned at the last moment (this one, a thousand times this one, the moment it happened I had to pause the episode.. I was so shocked after I finished the episode I just had to go lie down for 30 minutes)
Killing off Cordelia in The Wish halfway through
The big reveal at the end of Enemies
The vision sequence in No Place Like Home (You're not my sister.)
We will return.. YOUR SOUL (also a big shocker)
CassieTheFirst revealing herself in Conversations with Dead People
Empowering all the potentials in Chosen
Darla staking herself in Lullaby (huuuge shock, my jaw dropped IRL for this one)

Hmm, it's hard to remember many BtVS and AtS ones. I spoiled myself on the big things so y'know...but a few I can remember:


Enemies: 'Second best!' Totally awesome. It's my favourite ever episode and its the moments like that that make it so! It was a total 'punch the air' moment for me.

Giles' return at the end of season six.

Larry being killed by the Mayor.

Xander's eye in season seven.

Doyle!

Wes getting his throat slit.

But the biggest one ever for me is from Dollhouse and the reveal of the person behind Rossum. If you've seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about, if you haven't seen it, well then shame on you! 😛
This moment honestly left me visibly shocked. I went back downstairs and my friends were like 'what's wrong' and that was after sitting staring at the screen with my mouth open for ten minutes!

Thanks to everbody for replying haha 😛 It's not easy remembering these first impressions when it's been years. Here are mine!

- BtVS

- When they reveal the Anointed One was the little boy at the end of 'Never Kill a Boy on the First Date'.
- In 'Halloween' when our nice Giles suddently show a much more dark side of himself and start beating up Ethan.
- In 'What's my Line: Part 1', when we find out that girl fightning Buffy isn't one of the assassins but a Vampire Slayer.
- When Ted suddently appears behind Buffy in her room after she killed him(OMG!).
- When Angel come back from hell at the end of 'Faith, Hope & Trick'.
- Buffy realizing Faith told Giles it was Buff who killed the Deputy Mayor.
- When Angel reveal he was acting all the way in 'Enemies'!! What??
- Jonathan giving Buffy the Class Protector award in 'The Prom'!
- Angel receive an arrow right in the chest(I actually thought he was gonna dust first time around) in 'Graduation: Part 1'.
- The Fear Demon in 'Fear Itself'. Lol they fooled me too!
- Adam stabs Walsh from behind at the end of 'The I In Team'.
- When we see Dawn for the first time in 'Buffy vs Dracula' and Joyce ask Buffy to take her 'sister'.
- Buffy get stabbed by a random vamp at the beginning of 'Fool for love' WTF??
- Joyce dead on the couch at the end of 'I Was Made to Love You'.
- Riley appearing at the fast food in 'As You Were'.
- Warren shooting Buffy and Tara in 'Seeing Red'(uh oh!).
- 'We will restore your soul!!' WHAT!
- The bomb at the end of 'Touched'.

Honestly... I can't remember. 😀 I started watching when I was eight (and I started in the 5th season...), so I'm not sure if I really comprehended anything. I dunno. I suppose that the "Bringing the house down" scene in Smashed was a surprise, haha. 😀

I read some spoilers and I remembered some stuff from when I was little so some of the bigger moments didn't surprise me.

But I'll try to remember some;

- Willow returning Angel's soul at the last minute; Buffy having to kill him. I just kept saying 'it was so sad' over and over :lmao:
- Enemies. I seriously thought it was Angelus!
- Buffy being in heaven. ~shocking swerve much?!
- Angel going dark. wtf Angel!
- Angel killing Drogyn. Not cool 🙁

There's much more but I can't remember 😛

The biggest ones is probably Dawn and Tara's death.

I had clue about Dawn so it was a huge wtf moment and I really didn't see Tara's death coming either.
Was quite happy that season 6 finally was turning a bit brighter... then a few seconds later - BANG!

Think Enemies suprised me also, can't really remember though.

S6, Buffy telling Spike she had been in Heaven.

Probably effected me on a deeper level than anything else on the show. It was all I could think about for weeks, and I honestly think it through me into a bit of a depression. It absolutely took me by surprise. I think it's a genius moment, but one that effected me on a very alarming level.

And the only other thing that I can recall right now is S5 of Angel when Fred is singing "you are my sunshine" to Wes, and Lorne turns around sharply just as she spits out blood. Horrifying. And completely shocking.

yes that whole Fred/Illyria deal was actually quite the shocker I remember. Especially the staircase scene when she sings

I hated when Fred died. I was waiting for Fresley since early S3 and then finally mid S5 they are together and her soul gets destroyed and body possessed. I do love Illyria though. I wanted Illyria/Drogyn after seeing them playing video games together. And then he died. And Wesley died. I still find it unnerving to know that Illyria is in Fred's body and if she sleeps with someone it will be someone having sex with Fred's body which is still kind of rape since Fred didn't choose to give up her body.

Drogyn's death shocked me first time around! and Lindsey's
I really do love Illyria though and I wasn't terribly interested in seeing Fresley happen so I thought that whole story was much more tragic bittersweet by Fred's death.

I first watched AtS and the BtVs simply because I found the Angel episodes firstly. I had spoiled a lot of things but there were times that I had to pause the video and ask:"exactly what happened just now?"

Angel's hair in s5 did not seem ugly to me...just weird. Long, way too long for him. But I have no problem with Angel...I like the guy anytime!!!

"Smashed" the ending scene. They were fighting and suddenly...Buffy was on top of him...ewwww stupid Buffyyyyy!And just when we thought she would stop...there comes the obnoxious "Gone" and Dead things! Great!

Evil Cordy killing Lilah and manipulating the Beast!

Angel coming back from Hell!

Spike getting his soul back.

Faith drugged herself in order to capture Angel. I was shocked when he bit her..."oh no!"

Pregnant Darla!

Angel choosing to be dark in s2, sleeping with Darla!!!nooooo!

Wes betraying Angel. Big shock for me.

Fred singing and spitting blood. I knew she would die already but it was just a shock...the look on Lorne's face.

Wes shooting his father. I couldn't believe it. It made me being afraid of him for a sec.

Anya's death. Too sudden.
