Fondest BB Memories

In celebration of ten years of Buffy fandom let's share some of our fondest Buffy Boards memories. Have any of the threads made you laugh so hard you cried? Has something truly meaningful come out of the discussions you've had on the boards? Let us know about it; share a story or two about some of your most memorable times here. 🙂

Finding a place where I truly felt like I fit in is the best, and biggest memory I have.

Oh goodness. Well, I met my best friend and my girlfriend. Both of whom mean the world to me. So those are fond memories... And I've had TONS of fun memories in VH. Sharing my thoughts, my feelings... I think the most notable of which was the big Veronica Mars watch we did last year. Oh that was fun. And it gave me one of my favorite shows. Also, the first time [MENTION=7924]InsaneMystic[/MENTION] called me "brain twin" is a highlight. Oh and being prefect. Totally highlight. Mainly it's the fun I've had with the people I've met here. I mean long late night skype calls with 10-15 people, chats on twitter, tumblr, and facebook. These things didn't happen on BB, but they were with BBers. And they will always bring me fond feelings of BB when I look back at them.

My fondest memory has to have been the picture that Old Master posted of IT, which considering how much it terrified me seems a bit strange, but it did then become a running joke and me and Faith didn't let him live it down 🙂

I also loved the April Fools joke we did one year in which we made the members think that Darla and Faith had fell out and that Faith had been banned from the boards 🙂

One of my best BB moments is when I got sorted in to VH and everybody had read my check in thread and started calling me my name before I even had introduced myself. They were like "hi mikaela! So glad to have you here!" It was so sweet and thoughtful :heart:

I have a few... I can't pick just one.

1.) One Saturday morning I woke up in a fantastic mood. I was feeling and looking great and it was a rare Saturday where I had woken up with no hangover and no work. I signed on to the old IRC to pass some time around 9am and there was a great crew of people on from all over the world. Scotland, Australia, America, New Zealand, England and Singapore. [MENTION=8158]Revolver[/MENTION] and I got chatting about The Beatles and held an hour and a half conversation purely in The Beatles lyrics. I cracked open some drinks and time just ran away from me. It got to 6pm and my fiancé came home to find me 6 beers down and in hysterics and unable to wipe the grin from my face.

2.) Meeting [MENTION=7738]OccaQuokka[/MENTION]. I don't think there are to many people around the boards that have actually gone through with a meet up, but Gem and I have. The first time I met her I remember vividly, sitting at a park across the road from my work and chatting the afternoon away. I've seen her half a dozen times since, including at a Supernova where we met James Marsters and Amy Acker. Every single time she has blown me away with her resilience, kindness and easy going attitude.

3.) Drogyn = Villains. Things had been quiet for awhile around Drogyn but this was pure genius. I feel like this decision was just perfect for where we were at the time with some of our members. [MENTION=8252]Scobro[/MENTION] [MENTION=8158]Revolver[/MENTION] in particular! I wish Drogyn could have stayed the same forever.

4.) Drogyn Christmas in July (the original, accept no substitute). One of my fondest memories of Drogyn. Everything about it was perfect. All the christmas banners that we made were simply hysterical (I will never forget the 'pea soup' vomit award for Revolver). The vibe was fantastic and we partied for basically 24 hours straight.

Awww, I'm happy that I figure into one of your BB highlight moments! 😀

And as for more brain twinnage... I'm another one to say "found my shipmate here" is pretty much on the top of my list. (I :heart: Shempy.) Keeping up the love dorm rep of VH, right? 😉

I have a few. Actually, I probably have hundreds, but these are what come to mind immediately.

1) Lyri. I met my best friend here, and I can't help thinking it was supposed to happen because Lyri and I really should have never met, for about a thousand different reasons. Meeting her kind of changed my whole world and made it better. If BB never gave me another good memory other than that, then it would still be the best board I'd ever been on.

