Fred in Spin the Bottle

In Spin the Bottle, after they do the memory spell and they're all acting buzzed, Fred starts talking to a houseplant. She says "This is important. It's so beautiful." Do you think that might have been some foreshadowing to Illyria, who talked to plants? Maybe I'm just reading way too much into this...

I think this is nothing more then reading too much into something.

Fred and Illyria inhabit the same 'Shell' at different times, but they are not the smae person nor is one evolved from another.
Yes some of the memories of Fred passed onto Illyria, but Illyria was inquisitive about how life, the world, had changed in the millions of years since she had been walking on land......

It could have been foreshadowing, season four had several forshadowy comments about Illyria. For example Fred mentioned to Gunn she never wanted to be a shell. I am currently re-watching the season I haven"˜t seen it in like a year. I couldn't name them off the top of my head.

Oh, I didn't mean that Illyria was there or anything, just that it may have been a hint at what's to come for Fred, like I've heard there are mentions of Dawn in season 3 of Buffy.

I think you were reading too much into it. I just watched that epi today and if you remember she did that just as the spell hit and they were all walking around "stoned" (citar music is a good indicator) and I have witnessed a few people talk to plants, watch an aquarim full of fish thinking it was a Jaques Cousteau special. Besides if you remember she kept asking about weed.

Joss is known for hinting about everything, I mean a lot of the later plans he had wanted to do from like Season 1 of buffy. I am not so sure on the plant being a hint though as she was acting stoned in this episode. I think the shell reference was though.
