Hi all, there's probably a thread for this somewhere but I couldn't find it, so my bad if this sounds redundant.
I was re-watching season six with a friend when it came to the episode where Buffy and Xander discover the trio have been spying on her comings and goings through the use of a gnome-cam (a video camera hidden inside a jolly little lawn ornament). Something seemed really familiar to me and then it clicked. The plethora of garden gnomes we see decorating the outside of Spike's crypt in Restless!
I would put it down to a random coincidence/a writer's subconscious tying that in, except for the fact that the gnome-cam represents so much in terms of furthering Spike's storyline (it's really the catalyst for everything that comes after it. If Buffy, Willow and Xander hadn't watched Anya and Spike on the hidden camera, Spike wouldn't have been driven to his actions in Seeing Red, and then wouldn't have gone off to get himself a soul.)
Another thing I noticed, this time in Once More With Feeling, is that during Walk Through the Fire (what with the importance symbolically of fire for Buffy and Spike), Giles and Sweets lines together, overlapping at just the right moment, result in this: "It's what they have inside...the spark." More foreshadowing? We all know that 'spark' was Spike's keyword for soul. Could this line be telling us that Buffy will never truly accept Spike until he's walked through the figurative fire and ensouled himself? Or am I reaching? (always a possibility).
Okay, last one, and slightly more obvious, but going back to Restless, when Spike is posing in B&W and says, "I've hired myself out as an attraction" then proceeds to pose like he's been nailed to a cross, isn't it completely predicting the events of Beneath You in season seven when crazy Spike, after stabbing what's-her-faces stalker ex-boyfriend/former giant worm demon, says, "Bring the wife and kiddies, come and see the show". He runs off, and after that of course, is the whole angsty cross draping scene where Spike, once again, looks at though he's been nailed to the cross.
Okay, that's all for me. So, anyone else have anything they've noticed? Other than the obvious stuff *ahem, Randy Giles* ideally. Let me know. I love foreshadowing, especially when it's stuff you don't necessarily pick up on a first watch.
