Fox cancels this week's Bones

I dont need guns. But that doesnt mean my right to have them should be taken away. I shouldnt have to lose the ability to have a weapon because some random psychopath cant handle himself. Thats not what being an American is about.

hehe - I agree but i'm loving you and Aradhus' disagreement
The random psychopath isn't the problem. All that incident does is shed some light on an obvious problem.

But that doesnt mean my right to have them should be taken away.

You shouldn't have that right in the first place. I want to own a nuclear missle. I won't harm anyone with it, I just want to polish it and have it positioned above my fireplace to show off when guests arrive. It doesn't serve a purpose, but it looks shiney. Why don't I have that right? Yep, you've guessed it, because its dangerous. Guns, likewise. They cause much more pain than they do pleasure. They're a friggen blight on society.

100 years ago it was my right to possess cocaine. Now it's illegal, because its dangerous. That doesnt mean, of course, that in the right hands cocaine couldn't be controlled. It can, just like a gun can. But the negatives that come with it, far outweigh the positives.

You think every single person that takes cocaine is an addict?

Edit: Oh, by people are you referring to the authorities?

so you think that because something is dangerous, it shouldnt be allowed?

No, I'm sick and I'm not arguing this particularly well.

Here's the thing though, in regards to your question. Cars are dangerous, accidents happen, people can die. Planes are dangerous, they can crash, people can die.

The purpose of a car is to get from A to B quickly.
The purpose of a plane is to get from A to B quickly.
The purpose of a gun is to kill. That's why they're made, and that's what they're used for. To kill.

Give me a reasonable argument why people should have the right to onw a gun. Why are you defending the right for people to own guns?

1. Criminals are always going to have guns and we should have the right to use them to defend ourselves.

2. People use them to hunt.

3. People collect them.

4. People use them for sport.

5. "Guns kill people" isnt a good enough reason to not have them because most people are responsible.

I was going to respond to this in a disparaging way...but that isn't fair. There is an obvious culture clash between the UK and the US.
So the only thing I'm going to say in response is that if most people are responsible, why do they need guns? It seems that in the US irresponsible people can get guns very easily, even the mentally ill...and they do kill people. I cannot see any sane argument against more rigorous gun control in any responsible society.

I said reasonable, sillyhead.

2. People use them to hunt.

3. People collect them.

4. People use them for sport.

Ok, reason 1. Criminals are always going to have guns, therefore 'we' should also have guns to protect ourselves. Like when Cho started shooting up the campus, if all the students had guns they could have protected themselves and shot him first? Great idea. Lets arm everybody, then we'll all be safe.

By the way, do you have proof that all criminals use guns? Always have guns? They don't in Scotland. We don't flog guns legally here though. I wonder if there's a connection.

2: You don't need guns to hunt.

3: Of course, having a wide collection of guns is more valuable than the possible risk to human life.

4: And entertainment also. Why ruin our fun, just because some a-holes like to use our instruments of sport to kill people. Damn those murderers are so selfish.

5: Most people are also subject to their emotions. People get angry. Most murders are not premeditated. They often happen in 'heat of the moment' circumstances. Add a gun into those moments, and BANG. Another body onto a growing number of human beings killed by guns.

I mean, do you think that all murders are commited be people that are nuts?

It is easier to kill with a gun that it is with a knife, or with your hands.
Do you think that all the gun murders that happened in America last year would still have happened if those people couldn't get hold of a gun, or didn't have a gun at the time the murder took place?

Pass all the laws against guns and gun ownership you like, and it will make no difference. Criminals will always get guns for the simple reason that they disobey gun laws. Honest citizens will become victims because they obey the absurd laws and have no means of defending themselves. Ir you really want to prevent deaths, why not go after drunk drivers, who by actual count are responsible for seven times more deaths every year than gun owners?

Guns are no more at fault for the deaths caused in this country than automobiles are. The only way to stop murder is to stop the murderer.

You should also ban Bathrooms - 10,000 people a year in the US alone die because of that particular room and thats alot
Bull. That argument is so garbage. When you hold a gun in your hand, you get a sense of power. Its like a rush. Like crack. When some little punk rocks up and feels like a god, and he goes out and picks a fight and wastes someone. Having a gun is very similar. Especially for young people.

You people seem to think that only uneducated thugs commit murder.

You've quoted something about 15 posts back, have you read everything else since that post?

Because what you've written is garbage.

It's not the gun that kills, its the person that pulls the trigger.. - Homer voice.

Sure, and it's not the drug that's addictive, its the abusers personality.
And its not the excess food that make people fat, its a bad gene they have that makes them eat compulsively.
And as you get older, you don't grow taller, everything around you just gets smaller.

I've been around firearms all of my life, either as the son of an avid hunter, a member of the military, or as a competition shooter. I have also been a student of the bartial arts for over forty years and have achieved the rank of fourth degree black belt and the title of master. Neither my association with guns nor my martial arts training have ever in any way made me feel better than or more powerful than any other man or woman. Guns only make little people feel larger, and only then as long as they are the only ones who have them.

I personally think it's a little silly to pull this episode because it happens to take place on a school campus. People shouldn't be so sensitive. Besides, what kind of coincidence is it that TWO shows were pulled for college-crime-themed episodes? Bones and something else, I forget the other one. (Maybe Criminal Minds?)

Earshot was pulled for awhile.
There was an episode of Buffy pulled for the same reason right after Columbine. I can't remember the title, but it was the one where Jonathan tried to commit suicide with a high powered rifle in the school tower.

