Foreshadowing

The Trio were NEVER the "Big Bad". They never came close. Willow was subtly headed in that direction from the start. That's like saying The Beast was the "Big Bad" of season 4 of Angel, when it's quite clearly Jasmine.

Shhhhhhhhh haha I know but I'm defending Willow's reputation 😛

Anyway if anything maybe its setting up the events of the Fray arc in season 8, if you've been keeping up with the canon threads here on the site, the future evil, snake lady stuff thats going on, seems 'bigger' than her stint in season 6.

That's one of the reasons why I love the show so much 😀 My favourite foreshadowing scenes/lines would be the Buffy/Faith dream scenes in the end of season 3, and of course "Restless". Also Buffy's dream scenes near her 17th birthday in season 2.

I don't know if its foreshadowing but in School Hard, Spike and Buffy both end up with matching red streaks on their faces in almost the same place (hers is paint, his is blood) - it just seems like a symbolic connection right there in the very first episode they have together.

Just thought of another one, In Restless Xander's dream sequence - Spike in the tweed suit, Giles says "spike's like a son to me" and Buffy and Xander have that talk about sharks and spike chimes in "And on land!", flash forward to TabulaRasa same tweed suit, everybody thinks that Spike is Giles son, and there is the weird "loan shark" demon thingy.

I just found one on wikipedia (page about the episode Villains), I never noticed before:

When Rack tells Warren that Buffy is the least of his problems, he sarcastically responds "You're right. I'm sorry. Let's talk about my skin troubles", foreshadowing his death.

Giles in Something Blue "If those two dont kill eachother soon I might lend a hand" and in Restless "I still think Buffy should have killed you." Flash forward to Lies My Parents Told Me - Giles makes the alliance with Wood to kill Spike.

In "Help" Cassie does some of foreshadowing. She says to Spike, "She'll tell you"¦ one day, she'll tell you," referring to when Buffy says "I love you," in Chosen. And she tells Buffy, "I know that you'll go someplace dark underground," of course foreshadowing the final battle with the uber-vamps.

There's also also all the foreshadowing about Dawn by the crazy people Glory leaves behind. We as an audience are all still like WTF they just decided to give Buffy a little sister out of the blue and act like she was there all along, and the crazy people are coming up to her saying things like, "You don't belong here," and "Curds and Whey," which is a reference to when FAith foreshadowed Dawn's arrival callinmg her little miss muffet in season 3.

In Fear Itself the little fear demon tells Buffy "They're all going to abandon you, you know." And in fact they all do in Empty Places.

On Angel in the ep where he's having all the crazy dreams Fred after taking out all his guts says,"Nothing. I can't seem to find anything wrong with you. I mean"¦ except that you're empty. There's nothing left. Just a shell." Then few eps later Illyria takes over and Fred becomes just that, a shell.

Man, I love these shows 🙂

I got this from the commentaries, in Spin The Bottle, Fred when she is reverted back to her teenage self becomes the kinda conspiracy theory person ("y'all dont even know" lol.) Then later in the season in the episodes Shiny Happy People and The Magic Bullet she once again becomes the conspiracy theory person.

In "The Witch" with all the Amy/Mother body swapping, Buffy asks Joyce if she would like to be 16 again. Can you say "Band Candy"?

One episode before Hush, meaning also one before Tara appears and basically everything for Willow changes, Riley helps some students put up that Lesbian banner. And then Buffy asks him if he has something to tell her and he says something like "Yes, I am a lesbian". So, is that foreshadowing to Willow turning gay, or is that just random fun? I mean, it was only one episode before Hush, so I guess they already knew what they were going to do with Willow at that point, so it could be, right?

Oh, and foreshadowing is just giving clues or referencing an event that is yet to happen. Sometimes it helps people guess what's coming, sometimes it's a nice reward for people who are watching again, but mainly it just keeps things nice and cohesive.

And then in Chosen Buffy tells Spike she loves him.

As K just said: Of course it could be anyone... (I keep my money on Buffy, cos Illyra and Spike is just too weird a couple for me, and if it wasn't Illyra then I wouldn't know who the other "she" could be )

Illyria? What? that doesn't even make sense... I think it was most definitely meant as foreshadowing to Buffy saying I love you, when it comes to Spike "she" could only mean Buffy.

Hey people, I just realized a cool one, from the episode 'The Initiative':

Willow : Ok, say that I help, and you start a conversation. It goes great.

You like buffy, she likes you. You spend time together, feelings grow deeper, and one day, without even realizing it, you find you're in love. Time stops, And it feels like the whole world's made for you two, and you two alone, until the day one of you leaves and rips the still-beating heart from the other, who's now a broken, hollow, mockery of the human condition.

Riley : (Looking a bit put out, but is glib.) Yep, that's the plan.

And in the end that really IS the plan, he just leaves one day.

Okay, here's another one.

2x07, Lie to Me, when Willow, Xander, Buffy and Ford are playing billiard at the Bronze, Ford says 'I know all your darkest secrets Summers', which Xander playfully puts off with 'Care to put a wager on that?', becuase, well, Buffy being secret identity gal and all. But as it later turns out he actually does now that she's the Slayer (ergo her darkest secret), which he himself foreshadowed.

im not sure if this is exactly one, but in 'bewitched, bothered, bewildered', buffy and xander are discussing how he's dating cordy now, and buffy says she thinks he could find somebody better. then he says something like 'in a parallel universe, maybe'. then, in 'the wish', he's dating willow instead of cordy in the parallel universe.

I always thought bangel's first kiss... in which kissing Buffy for the first time brings out Angel's game face, Buffy screams, and then Angel vamooses... was definitely hinting at things to come. It was like a mini Bangel arc all in one scene.
