Friday the 13th... the NEW series

As the first series was horrible.. Deadline is reporting that

The CW is heading to Crystal Lake. The network topper Mark Pedowitz today confirmed that the CW is developing Friday The 13th, a drama series based on the long-running feature franchise. The series adaptation will be written by Steve Mitchell & Craig Van Sickle, creators of the 1996 NBC series The Pretender through CBS TV Studios. “They are new in development,” Pedowitz told Deadline.

Here's the kicker, and right, wrong of indifferent I think MTV's Scream series might be the cause of this:

The series reimagines the masked Jason with a stronger feel of grounded reality. Described as a sophisticated, horror/crime thriller, the Friday The 13th series is about the ongoing quest of a detective’s search for his missing brother that is somehow tied to Jason Vorhees, a long thought dead serial killer who has now returned to wreak havoc in the new Crystal Lake.​

If that doesn't sound exactly like the Scream series- minus the sophisticated tone- I don't know what does!
CW should (hopefully) be able to get better actors than MTV, so I might give this one a go. I so desperately want to like Scream but cant, this might suffice.

Dammit, I hoped they were rebooting the Friday The 13th series. That, I kinda liked- tracking down cursed/magical artifacts every week, they came up with some good stories.
I wish they'd reboot that idea- not the one that got a dozen films, a crossover with Freddie, comics and has already been rebooted. 🙄

Warehouse 13 is basically light and comedic, with some drama later on. The Friday the 13th series was creepy 80's horror.

This old magician guy dies and all his possessions get auctioned off. His long-lost nephew and the lawyer in charge of the estate find out about all the weird stuff after about 100 cursed objects have already been sold off, so they have to go and track them down.
A lot of the episodes had a real 'monkey's paw' magical object kinda vibe, tending to kill the people who used/abused their power.

I only have vague memories of it, so there is a nostalgia factor, but if you want to do a straight-up horror series then I'd reboot an obscure 80's TV show.

Man I loved that Friday the 13th series. Back when you didn't get that sort of thing on tv often and I'm pretty sure I had to hide watching it from my parents lol

This sounds like the Scream tv show crossed with the way Rob Zombie remade Halloween: a kindler, gentler, psychopath. 😀

You were what? about 8? and you really had to hide to watch it? Wow.

I was younger than you and was watching Dirty Harry (encouraged to I might add!).. so.. to ever yang there is a yin.

I'm a big fan of horror. Horror and sci-fi are good genres for me but I don't think I've ever watched a TV show that is specifically horror based (or have I?). But if it's crime and thriller too I might try it. Detective stuff seems to be quite popular at the moment, just depends how well they pull it off (still not watched True Detective!)

Not really a fan of the film, and I do wish they would come up with some original concepts for television rather than just the endless parody of remakes/reboots etc...
