Well I've been wondering about a few things concerning Fray for a while, and thought I'd just make a general kind of thread because I couldn't find one.

The first thing is her tattoo. Does anyone know what it's origins are, or has anyone seen it before? I'm asking cause I want it, just not on my arm 😛 Anyway, would be cool if I understood it's meaning, unless it's just a Joss creation... I know Fray has a lot of symbolic feminist things going on with the purple.. so yeah.

The other thing is the creppy Old One demons that appear a few times in Fray. Are we meant to fully understand what they are going on about? They mention 'sending a cadre of demons to [kill Mel]' ... but then say 'no, that portal's been breached twice, we musn't risk it' And they also say something else which is puzzling, but I don't have the book in front of me. Has anyone worked this all out?:drunk:

Isn't Mel's tattoo a version of the biohazard symbol? It's a while since I looked at the comics and I haven't been able to find a really good online pic of it...but the pics I can find and memory tell me that it is. I don't know if it is meant to have any other meaning in the context of the comics.

Goldenboy noticed that one time too, and I mentioned I'd heard it described by a wiccan girl as a series of crescent moons symbolizing female strength so that was good for a chuckle if he was correct.

Here's the 2 symbols side by side to make a comparison. I flipped the biohazard symbol upside down, so the match is clearer.

On the demon lords not wanting to pass too much power through a portal at the time, ever notice that's a common idea in the Buffyverse? You can't pass too much power through a portal without a few tweaks to the rules.

I can't get that link to work n4h - it just comes up with a login window, which doesn't work when I try to log in. Am I being dense here or is it some foible of Mac OSX?

Nah. It's me. I thought I could link to attachments. Hang on I'll post a pic.
It's definitely the biohazard symbol then, which makes sense to me in the context of the story...no feminist subtext there IMO.

There isn't much difference then.. I need to ask Joss or the comic sketches... anyone have them near by to ask? 😉 I like the idea of having Fray's tattoo, but everyone would think I was a bio-hazard 😛 I guess I'll just wait a while, see if I still want it... don't want to be one of those fans with the entire cast of Buffy on their back.. no offence if you have that, heh.
The Old One's still confuse me.. I'll post about it later when I find my Fray book. Oh and thanks guys 🙂

Well yeah, because the people in Fray's district (Versi), are kind of like the refuse of Haddyn, and the upper class living in the towers above them. There's even mutants which are kind of like sci fi shorthand for toxic spills.
