This is just me complaining...so if you don't want to hear it, its ok to turn away now.

I work at a bank. This whole "economic stimulus" thing is driving me crazy. For one, people tend to be very dumb. They will come in or call and ask if it's come in yet (to their account). If we tell them no, some of them are like "but THEY told me it was coming in today!"

Who this mysterious THEY is supposed to be is still a mystery to me.

And why are you upset at me because it's not in yet? Do I control it?

We had a guy come in and he had recieved his "payment" but was upset because it wasn't as much as he thought it was going to be. That's so immature! The government just handed you free money and you're complaining?

....and now I have to go to work for the day.

Honey, there is NO end to the stupidity of some people! I see it every day in my job, too......the death of common sense!

I can say, tho, that the THEY is probably the IRS. There's a chart on their website that gives mailing and/or direct deposit dates according to the last 2 numbers of the primary taxpayer's SSN. I'd imagine people are going by that? Or if not, then who knows. Maybe they're making it up!

Btw, where IS my payment? I'm SURE you know...... 😉

I had the same problem with lottery winners when I worked at the evil red eyesore of a gas station. It was a windfall and they acted like they were entitled to it. It was even worse when their winnings were over $100, because we weren't allowed to give them cash; we had to give them a check. And it was even WORSE when it was over $600 because then they had to go to the lottery headquarters to get their money. All of this was printed right on the back of the lottery scratcher thing, but did they care? NOOOOOO.

And have I mentioned what a catastrophically bad idea this "economic stimulus" thing is?

I hear ya. A friend of mine worked at a local convienience (very poorly managed) convienience store for about a year. We have self-checking lotto machines here now that whistle and sing when you win something AND show the amount won on a big fancy screen), but people would STILL argue with her if they didn't win the amount they had thought, insisting she recheck it over and over.

And it got to the point where they couldn't give out any cash prizes$100 or over unless the manager was there. (Before that point they had cash on hand and could hand out prizes up to $1000 unless the ticket stated otherwise).

So when people came in and won $300, $400 in the afternoon after the manager left, they had to wait until she came in two days later to get their winnings (which lead to a lot of irate customers, needless to say). Doesn't matter how many signs they put up warning people of this, they always seemed SO surprised when you told them that you couldn't take their tickets. Somehow thought yelling at a teenaged kid would change the entire store policy (because it's all their fault of course).

And I can see why you'd be frustrated with that Kryp.! I know if someone handed me some free cash I'd just be saying "thank you!". I haven't heard much about this, but don't residents get cheques in the mail that they're supposed to cash themselves? That's how any gov't income tax money and stuff works here, anyway! ???

If you've set your tax return to direct deposit, so will this thing.
So what exactly are you talking about? People getting money from the government because they live on the street or don't have a job or people that are waiting for money from their employers?

I'm in love with your sig, just wanted to say :)

Our economy is tanking, so our government had the wonderful (cough, cough) idea to borrow a bunch of money from China and hand it out to the American people . . . so they can take it to Wal-Mart to be spend on products from China. And somehow this is supposed to stimulate OUR economy. Go figure.

I should have elaborated on this more...

We have had the schedule that the government posted since the week before it actually started coming out.

We have told people over and over and over (and over) that the date of deposit is supposed to be based on their SSN so they could check the IRS website, or we could tell them from the chart that we have, when the approximate date would be.

Some people (who aren't supposed to be getting their money for a while) still think they should have it before the date the government says their supposed to have it. Those are the people who are upset that "THEY said [they were] supposed to get it by now!"

People who didnt have their money direct deposited and are supposed to be expecting a paper check may not have their money until July, depending, again, on their SSN.

I'm going to be dealing with this forever.

The worst part, for me, is that I get no part in this. My dad filed me as a dependent because I didn't start working until like October, so I can't get it, but I'm over 17 so he doesnt get credit for me either. 🙁

that sucks a lot...stupid rule stupid rule...
Wait a minute, America's giving away money? For free? When did this happen? Whose idea was it? And, most importantly, why?

Because our government is stupid. See my above post about money from China.
The government is giving out money to anyone who filed their taxes for 2007 who didn't file as a dependent, has a valid SSN, and isn't a "nonresidential alien" as a way to stimulate our economy.

Are there some links someone can post where I can read up on this?

Also, hey Kryptonite, long time no mouth to mouth.

aww k, that is no fun. And while the entire thing is super bizarre, I am none-the-less excited to get my very own 600 bucks to pay off some dang bills...not so economy stimulating, but sanity stimulating. If gas prices go up again this week i might just lose my mind.
