Fray Buffy Season 8 Confusion

I found this on Wikipedia:
"Discussing her connection to the Slayer line, Urkonn tells Melaka, "In your dreams, you're someone else. A slave. A princess. A girl in school in a sunlit city." The scar Fray has and her personality resembles Buffy in the alternate universe created in season 3 episode "The Wish". In the canonical comics, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight, one of the Slayers is shown to be reading a Fray comic, a minor in-joke to fans of the series."

So does this mean that Fray is not considered canon?

I guess if Joss were a true canon Nazi, he wouldn't have let that sneak in. He let his own likeness sneak in too. He seems to consider Fray an official part of the 'verse, from everything I've read. The in-jokes don't bug me"”unless they get so distracting they take you out of the drama.

Never thought about The Wish scar thing, huh.

as far as i can tell, Joss does consider Fray to be Canon...i think the comic-in-the-comic thing was just a joke, to remind fans that Fray's still out there, and maybe he'll pick it up again one day. there's still a lot of confusion about the Slayer line returns to the point where, Fray's time, Chosen One means exactly that, ONE Slayer, instead of the thousands we're seeing in S8.

the scar thing though...interesting. never noticed that before.

Both Joss Whedon, and Dark Horse editor Scott Allie have insinuated if not outright said Fray will be returning in one form, or another.

If there's any doubt as to her story being canon I'm thinking that will vanish when Fray returns.

Directors, producers, writers, and lord only knows who all else have been making "guest appearances" in their own work back at least as long as Cervantes, who was a character in "Don Quixote." Alfred Hitchcock always appeared in each of his movies, as does Stan Lee. Clive Cussler has written himself into several of his Dirk Pitt novels...If Joss or his writers/artists want to insert himself or his characters into the storyline, or even just as background filler, just consider it an inside joke shared with the reader (I saw the "Fray" comic, and remember thinking that a "Serenity" one would've been a better choice)

What happened to good TV?
i think buffy wears a serenity t shirt in one of the comics...i may have made that up though

Thousands? I thought there were only 1800 activated slayers alive.

You're right, there are around 1800 identified Slayers, but I think Lyri knows that too; she was probably just trying to make a point.
what Allycat said is right...i do know that there are 1800 IDENTIFIED Slayers running around...but we don't know how many are still to BE identified. there's bound to be more showing up along the way.
