Fray in the Buffyverse (*Possible spoilers)

Fray?

Did anyone read the Fray comics? I picked up one (Ep. 3) on the recommendation of an extreme Buffy fan and it seemed really interesting. Slayer with a twin and what not....Am I the only one geeky enough to read the comics?

I'm almost tempted to go out and start buying Joss Whedon's new Xmen comic series, while I wait for the next coming of Fray.
 
Hell no, don't bury it. Please, don't bury it. Merge and bump both topics to the top. I want to talk about Fray some more. You see, I am Geeky enough to have heard of it. 🙂

I picked that one up as well. I wasn't planning on it but the comic sales guy said "Come on get it!! you'll love it the dialouge is as fresh as all of Joss' other work and the artwork is great too". He worked soo v. hard for that 2.99 so I picked it up. He was right. I liked it better than the issue of Tales of the Vampire I picked up though I did laugh out loud while reading "taking care of business" with the faux God---great stuff.

I have to special order the rest of the Fray's. Everyone keeps saying she's a blend of Faith and Buffy but she seems to be very much her own character and I dig her look. I know it was only 8 volumes but from just the one episode I'd like to see much more. If this is the only continuation of the buffy world I'd like to pick up a continuing line of comics but that doesn't seem to be possible...poop.
 
Joss said he plans to do more with Fray at some stage... For my money, Fray is the middle kid between Tank Girl and Faith.

The movie isn't as bad as it seems. The comics are obviously much, much better.



Did no one like the Tales of the Vampires series?
 
I'm more of a White Queen fan than a Shadow Cat fan. Whats Kitty gonna do to her, when Emma is one of the most powerful tps in existance?

Though I'm far more of a Jean Grey fan, who I believe to be the most powerful mutant EVER. You could argue Nate Grey, but his tk and tp are basically on the same level as hers. Xavier has been surpassed long ago. Not to mention that she channels unlimited power via the Phoenix Force!
 
To all those who are interested in Fray but don't have all the issues, may I suggest picking up the trade paperback? It collects all the issues and has cool stuff like sketchbook material from the artist plus forewords by Joss and Jeph Loeb (Superman/Batman author and Buffy animated producer).
 
Seriously, I cannot recommend Fray strongly enough. I read a fair amount of comics, and it is by far the most enjoyable graphic novel I've ever read. Ever. And even better if you're a Buffy fan to begin with! Also, I suggest checking out Joss' Astonishing X-Men as well - I'm more of a casual X-Men fan, but it has been really awesome so far. You can totally tell Joss is writing it 🙂
 
I rarely if ever do this, but I'm going to resurrect this old thread. Just because it's time. I might even stake it.
 
Possible spoiler? Resurrecting this thread says enough, doesn't it? 😉 I'm sooo psyched about this. I wonder if future-Spike and future-Angel are gonna make an appearance. Future-Spike was holding a Scythe after all, and there WERE flying cars in the background. Also, Spike's holding Mel's Scythe, not Buffy's, because it's all red, there's no metalic on the blade.
 
Actually I was talking about spoilers if you haven't read Fray. But yeah, OK, the cats out of the bag. Fray appears to be coming to Buffy Season 8. There's already a thread about it HERE

So...seeing as this thread is more about Fray's significance to the Buffyverse, let's talk about that.

Will the questions of Fray finally be answered?

Will we get to find out how the slayer line goes from multiple slayers to a single slayer?

How will the slayer line be passed now? From Faith? From Buffy? From Potentials?

Where did Buffy's scythe go after she died? Is it the same one Fray has? If so where did Urkon get it?

BTW if you joined this thread late, there's lots of info on the Fray series as it pertains to the Buffyverse on the first page

One of the writers of Buffy season 8 has said that there will be no Buffy/Angel crossovers, so i doubt Spike and Angel will be in it, although with the flying cars being the same, it would make sense to happen...

And both Fray's scythe and Buffy's scythe on the crossover cover are all red =/

Yeah, think you're right. The lighting, angle makes Buffy's scythe blade look metallic compared to Fray's.

What does it mean that they'd both be all red? Jo knows what Buffy's scythe looks like.
 
Good questions N4H... my guesses:

Will the questions of Fray finally be answered? No, probably not. Joss is gonna leave that for Fray Vol. 2

Tales

The most interesting aspect of Fray comes to me in the Tales of the Vampires: "Tales". The final story in the volume. There are a good amount of questions this comic raised just by the simple appearance of a room with a shattered glass ceiling, metal bent and all, with a HUGE scythe painted in the middle of the floor with Watcher volumes containing all the information on Slayers... Not only would I like to know how that place came to be, but also where did the monkey go? Where did it come from? And how did Gunther know this "grab" was "special"??? Who REALLY sent her on this mission to get her this information on all the Slayers? I'd love to see an explanation for all the mysteries "Tales" opened up at least to me...