(Sidenote: Lyr and I are totally meeting up in a couple of weeks too! It bloody too us long enough 😉)

2) White Avenger. When I came to BB I had no idea there was nasty Spuffy vs. Bangel rivalry. I really had zero clue. Thanks to WA I remained oblivious for a long time after that because we only ever had fun ribbing each other and our ships. Even now, while the Spuffy/Bangel thing can get really cutting, I know that in a thread with WA all we will ever do is tease each other. That is a really amazing thing in my book, because it just doesn't happen anywhere else. The crazy old fart helps keep my fandom alive, and that ain't no small thing. 😀 😛

3) Being asked mod/working with the staff. It was a long time ago now, but being asked to be a mod on this board was an unbelievable moment for me. I was only here a month and I loved BB. But then actually working with Darla, Faith, Pointy, Nerd4Hire, OMIII and all the mods was just...amazing. Some of my best moments on this board happened in the mod threads, or in mod chats or YIM conversations that go on for days. That first year or so was a really wonderful time for me.

4) Running the Buffies. Oh God, it was so EXHAUSTING! The work that goes into the whole thing is massive, but it is so much fun, especially the backstage chat lol I think I sent palabravampiress out to present the award she was supposed to get, and there was something about Faith and her harem of Lindseys? LMAO! Then there was Darla chasing Bangelxx with her stiletto because she wouldn't stop posting! But my favourite moment was when BEG rode into the after party on the Anya!Donkey. I honest to God thought I'd never stop laughing.

5) Merrick. I think almost everyone who was in the house back then is gone (which kind of makes me want to cry) but we used to have the best time in there. There was stage when we were going through two Common Rooms a week and eventually had to go to messenger service cuz we were so active. I think it was that period that we can up with the FURRY PUPPY COWS! lol We had the murder mystery which was AMAZING. I don't know if we ever had so much fun as a house, with Faith killing us all 😛 Merrick is still my favourite place on BB and we have the best time, but I sometimes I really miss all the old gang.

6) The shoutbox. I'd say there is only a handful of us still here that remember this but it was the best way to just chat to people on BB. You'd sign on and say hello and next thing you know your talking about Godknowswhat with someone you don't really get that much of a chance to interact with on the board proper.

7) All the offsite fun, I think Zobo mentioned how some of her best BB moments happened offsite but with BB people. I'd like to second that. I have this whole network of friendships that were made because of this site.

This place is pretty much a big deal.

Well, I've only been here almost a year, but I do have a few memorable moments:

1. I was addicted to this place before I even joined. Once I found it, I kept reading through threads, but had to 'wait 30 seconds' before reading more. I finally got so frustrated (and I was all crying after watching "Becoming") that I signed up!

2. Posting in my first thread was nerve-racking for me. Is it the right place? What if people don't want me butting in? What if I get called an idiot? Well, 900+ posts later, no one has called me an idiot. Yet. 😉

3. Finally figuring out what a dorm was (some of the members' sigs were very sconfusing to me!) and getting sorted to VH. It's a little comfy home away from the main boards and is just fun! I LOVE the people in there!

4. Discovering the chat and the people in it. I have now spent countless hours in there and have an app on my iPhone that I can use to get in there. I have made wonderful friends and the "regular crew" in there is just fun to banter with. C'mon in people, it's fun!

Oh wow, there are so many great BB memories... Where do I begin??

1. Getting featured in the newsletter when I got my Prophecy Girl Buffy doll. 🙂 I had only been here about a month, or maybe less and I felt so special to already be featured in the newsletter. It made me feel like I really did belong here. 🙂

2. Learning how to make fanart. [MENTION=6332]Lyri[/MENTION] and [MENTION=6351]Angelic Slayer[/MENTION] are the two people I truly credit with helping me to get better and learn better techniques for my art. When I first came, I would look at their art and think "Dude, I could never make art like that." I started asking questions and luckily they were kind enough to answer and help me. 🙂

3. Becoming a member of Merrick. I know I'm in VH now, but once upon a time I was in Merrick, and while I left on bad terms, I did have some great times with some wonderful people in there. 🙂

4. Being sorted into VH.... VH immediately felt like home. I know it helped that by the time I was sorted into VH, I'd been here for a while and already knew everyone but it was like a warm hug everytime I went in there. And being prefect? That was truly amazing and SO much fun! I loved planning events with my house and doing things together... Lately the dorm feels like it's changed, but I'm hoping we can get that back this year. *HUGS*

5. Winning the Goldenboy Award at last year's Buffies. I was sooo honored to feel like the staff felt like I represented everything good about BB. 🙂 It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. 😀

6. Being asked to be on staff. I absolutely love working with Darla, OM, BEG, and all the rest of the amazing mods. We have sooo much fun working together on the boards and behind the scenes. Love you guys!!

