Ok the idea for this thread has been rolling around in what passes for my brain for the past couple of weeks, and after the thumbs up from a couple of bb members I have decided to go ahead with it...I did say I was gonna wait until my thoughts were inorder but what are the chances of that happening? lol.

Ive been thinking about why I love SK so much and to me its kinda the same reason I love buffy. Its never about the big bad, thats always just metaphor and symbloism for something deeper, its about the characters and what they are going through. I also love the way that as with the Buffyverse the Kingverse is so elaborate, and links up in so many different ways. The way old characters or events get referenced or pop up again, the way its all connected and has that giant epic feel to it, I just love that, what do you guys think?

I notice that alot of people on the board either read or at least have seen SK movies so I thought it would be fun to discuss. So if you wanna just discuss all things King in general or anything or anyone related like Peter Straub, Clive Barker and ofcourse his son Joe Hill, Im all ears!.

Yes, I love my Stephen King. I guess for similar reasons to why I love Buffy as well.
I think it's fantastic when something so "popular" gets criticism for being to popular but is actually quite amazing if you look past the fact that lots of people like it.
The Shining is amazing - everytime I read it I read it differently.
Currently re-reading Salems Lot. I love how Stephen King creates his own type of Vampire. Love the book.
My favourite thing about Stephen King books? He creates the most amazing, beautiful, lovable, layered characters I have every come across in a work of fiction. Just amazing. I love that everything he writes and creates has shades of grey.
Just love him, plain love him.
My boyfriend and I are thinking about going on holiday next year to Canada and we're thinking about going to Maine just cause I want to explore it because of Stephen King!

I find Stephen King to be very hit and miss to extremes, and I think that is because I have high expectations.

I cannot read one of his books and think it is 'ok', if a Stephen King book is 'ok' to me, that means it is crap.

The first book I ever read of his was The Stand, my all time favourite King novel. It is just excellent.
The Shining, Misery, The Green Mile and Tommyknockers are so wonderful that if his work doesn't live up to those standards, I don't like them.

Most hated? Pet Sematary! Horrible! And I wasn't a huge fan of Cujo either. That era when he was depressed was just not good for his writing. I heard that one of the books he wrote he doesn't even remember writing cause he was so wired on drugs. Anyone happen to know what it is?

You might be interested in the comic adaptation Marvel Comics is doing on The Stand. It is in the same manner that they are doing for The Dark Tower.

Issue #1 of The Stand: Captain Trips (6 issues) just came out.

i love SK he is the best writer. my favorite book that ive read of his so far has to IT. it was so scary and totaly love that he took my fear of clows and turned it in to a book(i know clows?*hangs head in shame*) its not really that im afaid of them i just dont like them. i also saw the movie it was perfectly made the same way i pictured it in my head.

Oh the shame. I´ve only read one SK book in my life. I don´t know how this happened. In my teens I was dead set to get a big SK collection and start reading. Yet it never happened. Which book? Somehow it ended up being "The Eyes of the Dragon".


Haven´t seen that many of the films/series either. But funny thing is that Shawshank redemption is my all time favourite movie and I really love The green mile. So I do have a little SK love at least.

who else thinks that misery is a cocky piece of literature? but really good though he always gives his characters such a depth, with such a wide range of emotions.

last i read was actually cell, it explores some interesting subjects like thos 90% or sumthing of our brain that us, humans dont use, and it has an originall post apocalyptuc scenario even though it may seem in the beggining that its just another zombie horror story

I am sooooo excited for this thread. I have read most of Stephen Kings work and I was recently introduced to the Dark Tower series. I am currently on Wolves of the Calla. I have to say that this has been the hardest book to read. It is so slow. My friends tell me the payoff at the end of the book makes it totally worth it but I just want to get there. I put it down for a couple weeks and just picked it back up so hopefully it gets better. I do want to say that Rolands character is so diverse. I love him. My all time favorite SK novel would most likely be Salems Lot although I did love Hearts in Atlantis and Dream Catcher quite a bit. I also love Mysery, FireStarter, It, Pet Cemetary, and Nightmares and Dreamscapes as well.

I have a couple of female friends who are into King and one thing that they all agree on is how well he writes for women!, the way he manages to write from the female perspective is awsome!. I know it was a flop but I thought Rose Madder was fantastic! and Gerald's Game too, that book actaully scared the hell outta me!. The bit with the weird deformed guy, when he is standing in the corner playing with the bones, I could NOT get that outta my head for weeks, its a really disturbing image.

Cell was alright, but I like my "zombies" a bit more zombiefied.
Cell was essentially 28 Days Later only a bit more musical.

tbh, the first half of cell was much better , it went a little down hill at the college(or school?) but overall still good. Not as good as 28 days later though.

Yeah, I thought Cell was nothing compared to The Stand.
The Cell started really well but didn't really end up in a place I wanted it to. Also has anyone seen The Happening? It seemed to have lots of similarities to Cell but at the same time wasn't anything like it. I kept meaning to look into it, but I guess neither the Happening or Cell interested me enough!

Appparently they are making Cell into a movie, I dont know when or even if it is still happening, but the guy who did Cabin Fever is suppose to be doing it. I read an interview with him a little while back and he said that hes a massive king fan and is going to try and stay true to the book. Also the guy who directed Shawshank, Green Mile and The Mist (Frank something or other) has brought the rights to The Long Walk and is going to make that, I love that story, its one of my favourites. I hope they do it justice, its gonna be hard though.

Ok so it seems alot of you have read cell, I was just wondering what do you think of the ending? Do you think it was actually his son or was he just off his trolley in the end?.

Also I heard that they were remaking IT for tv again, but this time instead of doing it from Mike's perspective they were gonna do it from Bev's. Does anybody know if this is still happening?

I loathe the original. Poorly acted and made, but at the same time it doesn't stop me from enjoying it so I guess maybe that means it is a good movie!
I would be interested to see what could be done with IT as movie, rather than the made for TV rubbish that got made.

stephen king really is the master of horror, i havent read cell yet so should put that on my list. as for it i remember when i was a kid i first saw that on tv and it literally scared the hell out of me still kinda does to this day, i recently finished the book which was great, im not liking the idea of another tv adaption though they should just let it be. did anyone ever catch the tv adaption of the thinning or thinner i think it was called? it was great
