Full rewatch, or "snack" on selected eps?

So, I have a dilemma. I'm almost done with my AtS rewatch and I'm dying to have some daily BtVS again. I miss it.

I can't decide between a full, ep-by-ep rewatch (it would only be my second rewatch, third overall viewing), or snacking on selected eps as they strike my fancy.

(I've been snacking some - I watch OMWF and Grave rather frequently, and I recently watched Passion and Innocence.)

What are your thoughts?

I love Passion and Innocence.
I'd suggest a complete run through - but perhaps skip any episode you don't care to watch? Then again that wouldn't be a complete run though 😛

I just know that when I went back to watch episodes of Buffy at certain times...it kept making me want to watch the following episode so I could watch the plot continue. lol

LOL. That question did occur to me and I've already decided - if I do a full rewatch I'll watch 'em all, even Go Fish and Beer Bad and Superstar and Storyteller (my four least favorite eps). And the painful ones, like The Body and Lies My Parents Told Me. And the ones I've seen half a dozen times already. 🙂

hahah, that's funny - when I was thinking of episodes to skip "beer bad" and "superstar" were in my head. :tongue3:

I like "snacking" on BTVS. I'll do a re-watch every now and then (no more than once a year) but I try and watch an episode once or twice a week. Although, if you are going to be watching daily, skipping around might drive you crazy continuity wise.

I'm watching BtVS and AtS for the fourth time now. I always do full rewatches, and I also watch all the episodes I don't really like. Also, when I get to BtVS season 4, I watch BtVS and AtS together.

I very much enjoy 'snacking' on Buffy (lol) as then I can pick and choose my favorites to watch and skip the ones I find weaker in plot or interest.

With the stated above I'll add that this happens to me a lot too. I'll start watching individual favorites but sometimes it just ends with me wanting to follow the season through it's arc in the correct order. 🙂 So I'd suggest start by picking favorites and see where ya end up...

You might try taking just the episodes from both series that comprise crossovers, like "This Year's Girl" and "Who Are You" from BTVS and "Five By Five" and "Sanctuary" from Angel and watch them that way, or episodes with similar themes, like "Tabula Rasa" and "Spin The Bottle," where the two groups develop amnesia, or just the episodes from each series that feature flashbacks to the Angelus/William The Bloody era, or maybe just the 2 or 3 final episodes of the series, showing Buffy and the Scoobies in their various final battles.

Those are really good ideas.
If it would only be your second rewatch then I'd go for a full ep by ep rewatch to catch all the little things you missed first time around 😀

I LOVE that you refer to it as "snacking!" In my almost 14 years of being a fan, I've never once done a complete, chronological rewatch. I just watch what I want, and when.

When I got my husband into the show, (back when he was just my boyfriend haha), we watched all over the place because he never agreed to formally just sitting down and trying to get into it. He would just watch when I had it on, get interested in a particular story line, then we'd watch that story line. When he'd seen most of it, we checked to make sure he'd seen all the eps. But never a chronological thing.

I'm actually in this phase now where I want to watch interesting combinations of episodes, one after the other. For example:
School Hard->Smashed->Touched.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind->Birthday->You're Welcome.
Doppelgangland->Triangle->Bargaining->Grave.
It's really fun.

That sounds really interesting!
At the moment I take snacks(what a nice expression). But I want to make a completely rewatch of BTVS in English! Hope I'll find the time!

I'm currently just snacking through Buffy haha. I don't like a few of the episodes so most of the time I watch them. I sometimes find myself feeling in the mood for a certain season. A while ago I rewatched season 4 and gave it my full attention which I enjoyed and I've just finished watching season 6 as I felt that was the season I knew the least about. I like to read the discussions on the board to and when I think I can't remember that, I watch the episode mentioned 🙂

I usually snack. But now that I've convinced some of my friends to watch BtVS, I'm going to watch the series along with them all the way through. I suppose it depends how much time you have.

I've decided on a full rewatch.

The reason is simple: MAXIMUM BtVS. 🙂 I can make this last for WEEKS.

Thanks for the advice, everyone!!!

I'd say do a full rewatch. 🙂 I "snack" on episodes every once in a while too, but if you're looking for a daily watch, a rewatch is the best way to experience it.

EDIT: Oh, you already decided. 😛 Well, have fun!

I love Buffy so much that it's hard to just 'snack'-- I always want to continue watching to see what happens next (even though I've seen it countless times!). Another reason why I don't like skipping around is because often I'll get confused with the stories going on that sometimes span over several episodes and that always gets me frustrated. Maybe it's just the way I personally run, but I have to start from the very beginning and not miss anything. But, more importantly, it's pretty much impossible for me to settle on one specific episode when I love all 144 of them! That's not to say if I happen to catch a random episode on TV or if I'm in one of those rare moods for a certain plot/monster-of-the-week that I won't skip around though.

Recently I've been starting up with a whole series re-watch for the umpteenth time. The last time I did that was over a year ago and it feels awesome to reacquaint myself with the characters. Just finished season one and I'm totally back in the Buffy zone. Oh, how I've missed it...

I know this is a dumb question, and I could figure it out myself, but if anyone knows off the top of their head (and I suspect someone does): when I reach BtVS season 4, I'm going to blend it with a rewatch of AtS. So: which ep do I watch first? BtVS - AtS? Or the other way around? (I think it's BtVS - AtS?)

Buffy first and then Angel. :D I just did the rewatch that way. It was fun.
I'm all for full rewatch. But I guess it's fine to skip the episodes that you personally don't like. Why make yourself suffer?

I'm still considering whether to skip any. I'm kind of a perfectionist. :-)
I tend to have marathon series re-watches BUT I have seen Once More With Feeling, Pangs, Something Blue and Doppelgangland 'individually' because they're all hilarious and can be enjoyed away from the overall story arc.

Pangs is one of my favourite 'funny' eps - Spike's on fire with the wit and I love the Willow and Giles tiff over the ethics of killing a native Indian vengeful spirit

In honor of Thanksgiving I just watched Pangs on Thursday. It's hilarious.
