FOX cancels Drive

Drive has been impounded.

Multiple sources confirm that Fox has axed the Tim Minear creation after less than three weeks on the air. I'll go out on a limb and say the show's crappy ratings were to blame. House encores will take over its Monday/8 pm timeslot.

There is one piece of good news: I'm hearing the final two unaired Drive eps may get burned off on consecutive Fridays in May.

Well this blows. It lasted the same amount of episodes as Wonderfalls did.

Hmm...it would be REALLY nice if it could get five and a half million viewers on Fridays, that would really make them wanna renew it and keep it there. But it will probably only pull 2.5-3 million. *sigh*

I haven't seen his other two shows that got canned, but if Drive is anything to go by, Minear should try writing for soaps or something more in his "artistic" bracket. Something that he could competently handle. Maybe he could get into adverts..

They only filmed 6 episodes so I don't think a boxset will be released soon.
Let's face it if a re-run of a damn game show gets better numbers then a new series do you honestly think it had a chance?
I guess with May sweeps coming up Fox figures re-runs of House is a better bet for the almighty advertising dollar. Capitalism...sometimes it really bites you in the ass in your quest for some entertainment.

As much as I'd like to like FOX the execs are morons. And they are not worthy of the genius that is Tim Minear. Maybe NBC could use his genius...they're so desperate in the ratings they're leaving on most of their "quality" shows, givin' em a chance. Or maybe ABC.

NBC execs are just as moronic as the Fox execs. NBC canceled The Black Donnelly's by Paul Hagis, only an oscar winning writer and producer for the last two years. A great unique show which only had Heroes as it's lead in for 1 episode. If the idiots had of kept Heroes running the Donnelly's would have been a hit and NBC would have owned the 9 - 11 Monday night slot.
Problem is with the networks if they don't get the instant numbers and buzz they axe. Whereas Cable just lets the show run knowing the numbers will be low but the loyal fan base will bring in more viewers over time. I swear network execs are adults who are in dire need of prozac to calm them down and give a show a damn chance! I've seen hoped up kids on a sugar and buzz cola frenzy the day after Halloween with more patience and common sense.

NBC is a lot better than FOX. Or at least, generally. When it comes to scripted shows they're letting the ones with the most critical and fan buzz to stick around (30 Rock, Friday Night Lights...). The Black Donnellys was a ratings failure and got very mixed reviews, NBC can't afford to keep every low-rated show on the air. I mean, I *wish* the show had survived but I can certainly understand why they axed it. But I really have to question their sanity of next season only airing reality/game shows in the 8/7c timeslot (except in cases where there's a hit already there, like Thursday.) Now THAT's stupid. And I hope it's a huge failure.

And this is why I don't bother watching FOX anymore. Was Drive a good show? Probably. But I wouldn't know. Too many of my faves had been pulled out from under me by FOX that I just can't be bothered anymore.
