I'm probably one of the only people that prefered Fred with Gunn rather than her with Wesley. Not saying Fred and Gunn are the best couple in Buffy and Angel history but I did think it was so unfair how their relationship slowly deteriorated and ended.
When Fred wanted to kill Prof Seidel for sending her to Pylea, Gunn tried to stop her from being consumer by vengence and killed Seidel for her.
I thought it was noble of him to take the plunge for Fred but sadly the price he paid was Fred looked at him differently in the aftermath.
We've had unclean breakups in Buffy before but that breakup I do find the most powerful on how it became obvious that their relationship was not going to be as strong as it was before.

I've always preferred Fred and Gunn to Fred and Wes (I have issues with the Fresly relationship). But Fred and Gunn are one of the most adorable ships I've come across; they are cuter than puppies and kittens and bunnies. He keeps her grounded and she brings out this incredible joy in him. I love that Gunn always made an effort to talk to her and actually pay attention to her; in the early stages of Season 3 Wes and Cordy sort of treat Fred as a child but Gunn never does.

I understand why their relationship disintegrated but I always felt that they should have been given a second chance because the only reason they are unable to sort through their issues is because they simply don't have the time to; there is simply too much going on in Season 4 for them to take time to breathe.

I truly hate that their entire relationship is disregarded in Season 5, solely to make way for Fresly. Watching Season 5 of Angel you would be forgiven for thinking that Fred and Gunn weren't even close friends, let alone a former couple who spent over a year together.
