Well I didnt see the last half of Season 4 and the first half of Season 5 of Angel yet. But I did get to see the Illyria arc. Really good question. First of all, Amy Acker is brilliant. There are scenes that show such a big contrast between the 2 characters. Fred is so sweet. You really miss her because everytime I saw Illyria I saw a glimpse of Fred. It was so sad. Illyria was a ***** in the beginning but then started to be good and pretty funny too. Not Fade Away... Illyria definetly shined and in a way Fred did too.
 
I loved Fred for the sweetness and cuteness...

But I had to go for Illyria mainly for the entertainment factor - funny, dramatic (in a good way) and kicked ass...
 
Definitely Fred. My appreciation for Illyria grew towards the end of the season, but I love Fred so, so much. She's so cute, but still has so much depth to her personality. I cried for weeks when she died 🙁
 
Between the two, I'd have to go with Illyria. She was really awsome, she was funny in a way, strong, powerful, just a great addition to the show I think. She was just awsome. But I miss Fred🙁
 
I can't possibly choose! Fred was incredibly sweet, intelligent, loving, and when the chips were down, powerful character. And Illyria...well, the Illyria-ness! Cold, calculating, superior, warrior! She was brilliant for the things that make her the exact opposite of Fred. So, I love them for two different reasons...hence, no choosing...
 
Illyria is beautiful, sexy, commanding etc and she is lost in this world of humans, trapt in a body that does not properly contain her. I feel something for Illyria but it is Fred that I love (not in a sexual way 🙂 Fred is the good friend, gentle but strong, a brilliant woman who fights against unbelievable odds, she hangs onto her sanity by the thinest of threads, she has had everything taken from her and still can love. Fred's capacity for love might be the way Illyria learns to live among humans. They were forced into blending and I refuse to believe that all that was Fred was exsinguished when Illyria took over. As far as I'm concerned, I look at it like Illyria is a Goual'd ( Stargate ) who has assumed control over Fred's body, but deep inside Fred is there. Had the series continued I'm sure this would have been explored more but now all we have is fanfic and the hope that someday we may have some movies to continue the story.......
 
I liked both characters.I really wanted Fred to stay, because I liked her better than Cordelia.I'm glad she replaced Cordy.Illyria's character was very interesting.Illyria was more interesting to talk about, than Fred.Ilyria has a huge history, that can be formed into comics, movies, or shows.Her character is so interesting, that it can be in spin-off movies, comics, shows, or books.Her storyline will never end, especially since she's a ancient god.I liked both characters, but Amy's character, Illyria was more interesting.

Fred was definately my most favourite character. She was so sweet and loveable. It's not that I don't like Ilyria, her character was equally as interesting. I just think Fred was the better of the two.
 
I gotta stick with Fred. The name alone wins me over! Illyria is an interesting character still, but Fred's has that charm about her. She just makes me smile.
 
Illyria is a great character in every possible way, but Fred just had that kind of cuteness about her that just captived me; so, I voted for the later.
