So what is everyones favorite foreign films.. I thought it would be interesting posting it on this forum as this forum has many members from all over the world so it will be interesting to find out what you all like?

Some of my fav Foreign Films are 'Life is Beautiful', an italian film.. its really good! And 'Amélie' .. a really great french film!
 
In forgeign film... what do you mean.. non-Australian? Non-american?

Anyway... For French films we have a pretty good movie industry has in French make A LOT of movies.. but... most of them are quite bad.. lol
Amélie Poulain course seem to be everyone's first thought as a French movie.. I like it so I can't say it's a bad thing.
Other there is the more recent Les Choristes (The Chorus) which is really good and a classic, Le Grand Blue (apnea and deep see diving) and also Léon (The Professional).
I'll get back on foreign non-american movie cause some are sooooo great but i need to find the references :silly:
 
Um yeah, I guess I have seen quite many "foreign films", seeing as I'm not from the US. Most Swedish films aren't that great though, but there are a few awesome ones, but they probably wouldn't be that great for non-Swedes.. 'Cause there are a lot of Swedish inside jokes, heh. Like Smala Sussie.. or Tillsammans ("Together" ?)..

But yeah, other than that, I loove Amélie, and well, a lot of other French films (though I have to say I've seen a lot of crappy ones too.. heh..)

But yeah, being not from the US, it's like to difficult to say what my favourite foreign film is.. Even though I have seen a lot more American films that "foreign" ones..
 
There is only really one foreign film that I enjoyed and it was Les Choristes, it was amazing and I really enjoyed it 🙂 I also liked Taxi (French version) that was pretty entertaining 🙂
 
I'm really not a fan of foreign films, just cuz I hate having to read the subtitles while watching. lol.
 
I don't mind reading subtitles because I like closed captioning.

One I recommend is La Femme Nikita. I heard the American remake, Point of No Return, suck, so best to stick with the original french version. It's a pre-Alias thing. Girl is sentenced to death for killing a cop, but her death is faked and she is forced to work as a spy. She falls for her handler and must deal with the horrible things she must do. Don't bother selecting the dub option, because the American voice-overs are really awkward.

I'm assuming by Foreign Film you mean Film thats not in English.

Taxi is a good film, i liked that.
Also, Run Lola, Run, i thought was amusing.
I have to admit a liking for Bollywood Epics movies, love the colourfulness.
Crouching Tiger too, gotta love that film.

BUT my all time fave Foreign Film is one i saw a few years ago, its a French Film called La Haine....marvellous

Yeah, for some reason i like to watch all my movies with Subtitles, i even do it with my TV shows, it subtitles are an option, i'll pick choose it, so a subtitled movie is ok with me....

Though never ever ever pick a dubbed film, its just too annoying.
 
Das Boot was superb. Hero with Jet Li was good as well, very colourful and graceful.

You lazy English speakers, we always had to do that when we were kids, heh.

But I do agree, I mean you can love a film even though you don't understand what they're actually saying, but it takes away the beauty of great dialogue.. which is what I usually love about films/TV shows, that's why I mostly see films in English too..

lol, Yeah I have no problem saying I'm a lazy English speaker. The reason you have said is one reason why, I think how the line is delivered is very important, and also when your reading you can miss things taking place visually on the screen.
 
Subtitles are a lot easier than you think, friends. Just read 'em like you'd read a street sign. You're done in half an instant. Really. And you can concentrate on everything else on screen that isn't a subtitle.

Most people get in trouble with subtitles by trying to "read along" with the character saying the words onscreen. (Sound familiar?) Big mistake. It slows your reading way down and it's way too much work like that.

We figured this out in college, where we watched a lot of anime and Hong Kong movies--all subtitled. And us sometimes drunk out of our skulls.

BTW here's a foreign film you might enjoy--it's just recently been released. District B13. Think Escape From New York, only it's Escape From Paris--with martial arts and that urban running, where they're leaping from rooftop to rooftop, off of walls and railings--doing all kinds of crazy stunts. The action's incredible, and I guarantee you won't mind the subtitles. You won't even notice you're reading.
 
I also am not averse to reading subtitles at all, although it does get frustrating at times since I watch a lot of Asian (Japanese and Hong Kong) films, and unfortunately they like to do a lot of their own English translations, resulting in subtitles that make no sense at all. Asian films are still quite enjoyable viewing, though.

And in the spirit of the current Soccer championships, here's a couple of clips from one of my recent Hong Kong movie faves 😛 .........

Im not a fan of foreign films.

However I do love Advent Children. The proper Japanese version.

Also Battle Royale 1 and 2 are good too 🙂

Those were great clips. Thanks. And nonsense subtitles can be fun when you're watching with friends--unintentionally funny fun.
