For Spike fans

Ahh, okay, not what I thought you were thinking! 😀

To answer that, I doubt it very much. Spike didn't think like Angelus and frankly didn't want to. Angelus went for the heart whereas Spike went for the head. Sure, he would have killed Willow, Xander and the others given half a chance but for a laugh, rather than to bother Buffy.

Nope. Spike wouldn't have gone through all that just to hurt Buffy by killing her friends. He would just have killed her and called it a day.

see? point proved!!

ok, then Arcane, what WERE you thinking?

I had a nasty feeling that all the talk about Spike hurting Buffy was going to lead towards yet another "did Spike try to rape Buffy" debate.

Just in case anyone does think of going there again... NO HE DIDN'T! 😛

nah, not getting started on this again!
that topic is over!
moving on...Angel mentions to Spike in an early ATS season 5 ep that he (Spike) seemed to get over getting his soul back a lot faster than Angel did. Anyone think there's anything to that?

Again, it's just about how different they were as people... demons... demon people... whatever!

What Angel fails to mention to Spike is that he actually "got over" his soul fairly quickly. In fact he was over it enough to be chasing Darla around for ages trying to get her back. Okay, he was having trouble biting down on new victims but he sure didn't seem to be worrying too much about what he had done up until then. Spike, on the other hand, went half mad (okay partly because of the First) with guilt.

The way it looked to me, Angel actually dealt with his guilt equally as fast as Spike. The difference was that Angel didn't have Buffy or anyone else to help get his head straight and so chose to brood. A lot!

I found him interesting from the start. Loved the snarky lines he was given and the way he delivered them. His chemistry and I don't mean sexual chemistry either was electic with all the characters. As for James , I guess he can do just about anything acting-wise.

I thought I'd posted in this topic.

I liked Angel first. I'd seen one or two episodes of Buffy(season 2) and didn't think much of the show. Spike and Dru irritated the utter crap out of me.

Angel hooked me pretty much from the first episode I saw of it. It was just dark and very atmospheric. I started watching Buffy after I saw the gift. Spike become my favourite character during Afterlife. Its just the way James Marsters delivers this "Every night I save you" line.

Angel is still a cool character, but he's no Spike.

I began to watch 'Buffy' only because of Spike. When I saw him, I really couldn't change the channel)

Well, the first time I saw Buffy was like the last few episodes back in 2003, and I immediately liked Spike because he was a sarcastic arse who likes to take the mick.

Then I watched Buffy from the beginning and I was like "Woo, Angel, yeah!" but then Spike came and I just found him cooler.

You may have to explain 'take the mick' to some of our American cousins my young friend:)
I've always liked Spike but I don't like him more than I like Angel. They are on the same level. I prefer Bangel to Spuffy, that's true, but it doesn't have anything to do with them. I think Buffy makes a nice couple with both but I truely believe that she has always been in love with Angel, and that's what makes me a Bangel shipper. I do feel Spike's pain and I'm really sorry for him, but from my point of view, Buffy belongs with Angel.

Concerning Spike himself, as I said before, I like him since the first time I saw him. School Hard isn't the best episode ever but I think it's a nice character's introduction.

In season seven he kind of bothered me sometimes because he was acting like Angel (the same way Cordelia was acting like Buffy during all the Cangel stage) but I still liked him, of course.

He's my favorite of all the characters on Buffy because of his personality, sexiness of course, and his humor.
I love him during season 4 though because he's just learning how to cope without killing anything and he finally learns he can kill demons. But I can never forget when Xander comes into the basement and Spike tells him not to look but he does anyway and we see Spike in one of Xander's "hawaiian shirts and pants." SO FUNNY!!! .lol.

I loved Spike from the minute he arrived on the show - that head turning thing with Dru is just so darn sexy! his addition to the cast lifted the show from good to truely great. I think the buffy/spike ship first occured to me after seeing fool for love - i just felt so sorry for him with the 'you're beneath me' in the ally and then he tried to be comforting to Buffy on the stairs of her house. it was just so nice.
I used to think buffy and Angel were very romantic but i've just watched season one again (which is not something i do regularly, i tend to watch the later seasons more often) and have to say i found the Buffy/Angel ship pretty unconvincing. firstly he is hardly in it and he's hardly ever useful. ok buffy finds him attractive and wears his jacket continuously in one episode and then we get to the episode 'Angel' and suddenly they are 'in love' with each other. i mean, its just so high-school! And the other thing i noticed was that Willow continually describes how romantic the Buffy/Angel thing is and this actually positions the audience to accept this view even though there is actually very little evidence to support this 'great romance'. I have to also admit to a certain 'ick' factor that i'd never felt for Bangle before. She's only sixteen and the age gap thing is really obvious. The age thing never really bothered me with spike, but buffy and angel seen very 'Lolita' if you get my drift. I like angel, i love him when he moves to LA - i just don't get the whole bangle 'ours is a forever love'. I'm not saying that Buffy should end up with Spike either. I really enjoyed the Buffy/spike relationship a lot because it was forever changing - i mean they move from being enemies to allies, they become friends and lovers and trusted confidant. By the end of season 7 they had a really great relationship, sort of like scully and mulder before the x-files went crappy. I'd like to see that continue.

