So I am on one of my many btvs rewatches and I think I've said it a million times here how important btvs is to me and how passionate I am about the series, tho some might say obsessed!

I had a passing thought earlier about writing my passions down. I so love this buffyverse but I rarely am able to really share that with anyone aside from my Buffy boards times. My husband doesn't get it, my kids are too little, and I've only ever successfully gotten one person to watch the show but they aren't around anymore.

So the more I've thought about it the more I think I'm really interested in starting a blog to channel some of the fiery love and passion I have into words, but I have not the first clue in how to start such a thing.

Can anyone give me a good starting place or pointers/suggestions? Honestly I'm not even worried about whether or not I'll ever obtain an audience, as this project would be heavily fueled for my own satisfaction.
 
Yeah I need to get up and running with the whole blog thing. I started one a few years ago but was a bit lost and was starting UNI at the time. I think Wordpress is normally very relieable.

Sure it's relieable but you also have to purchase a domain name, which is generally $9-$15 dollars, and pay for wordpress hosting which is $5 a month. If the OP is wanting to do something 'for fun' Blogger is the best bet. Plus its much easier to set-up and maintain. I had to update and monitor my WP site daily, and it was hacked twice because I was only getting the 'free' security- I didnt want to pay another $3 a month for the enhanced security.

Wordpress is relieable if you have the time and money to invest in it. For hobbies, Blogger is the way to go.

I've been using livejournal for nearly ten years. Very reliable, simple format. Also many active buffyverse communities 🙂

I still have mine and fandom on there has quieted down a hell of a lot compared to years back, but It's still worth it imo.
 
I want to try LiveJoural but don't know much about it, also they charge £24. I think I will sign up one day but will have to wait until I have a bit of money.
 
The reason I say Blogger over LJ is Blogger is more SEO friendly and it's integrated seamlessly with Google Adsense to monetize your blog. I net about $100 a month. It's not much but I do zero effort. I go on fiverr and pay someone $20 to write blog posts, and then I make anywhere from $80 - $150 off ad revenue. If I took time I am sure I could make more but I have trouble- or have had trouble- making quota.
 
Yes well imo LJ is more intimate and about getting to know other fans, rather then trying to make money or build any kind of writing career out of it.

I've made a good few friends on there which I've gone onto meet in real life and stayed in contact with for many, many years. 🙂

I'd say blogger, just because SEO and they are tied directly into Google search.

You can create static HTML pages to your BlogSpot blogs which helps both website live visitors as well as crawl bots.

Also, in relation to ease of use, the Google Toolbar has a feature called "BlogThis!" which allows toolbar users with Blogger accounts to post links directly to their blogs. And "Blogger for Word" is an add-in for Microsoft Word which allows users to save a Microsoft Word document directly to their Blogger blog, as well as edit their posts both on- and offline.
 
@Mr. Pole , after much consideration I have decided to give Blogger a try.

For everyone else, ideas as to what I could blog about Buffy about? I was thinking episode reviews, but I'm looking for something different, that hasn't been done before.

On the other hand, maybe I won't just limit myself to Buffy/Angel/Whedonverse media... a TV/movie review site, perhaps?

Suggestions?

Thats the thing I think you would like with Blogger.. if you DO go to expand, there are so many ways you can take it versus some of the other options.
There are various blogging platforms available and you have to decide whether you want to retain ownership of the content or cede it to the blog hosting company. There are a number of both paid and free platforms but you should check about how much you have to do - some require you to be the administrator performing similar functions to an internet forum moderator with regard to setting up and maintaining the site. Some offer search engine optimization (SEO) and the ability to obtain an income from running ads on your blog. Some hosting sites make data available on number of views etc. which may be essential if you want advertisers.

If you want to develop a following as a blogger, you have to be consistent. If you update your blog every Friday night, don't skip a week (without warning the readers) and there are means to put up content on a regularly scheduled basis even if you are not there such as http://meetedgar.com/. And once a week is the absolute minimum I would consider. Daily blogging may force you to run out of material. so twice a week at the same time every week is what I would recommend.

You may not be coming out with a book anytime soon (or ever) but the tips above are reasonable.

My suggestion is it doesnt matter. Everything has been done before already. There is nothing new that you can do. The thing that will set you apart is how you go about doing it. How well your writing is, what facts you know, etc.

With that in mind I would stick to the shows you know inside and out so that your passion can shine through the text. Then work on expanding. But find a niche to target, and get a hook. Get a style that is yours... because everything under the sun has been reviewed already.
