Little Albatross
Hello, my fellow Browncoats.
Recently, I had this idea for a Firefly Role Play game, and really wanted to try it out!
I'm trying to gage interest, and see if I should try it or real.
MECHANICS:
This would be run a little differently than your average forum RP.
It will be a little more like a tabletop RP game, as I will be gamemastering it. Meaning, I'd be laying out story pieces for characters to interact with, as well as keeping the whole game in check. I'd be checking in at least once a week to keep the story going, playing all the npcs, etc.
Each player would get at least one turn per week, blah blah blah blah blah.
Basically, you write the story. I just keep it moving.
I think we'd also instigate a stat system, just to keep things fun and interesting. They'd be incredibly simple, not like DnD. Maybe just fighting or health stats, and one or two skills.
STORY:
Brief overview:
We join the crew of Serenity mid to late season 1. They've been without a job for an uncomfortable stretch of time. People are gettin' hungry! When all of a sudden, an offer comes in. Quite the scene is made during their meeting with the client, and quite the problem is presented...They need an undercover agent. One who the mark hasn't seen before. Only...because of that misshap, only one of those exsists.
River Tam.
Never fear. With the help of some friends here and there, the crew is able to form "River's Pearls" a haphazard jewelry operation just convincing enough to fool the mark. But can they actually pull off the job without getting caught? Can they keep River in check?
Well, I guess that's up to you, browncoat.
With this plotline, each player could choose if they wanted to be one of the canon main characters, or if they wanted to come up with their own "galactic outcast" who has agreed to help Mal and his crew in their mission.
I would be running the game as River Tam (as well as all other NPCs/unclaimed important characters), as it would put me central enough in the story to help steer, but also, because she's River, she's quite unpredictable, and can't be trusted with too many heavy duty tasks. It would be ultimately up to the other crew (you) to make sure the plan was successful. It would also allow me to "give hints/guidance" in game, as River might be able to use her "intuition" to help out struggling crew members. You might have some interpreting to do though...
(Note, I would be playing River by the "coin toss/dice" method so as to keep her realistic and not OP. In any important situation, I would flip a coin or roll a dice. Depending on what the outcome is, River might act normally, freak out, become agressive, be helpful etc. This IS NOT the Serenity version of the character, so while she can defend herself, as seen in the show, don't expect her to take on any reavers.)
Let me know if you might want to join if I started this up!
