I know I can't be the only one loving this show, right? It's witty, intelligent, it stars (Pacey) Joshua Jackson, and it has yet another really adorable partner pairing. Plus Walter is wonderful and the whole thing gives me my weekly dose of weird. So? Any other fans? How about that season finale?!
 
This is one of those series where sci-fi and physics just don't matter. It is a series which weaves all the events together (but does not overdo it like Lost) and answers as it goes.
The season 2 finale was a mind bender and I am so pissed that I have to wait for the fall! After Darkness has a dedicated forum for the show if you want to get some good feedback.

I'm with you there, stinks that we have to wait so long for the next season :(
I'm a fan of this show, Walter makes it for me. In general I think that the MOTW eps pretty much suck, however the mythology eps are amazing & more than make up for the slightly dodgier eps. I have to say I'm not a huge fan of Olivia, she seems (imo) to flip between totally cold & totally emotional, with not much of an inbetween. That being said she kinda works in the context off the show. I agree with tt, the season finale was epic. Should be an interesting 3rd season.
 
I've been reading more on the show lately, and I've found that there's a pretty big dichotomy between people who love Olivia and people who hate her. That surprised me, because I always liked her. She's different from the usual heroine I watch--more mature and grown-up. She's also a woman who has always fought for a place in a man's world, first with the marines and then with the FBI. I like that about her, and she feels unique to me because of that. I think you're right that she's usually one extreme or the other, but I think it's because she holds everything pretty close and only really strong emotions get through. I tend to get tired of the "it's a personal failure if I don't save EVERYONE" routine with her, but I think it motivates her a lot of the time.

I've never really disliked an episode, to be honest. It always entertains me, which I love. =D
 
You got good timing. I brought up the show in VH a few hours before you started the thread. 🙂 I started to watch the show when it began but finished watching around episode 14. Not because I didn'tlike it but it just got cut from my watching list since I followed too many shows. Now I'm rewatching it from the start and are now at the episodes I haven't seen before. Still on season one though. To me shows always get better when you can watch a lot of episodes in a short time instead of having to wait at least a week between them. Walter sure is special. I can't say that I love Olivia but I don't hate her either. I like her more often than not. Especially with her niece. I like Peter a lot though. And I hope we get to see more of Astrid at some point. I get that focus can't be on her but a little more wouldn't hurt.
 
Walter's great! The back-and-forth between he and Peter really gives the show something special. I also love that he can be so smart and scientific one moment, and then say something so completely inane the next. "I have big news! I decided on the pancakes. And oh, I think Olivia called." =D

I love Astrid too! She's just so adorable with her big hairstyle. She's more present in Season 2, I think. Peter's fantastic too, and so, so attractive. I love a smart man.
 
I want to watch this but need to wait for the DVD's to catch up so maybe when season two comes out I will watch it. Glad to see people are enjoying it.

I think the reason there is a "like her/hate her" feeling about Olivia was deliberate for two reasons. One the events she went thru when she was a lab rat for Billy and Walter when she was so young. It traumatized her to the point where bad things/nice things just don't register with her. Sort of a sub-conscious protective reflex until she can process the situation first. And even if it's a nice situation her character still shows a neutral emotion about it. The kiss with Peter was the most irrational moment of emotion I have seen by her.
And two it is what is going to expose alt-Olivia in season 3 to the gang.
 
I didn't warm up to Olivia until about halfway through the first season when she's in the bar with Peter doing card tricks. That's when she started to soften and smile and show a genuine sense of humor instead of being all tragic all the time. Don't get me wrong, she had reason to be tragic, but it got old after the first couple of episodes. Now I love her.
 
I stumbled upon this show a few months ago, it was the episode where a scientist essentially turns his wife into a vampire?

Anyway, it got my attention for obvious reasons and after watching most of season 2 I'm totally hooked. I haven't seen season 1 yet, but I've wikipedia'd the episodes to finally learn the back-story to some of the characters. I'll admit, when I first saw the show I wasn't a big Olivia fan, but as Season 2 progressed and I got to see more of her "human" side that all changed. Especially after the finale, she's definitely my favourite character.

Kelsey, I agree with you about Walter too. The dynamic between He and Peter is really entertaining to watch, and I love how random Walter can be. It makes him a loveable mad scientist (and makes
Walterate
kist that much more chilling!).


