Which Buffy/Angel book you guys think should be my first read?

I´m asking cause there are a lot of options, and I know that if I read one of them and hate it, I won´t read any other. So... I need a really great book that won´t traumatize me hehe
I´m very afraid of the books cause I have the impression the character won´t be the same and the people who wrote them made several mistakes lol Is there a better book in this aspect? Respecting the characters as they are.

I think a good starting point would be Pretty Maids All in a Row. It's a sort of prequel book, dealing with Spike and Dru a few decades ago. Of course, if you hate both of these characters, or the two of them together, better don't read it.
I think it's good to start because it doesn't really interfere with the seasosons of Buffy that we saw on TV, and although the books aren't supposed to be canon, with this one I can sort of buy that it might be canon, as it's from the past, you know?

You should read Christopher Golden's stuff. He seems to know well about the show. Not mention the fact he's a good friend of Amber Benson. 🙂
I've read 2 books of his. It's "Chaos Bleeds"(based on the BtVS: Chaos Bleeds video game) and "The Wisdom of War". The second one is kinda never-gonna-happen-on-TV because it's about creature, very big ancient creature from the sea. But the quotes in both books are great and not out of characters. If you like the game, I guess "Chaos Bleeds" is the best for you.

This one sure looks great. I love Spike and Dru, and the fact it doesn´t interfere with the show, since it´s the "past", seems refreshing lol

I heard some of the books are complete "fantasy", change the whole history like a fanfiction would do. So afraid.

The Lost Slayer, which was originally four books but is now published as an omnibus, is GREAT! It's also written by Golden.

And I might add that "Child of the hunt" and "Immortal", co-authored between Golden and Nancy Holder, was quite enjoyable too and didn't conflict with my wiew of the show. Also Golden's last book "Dark congress" was OK, but it does conflict slightly with Season 8, at least in the feel of things. Plus it should be one of the last novels to read, not the first.
