Which two character could be great friends?But writers never let them.For me;

Spike and Warren would never have been friends. In a weird kinda way Warren is a shadow self of Spike. Anyone who thinks that doesn't understand Spike as a character.

Cordelia and Buffy.
These two former queen bees really could have had a great friendship, and you see sprinkles of it throughout seasons 1-3. But the writers kept wanting to put a wall between them. Even Willow and Cordy formed a great relationship, despite Corey’s former bullying and Willow’s “I Hate Cordelia” club. I would have loved to see Cordy and Buffy develop a stronger friendship. I loved their camaraderie in “Homecoming”!

One of my favorite Cordy moments is risking her life to pretend to be Faith in order to save Buffy (after all that catty behavior, competition, and name calling), which isn't the only reason I see her as a better person than she even sees herself as.

Should have been more of the Buffy Tara friendship in my view. Tara was the only one who seemed to really understand what Buffy was going through. Especially after the death of her Mother.
Saying that, I don't think it should have developed into a full-blown 'ship', as I kinda see her a better match for Faith than Buffy tbh.
I see more of a Shoujo Ai than a ship with these two.

Friendships that seem obvious to me:
- Tara/Lorne; singing and sweetness. I picture a showstopping duet. Actually Lorne with any of the Scoobs; they'd find him a delight.
- Buffy/Anne Steele; how great would it have been for Buffy to know how she'd helped/shaped this girl's life? And how Anne was helping others in turn?
Xander/David Nabbitt: It would be nice for Xander to have a guy-nerd friend; one that happens to be a billionaire aware of the supernatural is a nice bonus.
Olaf The Troll/The Grooslaug: Half a D&D adventuring party waiting to happen.
- The Mayor/Holland Manners; Bad guys need friends too. And I think a giant evil snake would need sound legal advice. They are both warm and fatherly in a way that covers their diabolical evil natures.
Warren Mears/Knox: What if Wolfram & Hart are headhunted Warren for their R&D department? *shudder*
Dawn/those other other kids her own age from 'Lessons'.
Older Cordelia & Buffy; ideally Buffy s5/Angel S2 or thereabouts.
I'm not sure. Spike pegged Warren as a loser from the start when he bullied him into making a sex-bot. Not much fondness there. In fact Spike treats most guys he meets like losers who are somehow lesser than him.
I can never really picture Spike in a friendship with a guy until AtS 5 when he meets Gunn. Otherwise not so much.
Maybe in a strictly reminiscing sense; like maybe they both witnessed the French revolution and have different takes on it, or that Angel couldn't ever understand Lutherans either.
Other than that maybe she could give him some sound financial advice or diversify his portfolio or something.

I think that's why Tara is able to get through to her and listen to her in season 6 without judgment. Having just lost my own mother, my friends who have previously lost theirs are the ones that I have leaned on the most in the past few weeks. Being (relatively) young without a mother is the hardest thing to go through in my life so far.

That’s a “ship” all in itself. If only Willow wasn’t clouded by the incessant Kennedy! I’m sure we could have seen her with Fred in season 5 of Angel!!