But as teentitan mentioned guys After-Darkness has a whole forum dedicated to Fringe and we could always use more folks to discuss it with there. If anyone's interested the link's above, there's plenty of familiar faces around there too (as it's BB's sister site) 🙂
 
Just watched the first episode of season 2. Anyone else than me that recognized Luke Goss and remember what he was first famous for? I'm so old... I'll get my ass to AD and start posting soon. I'm so behind on my online life. 🙁
 
Finished an episode that sure made me go "huh". Thought I got the episodes in the wrong order or something. Turns out Fox did their usual thing. Airing episodes in the wrong order. They just can't help themselves can they? 😉
 
^ It was the one that actually happened in S1 that they aired in the middle of S2, wasn't it? Where

I've started from the beginning, and I can see now why it took people awhile to warm up to Olivia. Probably because it takes her a while to warm up! I decided I loved her in Bound, when she
is super awesome and escapes from the people who kidnapped her. She was very reminiscent of Buffy in that moment!
I remembering thinking that Anna Torv was a bad actor, but she's not--she's just very understated. And I think it's also just the way Olivia is as a character.

Putting a lot of spoilers in case someone that hasn't watched the show to the season two ending is reading this.

Just finished season 2. Now this is how a season should end. You should hate it because you need to continue watching right now and don't have to wait. Not a shocking ending though. Once the grenade exploded (not a big enough spoiler 😉) I thought this was going to happen. But you can never be sure until it is actually confirmed. As with
Peter being from the other universe
and
Walternate (love the name 😀) coming through on the bridge.
I'll stay away from all the things I thought was going to happen but never did. 😉

A few things I need help understanding though. It might have been explained but I've missed it. So if you have answers or theories please bring them on.

Why don't Peter remember his childhood? For example being sick. He was sick in both universes after all. Not like going through universes make you lose your memery. At least not everyone.

If there's two of everyone why no Ella in the other universe? Sure Rachel died in that universe. But with that kind of thinking difference like that must have happened a lot of the time in either universe which means a lot of other people would never have been born and so on. Which should mean the people in both universes shouldn't be close to be the exact same.

If Olivia is the key for them traveling between the universes in the last episode why does it work with the wrong Olivia? She was never experienced on as a child was she? Or was it something else that made Olivia special? Or didn't they need her thanks to the machine? I got the impression the machine only helped in keeping the door open long enough to help them go through.

Wishing for even more Astrid in season 3. Really love her. Walter is such a tragic person but the main cause for humour.

Found season one really cheap so had to buy it even if I have way more important things to do with my money.

I don't think that's really been explained. Since Peter's father
kidnapped him from the other side, perhaps he was so traumitized that he repressed the memories? Peter knew that Walter wasn't his father and he knew on some level that he was being taken, so maybe that was his defense mechanism. Also, he was so sick that maybe it did do something to his memory. Who knows?

There is no Ella because Rachel died in child birth, and Ella must have died too.
That's true, though, that the worlds should be pretty different, and I think they more or less are.

William Bell found a hat trick! Hah, he
supposedly had more power in his atoms because they had been separated so many times while he travelled between universes... or something? But I guess Bell and the machine combined were able to get them all back without Olivia's help

Wishing for even more Astrid in season 3. Really love her. Walter is such a tragic person but the main cause for humour.

Aw, I know, I love her! She's so cute and sweet. I like her interactions with Walter. I think they should give her some really tough scenes next season; she in a FBI agent after all! Olivia doesn't have to be the only kickass female agent.

Well, I think in the grand scheme of things, there are.
There are two worlds, two United States of Americas, two Olivias, two Walters, two Astrids... if you look at how many situations like Ella's could have happened, then yeah, the worlds should be very different, but as it relates to the plot, there are mostly two of everything. I think the "more than one of everything" speech was mostly for shock value anyway, and to let us know there would probably be doubles showing up soon.

Ah, good point! I guess it's veiwer's choice: Bell is just really strong, or it's a plothole.
 
I agree with everyone else about Walter, and I also like the relationship between Peter and Olivia this season (favorite moment:
when Peter glimmered as Olivia realized that he wasn't from her world. A great meld of acting and visual effects
). I like the mythology storylines, but the stand-alone episodes are often better.
