Help French Homework

I need a little help with my French homework 🙂

We're reading the book "Un pacte avec le diable" and I have to translate a few pages but I can't figure out one sentence:

Je l'ai entendu frapper chez les voisin, et il est revenu en faisant sauter des clés dans sa main, souriant.

The problem is "faisant sauter des clés". I looked up faire sauter and it means to blow sth. up or to roast sth. That doesn't make sense.

That means actually that the keys go up in the air and then back in his hand... Exactly when you jump (what "sauter" means in this sentence) but here it is the movement the keys make. Sorry, cannot find the exact word for that.... Hope it helped... 😀

More like tossing the keys then? Throwing them up in the air and then catching them?
