Xander/Willow friendship is nonexistent since Willow and Tara became a done deal, that's after "Family".

This is why "Grave" doesn't work very deeply for me. It's the reconfirmation and overdraft of their childhood friendship, not the recent one. After "Grave" even the childhood friendship becomes thin.

I definitely think Willow and Xander were still close in season 5 (like in The Body). In season 6 Willow was kind of doing her own thing. Grave works for me because of the fact that it reminds me of how close they used to be--it's bittersweet. In season 7 Willow and Xander do spend some time together. But yeah, the core four relationships do suffer in later years, which is part of why I usually prefer the early romances to the later romances (especially Willow and Tara. Like, I would like to see them around other people once in a while! Whyyy do they have to be attached at the hip. Ugh, bitterness😡) Anyways, their friendship is still the most important to me because I think of the early seasons as more important anyways.

Principal Snyder and the mayor seemed pretty tight. I think the police chief was close with them too.
