I just watched season 3 again today. In "Revelations" Giles forgives Angel for torturing and killing his girlfriend only a season earlier. Now, I do realize their were unique circumstances, but I don't know if I could've done it! Giles proved himself to be very mature and forgiving in that episode! So what do you think? Could you forgive and forget?Could you carry on in every day life ,working along side with the person who murdered your love? :scratchch

I don't know...I think the torturing I could forgive, but I'd probably be forever bitter about the loss of a love...you'd always wonder what could have been...Jenny & Giles could have been something wonderful, and Angelus took that opportunity away from him. Giles is a better man than I could have been (if I were a man too...)

He may have seemed to forgive Angel, but I refuse to believe he's all 100% forgive and forget, he'll always have that hate deep inside him...

I think part of it was to do with Buffy aswell, because she was willing to trust him, so was he, and also Giles seems to respect the fact that Angel and Angelus are two different people...

I think that he didnt completely. Me and my mum were also talking about that the other day, ever since that happened he has been so sour and not fun anymore.
I dont think i could ever forgive someone just like that, but he is bottleing the anger in of him. And he would never turn his back on buffy.

I don't think he completely forgave him, and he probably never will. And even if he did forgive him..he will definitely never forget.

Hmmm...I think I could forgive...but then I think of losing my man and I think...nope...I'd have the jerks head on a pike.

I think that he did forgive Angel. Angel and Angelus are two different people and Giles knows that. But at the same time, I don't think that he will ever forget...

I could never do it. But I don't think he has 100% forgiven him, and I don't think he ever will. but the fact that he seems to want to forgive, and tries, is very admirable!

See, those were my thoughts exactly.

I think the issue is that he forgave him, but he would never forget. Forgiveness is a virtue, which I don't know that I have. But you can be darn sure that I would never forget.

i don't think giles either forgave or forgot. i do think though tha t he remembered his own speech from "i only have eyes for you" - forgivenes is an act of compassion, it's not done because people deserve it, it's donebecause they need it". angel needed his forgiveness and he knew it. and maybe down the line he's manaed to come to terms with that angel was not in control athe time. but i don't think he ever did or will put it behind him completely.

I dont know wheather I would try to kill the person, have my revenge, I have never had a BoyF or anything so it is hard to tell, but if I think like the people like freinds, i would want my revenge.

Giles found it hard to realize that Angel and Angelus were two different people since the face was the same. He knew they were different and that he shouldn't hold a grudge against Angel, but everytime he saw Angel he was reminded of Jenny's death. It's hard to forget in circumstances like that. Giles did his best to try and forgive but when Jenny had recently died, he did the best he could around Angel.

I agree with some of what you say Cookie Dough, but I think it was because Giles knew the difference between Angel and Angelus that it made it slightly more easier for him to forgive Angel.

It's just a prime example of Giles knowledge coming before his emotions. We've seen two sides of Giles:

A man who knows he's the Watcher of a Slayer but can't seperate his emotions from his knowledge. With his relationship with Buffy his heart rules his head.

And a man who knows Angelus killed his love and Angel is less to blame than Giles himself. With his relationship with Angel his head rules his heart.

I think this just shows that although he loved Jenny, his love for her was not as strong as his love for Buffy.

Yeah, I think it was because he understood that Angel and Angelus are not the same person. Angelus was a monster and Angel is a hero.

Well... I think I could have forgiven him. Perhaps not as soon as Giles did but I think I'm mature enough to be forgiving of someone. However, I know that I wouldn't be able to forget. I would probably have forgiven Angel and not Angelus. It may have made it easier since Angel was not himself at the time.

I definately could not have forgiven him... I wouldn't even be able to face him without wanting to tear his head off... Even though he was someone completely different, the face still matches the murderer... It's bad, but true... And I'd never be able to look at him... It would remind me of losing my love, and regardless of if he had changed, I'd still blame him.

On AtS, all the characters accept and understand that Angel and Angelus aren't the same person, and I know it isn't really the same, but being a quite logical and rational person, as Giles is, he should be able to do that.. even though this was more in the beginning, and the whole "vampire with a soul" thing wasn't as clear and obvious to them as it was to those on AtS.
Anyways, I think I would be able to, I'm quite sure I would actually. I would never forget it, I'd probably think about it a lot, but I would forgive him and try to understand that Angel is not Angelus.
