Ba ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!! Spuffy wasn't a relationship, lol.

I could really do without all this, I was hoping they'd move on from this boring dead discussion after what the last issue hinted at.

Spikes still being a creepy wierdo, getting that dig in there that 'normal' folk can't hack being with her, that's just more of his wedging her away bullcrap.

I enjoy Buffy mentioning that Spuffy wasn't a relationship, it always makes me smile, but at the same time I'm sick of hearing it.

Dust him or date him, just stop talking about the same conversation over and over you are killing us that are still barely holding onto these comics!

Being a "creepy weirdo" What by showing her his support and standing by her?

Being a "creepy weirdo" What by showing her his support and standing by her?

He isn't doing that in these panels, like not even a little bit.

He's telling her she can't have a relationship with a normal person.

What does he know? She's never had a relationship with a normal person, the closest was Riley and he was a super soldier, hardly normal.

Even taking Riley as "normal" everyone seems to forget she ran after him, she wanted him, She was thrown by his marriage in season 6, trusts him above everyone else to go undercover for Twilight and currently refers to him as the greatest guy.

Buffy and Riley broke up becasue Buffy wasn't trusting him with stuff in her life, he was messed up about his place in the world post Initiative and becasue Spike meddled in order to show Riley in the worst light.

They are all really good, normal reasons to break up, they weren't tied to the fact she was the slayer, or what her life was like. So Spike should stop trying to convince her she has to be with a supernatural person, which he conveniently is. It was his go to tactic in season 6, to drag Buffy down to his level.

To be honest with you I don't think she can. 🙂

Apart from carrying too much emotional baggage from past relationships there's the whole Slayer thing which with the best will in the world can't be underplayed.

It will always make her life difficult and understandably different from those around her.

Totally disagree, I don't think the problem is that she's the slayer, the problem is that she thinks of herself as a slayer.

Season 7 was proof of that, she spent season 7 lording over everyone thinking she was the leader, she's never really been the leader, she's lead by committee and when she decided to change that the committee told her to shove it.

She's never done anything alone, all her victories are group responsible, replying on other people is what's kept her alive.

Her understanding that she actually needs to work with other people is one of her biggest flaws, one that Spike has happily exploited to wedge her away from friends.

Well sadly we'll have to agree to disagree on this as after reading some of your other posts I'm beginning to suspect that your hatred of a certain character is colouring your view on this. 🙂

I take a view as a supernatural being herself she should embrace what she is and not strive unduly to be 'normal'.

She's never done anything alone, all her victories are group responsible, replying on other people is what's kept her alive.

And vise versa. She kept them alive by being the Slayer.

Suspect away, but it's hard to argue with logic and facts 🙂

This is the same view of Buffys thats a bad view to have, assuming being supernatural makes you better. If anything Xander is the bravest of them all having no powers and still going into battle. If Buffy can have a human, normal best friend along with her, why couldn't she have a boyfriend thats the same, the logic doesn't make sense.

And vise versa. She kept them alive by being the Slayer.

Yeah I didn't say otherwise, but Buffy only seems to remember the her saving them part, while forgetting the amount they've done for her.

I wish I could agree more, but I'm at my maximum agreement level!

.

No offense, but it would seem quite the opposite, after looking at your name, without even having to read any of your other posts, I would say your love of a certain character is colouring your view on this.

BEG argument is based on the show, logic, facts, rational deduction, and not random fanatic fan love.

No, It's based on his opinion which holds no more weight then anyones elses. 🙂

So, what, you're trying to go all Vulcan on us? That's my territory, bub, go be a Klingon or a Tribble, but the pointy eared slot is taken

😀

Buffy has been attracted to plenty of normal guys, they're actually her 'type'. 🙂

Angel and Spike are popular ships because they're interesting characters, not because they're superpowered. This Buffy can only be with somebody supernatural is nonsense and has no actual basis in the show, or the comic.

Buffy has been attracted to: Owen, Ford, Parker, Riley (before and after he was all super soldier), Ben and Xander. True, most of these didn't go anywhere but that's the nature of drama. Any one of them would've been healthier than Spike. (Well, maybe not Parker...)

Buffy has been in three relationships with supernatural people, that's it. And even then she liked Angel 'cause he was a hunk, before the whole vampire curveball. 🙂

Spike should stop pedalling the myth, its making him look desperate...more desperate that is. 😛

No it was based on fact.

The points I made where Buffy hasn't had a relationship with a normal person, so how can Spike claim she's can't have one?

I also said Buffy thought she was the leader and led by dictatorship rather than how she had for the 6 previous seasons.

The only thing that was close to just being based on opinion was saying Spike says stuff like that all the time to wedge himself between Buffy and her friends but given the horrible destructive nature of Buffy and Spike in season 6, I think it's safe to take that as fact. Spuffy in season 6 is factually destructive.

Facts as YOU see them hon. You don't speak for every fan. 🙂

Facts aren't open to interpretation, they're facts: objective... by your logic 2 + 2 may not equal 4, if the person doing the math doesn't think so, which is great for my 6 year old son, he'll never get a maths question wrong again.