What can I say, Tranquillity stole the words out of my mouth *grins* I think we really do share very common perceptions!

Though my story of watching BtVS and specifically of liking Spike is a complete mess due to circomstances as well as my impatience lol. I first saw Buffy while i was at High School and I so much more preferred Roswell. I disliked all the Buffy characters, including Spike. Probably because I watched it in German...Several months ago our TV aired Buffy and I got caught. Angel seemed to me good-looking but way tooo old for Buffy and I found them an unconvincing couple.

What got my interest on Spike was a preview of season five where Joss hinted about the love/hate future relationship of spuffy. They showed a scene where Spike was watching the dancing Buffy. They radiated so much sexual energy and beast-"pray" look that I thought: "OMG, I want to see how it will turn into a passion and love!"

But the moment which nailed me to Spike was the episode "Fool for love" *sighs*. I am so much into multi-dimentional characters...

From there on, i did a week marathon of watching episodes from season 6 to 5 to 7 to 4, etc, youtube watching of interviews and now my memories are a bit chaotic lol i hate being obsessed 🙁

You guys say all i want to say... the first time i saw him was in 'Angel' 'cause i watched all angel's seasons first and he was my second favourite character. But then, when i saw him in 'Buffy'...!!! omg.. He's so cute! Probably when he started to fall in love with Buffy... there's when he became my favourite character!!

I really love 'Buffy and Spike'... the last episode was great but.. i wished they had stayed together. :'(

I didn't really start watching Buffy until early in Season 5, so I had no preconceived ideas about the Buffy/Angel mix. By the time I started watching regularly, and started catching the syndicated earlier seasons on FX, I started wondering who the big lump was who was hanging around who I thought of as "Spike's Girl." She's been "Spike's girl" to me ever since, and Spike has always been "Buffy's Guy." I'm happy with things that way, and I see no reason to change my opinion.

i loved spike the first moment i saw him which was the first time he was on Buffy and i instantly loved him i mean he is super hott and the adorable British accent is a perfect touch. i also loved angel the moment i first saw him too he is also very hott and his jealousy was very cute lol. i think angel was Buffy's perfect "first love" the relationship was very cute and mushy lol but i think spike is Buffy's "true love" their relationship was full of passion in my opinion. so i love spike and buffy together my then angel and Buffy together. oh and the first time i started to like the idea of spuffy was in " Fool for Love"

I can't tell you when I became a Spuffy fan, although I do prefer them to Bangel.

That said, I CAN pinpoint the exact moment during which I realized that I was a Spike fan. I have writer lust for him. I wish I had invented the character. I fell in love with him as a character during the episode that begins with him having sex with the Buffybot and ends with him keeping his mouth shut about Dawn even though Glory tortures him. Both actions -- one utterly reprehensible and one incredibly noble -- are perfectly within character. He's so complex!

I always say Giles is my favorite b/c I have a huge crush on him. lol. Then I say Anya and Spike tie for second. I say that because they are just great characters. The fantasy genre was invented for just this sort of thing. These characters can really explore humanity in a meaningful way because they stretch the normal limits of humanity. They are both beautifully written!

I secretly always liked Spike before that. I loved Spike with Dru. I loved him as the wacky, impotent evil guy. I loved him as the savior of the world. But I didn't realize it until that moment.

Perhaps inevitably, I was a Spuffy fan after I realized how awesome Spike is as a character. That relationship had more depth. It meant more. Bangel, well, that was stereotypical and romantic puppy-love. I'll take the messy, real deal over the pretty ideal any day.

Something blue was my favorite too.
The sparks that played off one another was great. Even telling her the whole thing would be off if she wore 'That skirt'!. Great comedy, but letting you 'see' them as a couple made me wonder why it took Joss so long to do it

Yeah, something blue got me thinking "hey, that could be FUN", but I didn't think the writers would go there because they seemed to want to keep Buffy pretty noble. So I was pleased when they fed me what I was hungry for.

I've admitted this before... I used to not be into Spuffy... yes I was pretty much a full on Bangel during the show's first run. While Spuffy was happening I tolerated it, I didn't have loathing for it or anything but I always yearned for Angel to come back... I wanted Buffy and Angel together. But then when I watched the show a 2nd, 3rd... 60th time, lol... I went through the same personal growth that Buffy did... or thats how I like to think of it :silly: Upon repeated viewings I let go of that idealized first love fantasy and really allowed myself to appreciate the great journey Spuffy went through to get that beautiful fiery hand holding in Chosen. So my Spuffy love happened very gradually, but there is NO turning back now! 🙂
