Folk/Traditional Irish/English Songs

Recently I've realized "Greensleeves" is like in my top ten favorite songs ever, and for traditional ones it's by far my favorite.

Can any of you recommend me similar songs? Like similar mood and style.

Spike's trigger song is a nice one. Called "Early one morning" I think - it's a long time since I sung it in school. "Scarborough Fair" is another good one.

You could do worse than listen to English folkies Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention, Martin Carthy (and the rest of his family - he's a nice bloke. I met him at a festival once - he was the only one there with a radio so we could find out an important cricket score.)

Awwww...are you Irish? I have Irish and German and Indian and Spaniard blood...so I got all kinds of songs...but I love being Irish best... 😉

There was a German song I used to sing...I hope I spell this right...Gutenoct? Ah hell, it's a lullaby...I sang it for a choir competition...it was a duet...I LOVED it!

I agree, out of all my nationalities, Irish is my favorite. I dont know any Irish songs, but hopefully I'll hear some when I got to Ireland this summer.

I'm not Irish Rayne, but I've sometimes wished I was...

Anyway, back on topic, Legend has it that Greensleeves was written by King Henry VIII - who was not the boorish oaf and serial husband of popular myth but a well-educated and cultured man apparently...actually, it's fairly well documented that he was a serial husband (six wives and all that 🙂)