7. Celebrating the 10th birthday of BB!! It sounds really silly, but it makes me feel excited, drinking out of the birthday mug I bought from the BB store and feeling awesome for having been here for the past 3 1/2 years. 🙂

OK Where to start...

The friendships I have made over the years and the people I have met...and the people I have yet to meet.

Finding somewhere that is safe to talk about my fav shows and read other peoples perspectives on the show. I've been on forums before and just not liked it.

Getting the PM asking if I would like to be a mod...wow I was blown away to have been noticed let alone being asked to join the team. Had some great times on the team and some tuff ones but all in all it was a great experience and I highly recommend if you ever get that PM say yes! It's great fun.

Sharing my pregnancy etc with BB and being able to show off my little darling and her winning the lil pumpkin bellie award. I was so chuffed.

The houses, Raiden - making long term friends and being prefect. Moving to Merrick and being welcomed into their madness!

Making it (almost - on the 6th) to 10 years on BB and being able to celebrate BB's 10 year party 😀

There are many more and lots of names I'd like to mention but I won't bore you anymore lol

Oh I forgot one... Being MOTM in VH my second full month here. It was like, I had a half month, then a full month, then I come to the boards and I'm VH MOTM. It was an indescribable feeling. I mean, to know that the majority of people thought of me... without being prompted to in any way... as someone who exemplified what VH means for that month... I died. I was so happy. I was jumping around my room screaming and yelling. And went into my sisters' room and was like "YOU GUYS!! I WON MEMBER OF THE MONTH!!!!" And they just looked at me blankly. I wore that banner around on other sites because I was so proud of it. I love VH.

A very found memory was when I was made prefect for VH this thursday. 😀 But that's not really a memory yet since it happened so recently. 😀

I'm a noobie so I guess my fondest memories are just everyone being really friendly and welcoming me to the boards (and then to the Merrick dorm), and getting to know people by chatting with them in chat!!

Even though the boards are so active that it's hard to get involved in some threads (because I have a tendency to want to read EVERYTHING everyone has said 😛), and the chat gets goin a mile a minute sometimes as well. I'm still adjusting and trying to keep up! 😀

I think I would also have to go with what many others have said. Making great new friends. I could stay in the chat from early in the night, then stay up till about 5 or 6 in the morning just joking around. Also, my time in Drogyn has been ace.The first few parties that I went to make me strive to be like a few of the other members in my dorm. My whole time on BB has been enjoyable. I will never regret the day I joined this site. 🙂

Oh I have lots.

There was the time that we did the re-read of season 8 in preparation for the release of season 9. Once [MENTION=10354]VisionGirl[/MENTION] and I typed up our responses at the same time and once we hit enter realized that the other person had done it at the same time. And we had said a lot of the same things.

Being asked to be a mod and doing the mod thing has been totally awesome. I didn't expect to be asked ever. It had never even crossed my mind, since this is the first forum I've been active in. But it's been awesome.

And this place is a huge inspiration for my Buffy fan art. I'm always so excited to post something new in my art thread because you guys are always so nice and encouraging about my arts. 😀

Well, just a few short months after I joined BB, I won the MoTM award 2 months in a row! So that was definitely a very fond moment. 😱

Some other fond moments include when I joined the J4 Radio Show and made some good friends who has made my experience on BB way better than I ever expected when I first joined. Really, my whole experience on BB has been a fond memory, it's like a home away from home. 🙂

I wanted to add about my interview on the BBradio. I was so nervous because I'm a terribly shy person.

But it was totally fun and everyone was awesomely nice. Definitely a highlight. 😀

My fondest memories were when a group of us really frequented the general discussion board right after Buffy left. Ana8, Maggui, BillieHunter, Blake, Killerdwarf, Jenny, The Male Slayer... I think Lyri was in there somewhere, too. I realize most of the people I named above have moved on, but I still think fondly of them...especially Killerdwarf.