Yeah, Earshot. :D
I thought they pulled the season 3 finale and aired it during summer. Which is ALSO retarded. I really don't think people get that upset over TV.

oh now I understand why they showed the Spaceman one instead of the one with the disgusting college boy. It's a good thing they didn't air it. 🙁

HOLY CRAP! I didn't even realize this thread went on about this, and NOW I have something to input.

People in the UK, please take a step back. The people who are so against US having guns. Everyone else, just take a seat and enjoy.

I am originally Canadian. No gun laws protecting us, what I mean by that is...there ARE gun laws. We cannot have guns unless we are registered hunters. And if we use those guns in any other way, like for protection when someone breaks into our homes intending to kill, rape or steal our things, we will be charged by law. I now live in the USA. And I could not be happier knowing that I can own a gun. I still have to register and since I am sain with no criminal background there is no problem with me owning one. This way if Joe blow breaks into my home to kill me, or rape me I can protect myself. But here's the kicker...it doesn't have to be with a gun only. Did you know that in Canada you can't even defend yourself in your own home with a knife, or your own fist? Oh ya, so even tho your fist and a knife can do good damage in Canada you will still be charged, even tho it is you being invaded. Here in the USA if I am in the wal-mart parking lot and someone tries to steal my bag I can use my pocket knife to defend myself and I will not be charge...OMG did I say knife? Yes because we people do not need guns to defend ourselves, we can do it with knives, bats, fists, chairs, pepper spray etc. This being said...guns are not the only thing that can hurt people. Sure they may make it a bit easier because you don't have to get up close and personal to kill someone with one, unless of course you're a terrible shot and if so you should get glasses.
But the people who use guns to kill were probably going to use a knife or other blunt intrustment to do the deed. They just used the gun cause it was faster. Doesn't mean to say they were not going to do it with something else. Taking guns out of the equation does not lead to less murders. And I hate, HATE when people compare deaths amoung regions, cities countries etc. Someone once said "OH Canada has way less murders than America, American is so bad and violent" Well this person did not do their homework. They obviously didn't realize that the amount of people that live in ALL of Canada equals the amount of people that live in California.

So, I don't think people should be so quick to judge other countries and people because well first of all, your rotten luck you can't use a gun. And secondly, people need to do their homework before they make certain remarks. Canada has gun laws and yet, there is more than one murder a day in Toronto alone, and it's usually with a gun. Do you know why? Because just like everything else that is ilegal, like drugs, people can still get their hands on them. Cause nothing is impossible.

My stance, keep guns cause I like em...ok well that wasn't quite how I wanted to say it but you catch my drift.
Now my spouse is home and I need to unlock the front screen so, I am now done.
Oh, btw...I wasn't yelling at you when I used caps, I was making things clear.

Gun crime rates are calculated per capita, and even then US's is still about twice that of Canada. In a group of a hundred people, you're still twice as likely to get shot to death in the US than in a group of a hundred people North of the border, and not just because the hundred Canadians are probably all too busy making critically acclaimed indie rock in gigantic multi-instrumental creative collectives. If you do have the misfortune to get shot in Canada, the chances are that the gun in question was an illegal firearm that originally came from America. Stolen from a private owner. Who bought it for protection.

It's easy to say that "A gun murderer would have used something else to get the job done", but that fails to take into account bungled muggings, multiple killings, spur-of-the-moment shootings, bystanders, anything like that. A gun is instant, and offers a sense of disassociation you don't get with other weapons. There are millions of situations where a gun murder is a product of a stupid impulse or just a window of opportunity that circumstances wouldn't have permitted if the firearm hadn't been a factor. If I get pissed off with somebody, I could lose my goddamn mind with them for a few seconds. The moment passes, and all's well in the world, but if I had a gun in my hand at the time?

Easy access is a factor in gun death, inarguably. There are thousands of people who would be alive today if it had been harder for their killers to get a gun. Doubtless there will always be gun crime, but there'll always be car crashes too. That doesn't make airbags, seatbelts or not driving around with a big barrel of napalm on your lap any less advisable. Keeping bullets out of the most people possible should still be something a society should root for, even if total success will never be possible. Widespread gun ownership does not contribute to any such thing.

I remember some of the guys I was in the Army Reserve with, and they (and I, must be said) did get a rush from the gun. But it's a piece of machinery. It takes no more thought or effort to lethally operate a gun than it does to change a lightbulb, and frankly, I have no doubt in my mind that some of those guys were only held in check by the inconvenience they'd have to live with had they started shooting each other.

In the immortal words of Eddie Izzard, guns don't kill people, people do.
But I think the gun helps...

Eddie Izzard karma!
If I get pissed off with somebody, I could lose my goddamn mind with them for a few seconds. The moment passes, and all's well in the world, but if I had a gun in my hand at the time?

Whoa nelly, so, what you are saying is that you were probably not in the right frame of mind at that time and could have pulled a trigger on another human being and kill them? Wow, if it only takes a piece of machinery in your hand to change that, people who feel that way should definitely seek help.
I believe, and this is my opinion, that people kill people, guns or not. I also think people need to stop picking on the united states for their laws. You don't have to live here so why do it? Just leave Americans to their business. That's all I have to say on the matter.
Oh one more thing...I realize studies are done per capita, I was talking about people who just say these things without further research. I was saying people who say ALL OF CANADA compaired to ALL OF THE USA. Hmm this reminds of that time I mentioned that people should actually read my posts. And I don't think you can really blame the usa for the gun violence in Canada. If they don't get guns from the us. They will get them from somewhere else. Anyways, peace people. 🙂

I agree that people don't always do their research.
