Flies?

Is it just me or has there been an increase in flies this year? We seem to have been plagued by them this year - although out in our garden right now there must be at least 20+ dragonflies flying around!

Our local council has gone to collecting rubbish bins only once every 2 weeks, and I reckon that's why we have more flies this year, as the rubbish is lying around for longer. They just seem to be everywhere!

Oh, and one thing that's really been bugging me about flies - why, when they come into your house, do the smaller ones fly under the lights in the middle of the room? You know what I mean, they just fly in zig-zaggy circles continuosly under the lights. Doesn't matter if the light is on or off, they still fly round and round underneath it regardless.

I know it's just something little but it bugs me so much, I mean, if the light wasn't in the centre of the room, would they still fly under it - are they attracted by the electric?

Stupid, and yeah, probably pointless but I've always wondered why they do it?!

I think its probably the heat and light they are attracted to. And the heat after the light has been on.

I havent seen more than usual. But I live in the city and you dont see to many here (not sure why but not complaining 😛)

Yup, I think there are a lot more flies around at the moment at Pointy Towers. I'm guessing it's the heatwave. We've also just entered the season for those little black things my Mum calls "thunderflies" which can be very annoying when several hundred decide to land on you 🙂

As for insects and lightbulbs...it's my understanding that they use the Moon for navigation or something like that and that they are confused by artificial light sources...hence they are attracted to them, thinking that the bulbs are the Moon...although that is not known for definite...

See, that I can understand, the attraction to light...but what about when the light isn't and hasn't been on? Perhaps they still get fooled by the shiny white bulbs regardless of whether they are on or off! 'lol'

Oh, and 'thunderflies', they get everywhere, especially if you wear white or yellow etc, there also seems to be an increase in thse 'midges' too, you know those tiny little straight looking things that make you itch & feel riffy!

Oh a plus, I have noticed alot less wasps in our area this year, so that's good! 😀

I get moths in my room alot! i killed at least three mosess! and flies well lets just say at work they have been known to mate on the tiles! *yuk*
(now we have a door that keeps em out!)
