Now I know this is only tangentially show related, but I thought such a great site deserved a nod.

I'm sorry, but targeting fansites - especially for a show that could use all the help it can get - is really bad for public opinion and doesn't exactly make me want to run out and watch FOX. Especially since FOX can't even pay someone minimum wage to update their stinking TC site that has nothing on it and takes 100 years to load.

Take a page from SONY's book - use the internet to your advantage not to alienate your viewing audience.
 
ya it's definately one of the stupidest things FOX has done... but hey at least we still haven't heard it got cancelled but i'm pretty sure it will be which really is lame

No, the webmaster posted the letter from FOX on their site and that the site is now down.

I'm not talking about the official TC site 😉
 
This isn't the first time that FOX have done this, a few years back they did the same to a lot of Buffy sites.

Its kind of shooting themselves in the foot, free publicity and a better site than the official. I personally never go to the official site because its rarely updated, slow to load and their message board layout is just a mess.
 
The official is fantasticly build but that is it.... no new info or anything so i search on other sites...

Yes. FOX said that I could keep the site up after removing all of my Tru Calling banners, buddy icons, wallpapers, 42 second intro in MP3, and the 10 second Tru Calling Next on Fox vid clip.

Plus:I had to cut the screen captures down to only 30 captures per episode.

After those alterations...I felt that there wasn't much left that the fans would be interested in, and really felt there was no point in putting the site back up.

I still love Tru Calling, and I'll be there until the end. But there's no love lost between me and FOX. I can tell you that.

I can't believe Fox have done this, as an earlier poster said, it's like shooting themselves in the foot. Grrr, silly stupid giant corporations!
 
Well, thanks for the site while it lasted, Wav! I visited it many a time for information. It was the best Tru site on the web, and now they've shut it down.

People who are all high and mighty thinking they have a right to squash people just because they think that someone is trying to make money of their name.

The internet is a part of free speech and tru calling fans should have been able to keep the site open.

does anyone know if they are going to fight this?

: deal : Sites like this are called blogging and it is perfectly legal and they cant shut down your site just so long as your not using copyrighted material they cant say anything about. I hate big corporations that love to squish people. I'm sorry they did that.
 
They think they're so big doing stuff like that but in teh long shot they're hurting themselves. They're the ones that are going to lose the publisity so let them get on with it.

So they weren't interested in shutting down the site, merely protecting their copyright. Seems reasonable to me.

Characters, logos, and screen caps are FOX's property. Free stuff damages the value of the property.

i just don't understand why they keep cancelling these types of shows for exmaple dark angel, angel and now maybe Tru calling.

its just stupid.
 
Tru isn't cancelled, they just shut down a fan site.

I don't see why either, I mean if it wasn't for these boards I wouldn't be as big a buffy fan as I am now.
 
Fox has been doing that for nearly a decade now. I understand audio and video stuff... but they seem to have little respect for the fans, that have no desire to make anything from the show, other then promote it and try and stimulate more interest.

I remember in like 1997 & 98 there was tons of that going around related to X-Files and Milennium websites... only possibly worse... so I guess maybe they are trying to make some consessions... but they really go after people in a way unlike many of the other Network/corporations it seems.
 
I remember joining a group called The Buffy Bringers. Similar to what SaveAngel was doing, making the cause known about what they were doing, this was back in the early stages of Buffy the net was a big part of their publicity. Like Winifred said above I understand why they ask them to remove audio and video clips as its a clear infringement of copyright, but perhaps if the offical sites were better then we wouldn't have this problem.