Also, the 'every one opinion matters' argument is the king of 'I have no counter argument' arguments, and it's annoying. Facts are facts, and IMO some opinions are greater than others. I study English literature and I hear people spout complete tripe about poems all the time, and back it up with the 'it's my own interpretation', but at the end of the day some interpretations are more valid than others, especially if they're based on textual information and facts: which, as I said earlier, is exactly what BEG is doing in his argument.

I am open to alternate interpretations, but they should be supported by facts/textual info and not just random opinions. I

No sorry sweetie when it comes to this sort of thing it is imo. 🙂

but at the end of the day some interpretations are more valid than others

Really? And there's me thinking folks can interpret a bit of fiction any way they see fit. 😀

See again, that's picking one tiny bit of a thing I said, and disregarding the things you don't have a response for, but in answer to your criticism, they can, but it doesn't mean that they're right, especially if it goes against the Facts of the show. I could argue that Buffy was actually a transvestite under the influence of an alien from the planet Zorg, and that Spike was an undercover government operative who was covertly monitoring her to assess the potential alien threat and was also secretly working for the KGB, but that would be stupid because it's so obviously contradicted by the show, so if that was my opinion then the opinions of probably every other person on the boards, would obviously be more valid than my alien-government agent theory.

Logic? Facts? Actual bloody script? Sod it all, my feelings are more important! Yeah, this is you, OK? This sort of behavior is exactly the reason why ( Spike/Buffy ) shippers are loathed and despised.

And there's me thinking folks can interpret a bit of fiction any way they see fit.

If you cannot support your interpretation with facts in a way that makes sense then it's just worthless pseudo-intellectual masturbation that belongs in the realm of fan fiction.

My point exactly! Interpretations have to have evidence to support them, or they're just random delusions

Facts as YOU see them hon. You don't speak for every fan. 🙂

A fact isn't seen from someones point of view, it's a fact.

FACT is Buffy hasn't had a relationship with a normal person (since her main 3 boyfriends can't be considered normal).
You believe Spike is correct Buffy can't have a relationship with a normal person, thats fine thats your OPINION.
what evidence do you have to back up your opinion?
She's never had a long term normal boyfriend so you have nothing to compare it to, if Buffy has never had a normal boyfriend how can Spike say she can't date someone normal? If you agree with him, you agree with something that can't be backed up, so it's an opinion.
If I say Spike can't say that because Buffy hasn't dated a normal person, that can be backed up so it's fact.

No sorry sweetie when it comes to this sort of thing it is imo. 🙂
Is that a fact? presumably by your own (ridiculous) logic, you can't make statements like this if stuff like this is open for interpretation, so I can't say something is a fact, but you can? Hypocrite logic.

Really? And there's me thinking folks can interpret a bit of fiction any way they see fit. 😀
No, they can interoperate stuff that is open for interpretation.
Did Buffy love Spike is open for interpretation
Why was no slayer called when Buffy died in the Gift is open for interpretation
Would another Slayer have been called if Buffy died in season 7 is interpretation

By your logic, if I wanted to claim Buffy was never a slayer, just a strong human who was mistaken for a Slayer, I would have a valid opinion cuz everything is open for interpretation? No, I'd be wrong becasue it's a fact she's a slayer.

I could argue that Buffy was actually a transvestite under the influence of an alien from the planet Zorg, and that Spike was an undercover government operative who was covertly monitoring her to assess the potential alien threat and was also secretly working for the KGB,

Ah you've been reading the comics I see. 😀

But seriously we're talking about the interpretation of a fantasy relationship and complex character motivations, not math equations with one obvious answer.

Is that a fact? presumably by your own (ridiculous) logic,

Aww, thats a tad insulting isn't it?

If I say Spike can't say that because Buffy hasn't dated a normal person, that can be backed up so it's fact.

I'd say Riley (despite his brief stint at being a 'super soldier') was pretty damn normal and as far as her boyfriends go.

This sort of behavior is exactly the reason why ( Spike/Buffy ) shippers are loathed and despised.

On this board maybe. 😀

If you cannot support your interpretation with facts in a way that makes sense then it's just worthless pseudo-intellectual masturbation that belongs in the realm of fan fiction.

Oh you know how to wound a gal don't you. :lol. And on that wonderful comment I'll take my leave of you and let you get your hate on in piece. 😀

Just because it's a fantasy show doesn't mean that there aren't 'facts' within the Buffyverse, as has been reiterated by BEG, which you've conveniently repeatedly ignored.

Also: 'I'd say Riley (despite his brief stint at being a 'super soldier') was pretty damn normal and as far as her boyfriends go'

You do realise how much you've contradicted yourself here: and have actually supported your oppositions argument. Yes, Riley was normal in comparison to Angel and Spike, two, almost unique, creatures in the diegesis of Buffy, but that doesn't mean he's normal. Hell, even Clem is normal compared to Angel/Spike.

I'd say Riley (despite his brief stint at being a 'super soldier') was pretty damn normal and as far as her boyfriends go.

But that isn't factually true, you said it yourself when you had to use the word 'despite'.

He's not normal, he's "normal but..." a normal person isn't someone who worked for a secret government agency hunting demons, with improved strength and reflexes which he later loses.

Xander is normal, and she never dated someone like Xander for an extended period.
