David Boreanaz, star of The WB's vampire series Angel, told the official WB Web site that the upcoming fifth season will feature more stand-alone episodes and shorter story arcs. "It's not going to be so heavy as it was in the past," Boreanaz said. "The arcs are going to be shorter. There are going to be more stand-alone shows."

Boreanaz, sporting a small goatee, added that the show will get a little lighter this season. "You're going to see a group of characters investigate something [and] get through it," he said. "It will be more light stuff happening. A lot of dark humor going on. ... It's action. ... There's adventure. There's love. ... It's fast-paced, [with] special effects. ... It's going to be packed with quick jabs rather than long punches this year." Angel returns to its regular Wednesday 9 p.m. ET/PT timeslot on Oct. 1.

I usually like the long story arcs; it makes it more interesting to watch - as much as I hate cliffhangers, that's what makes us come back for more. So it's like going back to Season 1?
 
Yeah I think it is going back to how it was in S1 too! I really enjoyed S4, becos of the story arc's, there was just so much going on!
 
That sucks, ATVS has always had the best story arcs and twists and turns. Oh well, maybe there just doing this for fans who want to jump on and continue back onto the arcs for season 6 *crosses fingers). But you can't really say that ATVS ever really had one clear big bad, last season you had quite a few villains who made the story proggress, THe Beast, Angelous, Cordy, and Jasmine al helped the season proggress. I just think that season 5 is a transition season for the series, then it will be back to intense arcs.
 
I like the long story arcs, it makes it feel more like a series, you have to watch the next episode to find out what happens. I think they need a big bad too coz that's always how the last episode of the seasons end, fighting the big bad.
 
Yes I agree there is always more intrest with a big bad and the story archs . But perhaps like others say its just a transitional time . Ive been away awhile from the boards will someone please let me know if any of the buffy cast will be on Angel? I know Spike will be there but anyone else ?

No one else besides Spike will be a regular - but Harmony is showing up for 17 episodes, and Buffy is supposedly in talks to show up for an episode or two. Check the threads in the Season 5 Pre-discussion forum to see who the new additions are. Cordelia and Connor are leaving the cast completely.🙁
 
NO BIG BAD??? but but but....

awww, this is gunna change everything, i can understand wanting to shorten the story arcs, like every ep is sumthin different, but at least the two or three last episodes should be connected, you know for the season finale, if not it just dont feel special! 🙁
