Fixing "Terminator: Dark Fate"

Youtube has been flooded with bad reviews of this latest installment of John Cameron's franchise, and it was with some trepidation that I spent my money on a ticket. After watching it, I have to agree. As Terminator movies go it didn't shine any brighter than anything else after T2. But it could be fixed, and not very much trouble. Simply change Sarah's name and drop all reference to Terminators or Skynet, both in the title and within the story like. Just call it "Dark Fate," and sell it as a straight sifi/action story. Sure, there would be a lot of people who would still call it a Terminator ripoff, but movies are ripped off all the time. Buster Crabbe played both Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers, Johnny Weissmuller played both Tarzan and Jungle Jim, Fess Parker played both Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone, and John Wayne played the same character in just about every movie he ever made. In more modern times, Stallone has played Rambo under several different names, and Schwarzenegger himself does just about the same thing.

Just make it a straight sifi/action movie and let it stand on its own rather shakey legs. It couldn't be any worse than it already is.

But it wouldn't get made. It would have no budget and even less people would go to see it. The only reason it was made in the first place was the Terminator name and the cache it still has - especially with the two returnees. In today's Hollywood the only thing that matters is IP.

Not talking about making a new movie, just re-editing the current one. It's too late now, of course, but someone connected with the movie must have seen what was going to happen. They could have fixed it before ever releasing it. Too late now, of course, but they had the chance, and muffed it.

I guess Arnie was right. They WON'T "Be back," for another one.
