Ok, I was rewatching Faith, Hope, and Trick, and I have a question. When Kakistos shows up at Faith's apartment, he uses the motel tenant to let Faith open the door, now, was that considered inviting him in? Because if not, then there was no way he would have been able to punch through the door, because in fact the barrier would be intact, although if that was such an easy way to get access into a slayers house, wouldnt every vamp be doing it?

There are a lot of vampire flaws in the show, like there are some episodes where a vampire is being choked but others like when Angel fought Darla when Darla is saying you can't choke me I don't breath remember. Or times like when Angel was fighting that vampire in the episode Kate found out he was a demon, when the guy I forgot his name basically flew up into the building or when he used super vampiric speed to take out the cops, but that type of speed and power was never really seen again on the show. Also if religion is kind of not used on the show, why exactly do crosses and holy water work on a vampire? Why not a any other religious symbols why only the Christian symbol?

Thats not actually a flaw, Faith didn't own that apartment she rented it. The Land lord owed it and he was dead so a vampire could enter.

a motel room isn't considered as someone's home. it's a public domain, so vampires can come and go as they please.
we've seen this a lot on the shows...like when Angel entered Darla's motel room.

Yeah motels are public domain but Angel can't enter into a dorm room without an invitation which is on a college campus which is also public domain. I mean granted a dorm is suppose to be private to whomever lives there, but the same should account for a motel or hotel room, it's private to whomever is living inside.

I think maybe the rules of invites get quirky when you start to consider the issue of residency. Angelus could enter the hotel room of Uncle Enyos uninvited as well.

I can't remember the specifics, but wasn't Angel able to enter the Hyperion hotel rooms in AYNOHYEB?

In these cases as with Faith's hotel room, people staying in hotel rooms aren't really considered residents.

It's interesting though, later Angel needs an invite into Fred's room at the Hyperion when she is residing there. It's no longer considered a Hotel though. It would seem that when someone is staying in a hotel room he or she is not considered a resident.

There's a good piece on the rules of invites HERE

I actually havent watched much Angel before (I know, shame on me, I will soon), but what if someone needed saving in their house, and Angel couldnt get in without an invite, how does he do it?

(I remember it happened once on Buffy, when spike was in the house with joyce, and angel couldnt get in).

there have been a number of times on Angel when Angel couldn't save someone because of the no-invite rule, Trevor Lockely immediatly springs to my mind. Angel had to stand on the other side of the threshold and watch as vampires killed him.
there has only ever been one time that Angel was able to help someone without having an invite into their home and that was Kate Lockley. Angel was able to break down her door and help her. there was mentioon made of this in the episode. Kate doesn't understand how Angel saved her, because she never invited him in. it maybe a reference to the fact that the PTB wanted to save Kate, so they waived the rule and allowed Angel to help her.

Well, then rises another question. Aren't schools public domain? So, when Angelus arrives inside the school to suprise Ms.Calender, he refers to the words outside the school, which granted him axcess in to the school. I always thought that without those words Angelus wouldn't have been able to enter the school...

Another thing I don't get is where did this invitation rule come from? I mean who created it? Did the Shadow men create it? I doubt the Powers created it as they generally like to keep out, I mean it was generally believed that the Powers created the Slayer, until we found out they didn't, so where'd that rule come from, just like the whole cross rule and holy water rule, etc, etc.

Well, I think techincally, the rules were kind of tagged on along with a whole bunch of old vampire lores and myths, I think because they're kind of mystical, that they have mysitcal rules attatched to them.

Don't know, the only thing I would say is that that was a mistake, cuz otherwise Vamps wouldn't be able to enter any building ever. Or that Hotels are some kina loop hole cuz people only live in them for a short period of time and keep moving around!

I don't think the rules were created they just... were. Like no one decided they couldn't enter houses they just couldn't!

I just think just like with slayer powers vampire powers are kind of inconsistant too, I mean we never saw a vampire move at the speed it did in Sommablist or whatever the episode was called when the vampire came after Kate at the police department. And again I dont' believe we've seen a vampire basically fly into a building like we've seen him do again. That was like the ONLY episode in the whole series of Buffy and Angel that we've seen a vampire do such things. Also how high can a vampire jump? Cause I'm just remember Season Four of Angel when he jumped that VERY high distance to get away from the Beast when he was Angelus
