First "Real" Job...

I got my first "real" (post-college/university) job today!!!

I'm soooo psyched as I'm going to be working for a major designer of handbags and accessories 🙂

Anyone want to share first job experiences/advice?

I don't have a "post-college/university" job yet, since I haven't been to either... Yet...


But I've been in the Canadian Navy for about 4 years now, and it is seriously the greatest thing ever. I make a lot of money, to train and sail. It rocks. Plus, they are going to pay for my college schooling to become a Pilot... How awesome is that?

Haven't had a "real" job, as I've not been to uni yet. However my first job was, and still is, at Woolworths as a cashier. 16 months, crikey!

Only advice I have for you is obvious stuff. Be punctual and well dressed. But we all know you don't need that advice really. 😀😀😀 Good luck!

I've never had a post college job due to me still being studying but I did have some work on my year our working in credit card fraud which was cool as a member of the Fraud Squad 😀

I'm dreading the day I get a real job because then i'll be a proper grown up not a student!

*tear* I remember when we first sent her off to school, hair in pigtails. Our little girl is all growed up!

One word of advice. Try to avoid the office politics. They're inevitable every place a person works, and they never lead anyplace good. Be the person who nods, and walks away.

Congrats on getting all professional!

My time with a certain British Telecom company taught me that real jobs aren't for me. Turns out I far prefer playing with, and selling, computer games than attending three hour Emergency Filing Meetings. And I also like playing with the shrinkwrapper. You know it's possible to shrink wrap your own hands? Every day, I learn something new.

Seriously, way to go! All the advice here is great. One thing...don't fall in the newbie trap of trying to make suggestions on how to change everything immediately, before you suss out how things run. Best course of action might be shy, but friendly until you figure out what's the what. Smile, be charming (you can do that!) be polite and on time, and you'll do great! And leave some product for the public to buy...

Well, I just got another offer today which was way better than my first so I'm going to take it 😀

Completely agree, always try to avoid the rumour/gossip mill. To get dragged into it starts a slippery slope that may end up with you being the person gossiped about. And whatever you do, if you find out that someone has been gossiping nastily about you, get confirmation from someone else that it actually happened. Otherwise you may do I what did once and accuse someone of slagging me off behind my back. They hadn't and I had a whole chicken farms worth of eggs on my face.
