Game Of Thrones : Isn't it disgusting and hard to watch ?

To Buffyverse fans that watch and love GOT, I've never really watch GOT but I saw one scene in TV one time of a woman getting humiliated by people (like in the middle age) surely because of being raped or not being pure. It scared me and grossed me out (it disturb me that women were/are treated like that in ancient times).
And then I saw comments on Amazon by people about dvds of GOT about this show and it does have some Pedophilia, Zoophilia, Incest, rape ... some horrible things. This is why I never watched that disturbing show even if it's popular. Does that show is hard/disturbing to watch for you ?
 
Nope. Not at all. Maybe if you are the over-sensitive type I could see it might be. It's no worse than a lot of shows and better than the majority of them. I don't recall ever seeing zoophilia though, sadly; that could have been funny.
 
You're probably referring to a scene with Cersei, who is my favourite character and a total bad-ass, and she and her brother/lover will murder their enemies with their elephant army. Trust me, she has already repaid the people who humiliated her in kind.

It can get quite gratuitous in its depictions of sexual violence. I suggest you give it a try if you are curious. You can always stop if you find it is not to your liking.
 
I don't find dark subject matters hard to watch if it's written, directed, & acted well. GoT is well crafted.

The scene you probably saw was of Cersei Lannister. She wasn't made to do a walk of shame because she was impure. She cheated on the King with her twin brother, killed the King, and illegally put her bastard incest 13 year old son (who was immature & really bloodthirsty, like a young Caligula) on the throne.

You care about the characters. It lets you root for the downfall of the villains (Viserys, Joffrey, Walder Frey, Ramsay, Petyr) instead of giving them redemption arcs. The one guy (Khal Drogo) that people rooted for who should've been considered bad was revenge killed so he got what he deserved.

Even though Viserys sold his 15 year old virgin sister in exchange for an army, beat & molested her, and told her he'd let thousands of men & their horses rape her if it meant getting what he wanted?

Even though Joffrey is why Ned was beheaded, the Red Wedding happened, & Sansa was beat & psychologically tormented?

Tbh, I'm torn on Jaime. When he's away from Cersei, he's a good guy, which makes it seem like it was her influence that made him do anything bad. Around Brienne, his brother, etc, he isn't devious. It doesn't make up for pushing Bran but I think it puts him in character that did an evil thing category instead of evil character.

It was the Hounds official job to carry out executions. And even then the person he cared about the most (Arya) didn't forgive him for killing her friend.

They were funny! Made me laugh pretty much everytime they were on the screen. Especially Viserys. Joffery wasn't quite as funny but I so did love his little pouty expressions. Especially during the battle of blackwater when the half-man was showing him up. LOL. I miss Joffery a lot. Was so sad to see him die.

Okay, so you like them as entertainment but not people, I have lots of fave characters like that.
I do like Game of Thrones.

That being said, the two things I dislike about the show are the graphic, gratuitous displays of human suffering and the elements of the show that are like soap opera. I have watched every episode several times but at this point I'd rather just skip to certain scenes that I like. I find that I really only like maybe 4-5 characters from the show, so I often just watch only their scenes.

He didn't go into the deal with the intention of reneging on it. He fell in love. And if Walder Frey wasn't so spiteful & actually cared about the woman he was going to marry off, he'd have realized Robb's new deal was a good one. Kat's brother was a good age, handsome, amiable, and not involved in battles so would live a full life by her side. Robb was in battle after battle, had hardly any romantic & sexual experience, was away from the castle most of the time, and a high level target.

What happened was as much an overkill as the wedding dress rehearsal massacre from Kill Bill.
 
Is Game of Thrones disgusting and hard to watch, yes does it have a high sexual content? Yes, but lets face it, it is only a bit worse than True Blood. Are the sex scenes graphic or is the sex implied - just like True Blood.
But if you are going to lay the blame on any ones shoulders you should blame society. This society is very slack, take a look at what some Catholic priests have done to little boys and girls yet society seems to think a slight slap on the wrist is punishment enough.

Nah, I’m with Walter Frey here. You make a deal to give me 10 gold coins, then don’t come around later with 20 silver coins, saying that, really, they’re better anyway.

You made a political alliance. Falling in looove is irrelevant. He shouldve kept her as his mistress, but kids today... think they can do as they please and everyone else will adjust 😉 They knew enough about Frey not to trust him, besides. Robb was sweet but turned arrogant and hardheaded, and paid the price.

(I’m upset the bride was AT the red wedding though. In the books she wasn’t so I was expecting some kund of grand comeback)

As for the show in general, I mostly think the nudity and violence sometimes gets a bit boring, but never found it hard to watch. I did stop watching the show though, but that was because I got bored with the plots and some characters (Daenerys especially)
 
Yes I find it disturbing to watch. From s1 -3 some chat friends got a commentary on how violent and offensive I found it. Fellow fans soften the blow of the outrageous parts. I would not have started it had I known how graphic and gruesome it got. But now I am hooked and I will see it out. (CERSEI AND JAMIE FTW)

I cant haha. The story was too compelling for me to stop watching. I draw flowers during the porn and violence instead. Battle of the bastards was so beautifully shot despite its content and to have moments of pure tele beauty makes up for some disturbing parts. It sort of has a balance like that.

I am unlikely to watch other shows like it. For sensitive souls like me, the images get stuck in my head and it can be very distressing. I think it was a peak of perverted interest in my case and now I am older and wiser and choosing to go back to things like Doctor who.
 
I think the special mail delivery Theon's father was sent is the most disturbing moment on the series.
 
With GoT I always found the violence and nudity reflective of the world the characters live in; life is basically hard, brutal and short for most. Even the rich and powerful have to watch their back so they indulge their apetites when they can.
Even so good guys that you really like die horribly, but also so do bad guys. Some 'evil' characters get redemption moments of a sort, but I'll wait and see if they actually do get any sort of happy ending.

The only season I had a problem with in terms of content was the second (?) season where the writers wrote in 'sexposition' where character and plot explanations were written into gratuitous sex scenes. That wasn't offensive really, just eye-rolling.
 
I can see how it would seem overwhelming from an outside perspective looking in, especially with the hype. But if you actually watch it there's really only a handful of shocking scenes, and even with those, the severity will vary depending on your perspective.

Only from an outside perspective? What hype, the hype was several years ago. Only a handful of shocking scenes, yeah right, for each episode maybe.
Having said that it is all an individuals perspective for the iffy scenes.

Your last sentence is my point..
It's occasionally hard to watch, and as it progressed it felt like it got more tortureporny, however it's set in a fictional War of the Roses, and back in those days women did get sold off for marriage, to a man of the highest possible fortune. Those women were treated (on the most part) abysmally. Yes, it's depicted in a fictitious world, however it's all based on historical fact to some degree.

Even in the reign of Henry VIII, there were rumours that Anne Boleyn was so desperate to bore him a son (as sons were always preferred, as they are in GoT) that she colluded with her own brother to conceive one. They both were executed shortly after.

It's mostly just incredibly made, with some fantastic performances. Just never expect a happy ending, and if you like a character they'll probably die. As long as you understand that, you'll enjoy it for the beautiful craft that it is.
