Ok, so I was watching Tru Calling last night and Davis was talking about that fact that for every force in the world, theres an equal and opposite force.
Like Tru and Jack
.

So it got me thinking. Do you think its possibly Buffy could have an opposite. Someone as powerful and strong as a slayer. But completely evil where she is good? As far as I can tell, the Slayer power is a force. So going by this, there should definatelly be one. And I dont think the first would count cos evil yes, but not as strong and powerful what with being incorporeal and such.
 
Faith is the first person that came to mind here....except in the end she ended up repenting and becoming good again so that kinda throws that idea out the window.
 
Yeah, I wouldnt consider Faith the opposite. She is technically the Slayer. I meant whos the opposite of the Slayer, not necessarily Buffy in particular.
 
Although you said the first doesnt really count I think that ulimate evil is the oposite of the slayer.

Whistler in a way, who had to keep the balance is like the middle ground between the first who wants destruction and the slayers who wants to stop the destruction.

And the big bads are kind of the opposing force to the slayer. Although there hasnt really been a single force (except for the first evil) that has been the anti-slayer.
 
I don't really think so just because that mixing two mythologies from the series, but Caleb was Buffy's exact opposite, both were strong, She was female He was Male, She fights for good, Him for Evil, Her power is about empowering women his is about oppressing women!
 
Im not mixing mythologies. Just cos it was used in Tru Calling doesnt make it a myth. The opposing force is Newtons third law of motion. So if it can be applied to a show like Tru Calling, why not Buffy?

And Caleb wasnt her equal. He was only strong enough to beat her with his strength combined with the First.
 
Actually, something like this idea came up in the Buffy S4 episode "Superstar", where Jonathon casts a self-augmentation spell to make himself the best, but ends up creating an evil counterpart in the process.
 
Cool. Interesting idea.

I actually had a fanfic idea about making a sort of slayer-of-slayers, where, in the vampire world, there's a vamp girl who is sort of destined to take on the slayer. Lol, just was an idea.

There was sort of a Slayer of Slayers with Diana, a kinda Ancient Roman vamp, in one of the books.
 
I would argue that all the big bads fall into that category, The Master, Angelus, Spike, Adam, Glory. Although, one can also argue (like wolf did in the original post) that none of these are her equal because in the end, she bested them all, using help from her friends - but that's what made her the "special" slayer. But, then again, if the hero of the show fails all the time, the show itself will fail (unless your Maxwell Smart)...

All good stories have some elements of this set up - hero vs. antigonist, it's what makes good drama. If the sides are lopside or so stacked in one sides favor - it's either boring or painful to watch.

But the difference is, if she didnt have the power of the demon, she wouldnt be slayer, just a normal girl. Whereas the First didnt make Caleb. He was already super strong but still couldnt beat her til combined with the first. It took the both. To be that strong and powerful.

Not at all, nowhere does it state that Caleb was already super Human. He was used by the First because he had shown 'potential'. The First time we see them join isnt the first time they DO join, i'm not gonna trawl through eps for the lines to prove it, but the evidence is there.
Without the First Caleb would just have been a lost Preacher.
 
I thought that the whole reason for slayers was that they were the opposite of vampires, the only difference being that the vamps are obviously dead, and evil and slayers are alive and work for good?cos both of them have demon in them to keep them strong.Just a thought.But what DiaDeLaMuerte said is Correct, Caleb was not a superhuman, the first gave him it's powers or essence so he could be strong and powerfull.
 
I would agree with the big bads. They are a slayer's equal, even if they all lost to buffy. But Spike for example killed 2 slayers in his time, and that's not even very long. I don't remember if and how many slayers the master killed, but probably he did at some point.
 
I would say that yes, there is an opposite force against any Slayer. Obviously the force against a slayer is evil itself. Whether it takes the form of a vampire, demon, whatever. Just evil.
