Episode Discussion Game of Thrones, Season 8

Really? That's news to me. I thought they could rename the show Everyone Loves Arya.

Maybe I just reside in the hateful areas of the internet but she is referred to as a Mary Sue endlessly, and there is a lot of people who think the same as you, that she dominated the show.

The show turned her into a terminator.

Can you please point me in their direction. Ah, but the real question is did they hate her before or only after she killed the night king? If they only hated her after then they are nothing but posers and I have no time for them.

Spanky is the OG Arya hater. So hipster!
Arya couldn't have died after she made the choice to live. It would undermine the moral that vengeance is destructive. Sandor died, because he stayed on his path. Jamie chose to die with Cersei, rather than live with Brienne. Dany will die next week.

Jamie chose to die with Cersei

This one caused a lot of backlash too. The fact that Jamie went back to Cersei wasn't in character and that Cersei should have died by someone's hand, and not just a building collapsing.
I thought that was missing the point - it wasn't just a building, the Iron Throne came down on her, her home, her kingdom and her safe space killed her. I thought it was fitting.

Also, Dany destroying the Iron Throne is nice callback to her referring to the wheel, "I'm not going to stop the wheel, I'm going to break the wheel.".

Yes. Though Jamie should not have been there.

I was so happy he went back. People are all, redemption arc blah! blah! blah! I think the word redemption is getting worn out from over-use.

Cersei and Jamie shared a womb. They grew up together, isolated from the world, under the thumb of Tywin. Jamie fathered Cersei children. He did horrible things for her. He went to Dorn to try to save Myrcella. Jamie did his bit, fighting alongside the goodies against the undead. I found it beautiful that he went back to stand with the woman he had loved and sinned with.

Brienne deserves better and Jamie does not really deserve forgiveness. He got an appropriate end.

I have no problem at all with him going back to her, he just should not have been able to. I can't imagine with those wounds that Jack Sparrow gave him he'd actually be able to get there and lead her down to escape. He should have died trying to get to her.

He crawled back to Cersei before with a dirty infected stumpy arm. Nothing can stop a man in love. 😛

@Taake @GraceK

Looking back I think I've brought some of that vitriol on myself for coming in hot after watching the episode and being too smug. Same again with reacting to the bullshit label. I should have minded my tone a bit better and I'm sorry for that.

Anyway here is why I'm annoyed at the bad writing criticism. This is me calling this 3 years ago on here and I'd been saying similar to others before then as well.

Yeah, because him bettering himself doesn't absolve him from all of his weaknesses. The redemption arc that people like to believe in would paint him as a much more simplistic character than he is.

Jamie getting back to Cersei and her last concern to be of their baby while their city collapsed was such a brilliant way to end their story. I am a pleased fan. Brieanne sop sucked.

That latest episode was the best of the season. Yeah, it was heavy on the Arya, but was suitable, to show another ground perspective. The last scenes were beautiful, of the top standard I expect from this show.

Danys turn made total sense and I loved it. I thought her aim all along was burn the cities and free the slaves. But I've forgotten most of the show. I am seriously surprised at the fans reactions to the extent its got to, and now completely disregard anyone who pulls the "bad writing" card across all fandoms since the reddit react.

I had lost hope it would wrap up well but happy now.

Brienne has sucked for awhile. It's a shame that Sansa will never know that when she needed her the most Brienne ignored her vow to both her and her mother, and went on a quest of revenge. How much abuse was Sansa the victim of because of Brienne?

Cersei murdered her best friend. For two years, since her arrival in Westeros, all she has done is listen to Tyrion and it cost her everything. She has one feast where she feels isolated and is grieving, and Varys immediately jumps to the conclusion that she’s insane and tries to overthrow her . 🤦🏻‍♀️ Seriously???? She still listens to him and PARLAYS with Cersei, who of course murders Missendei. Next episode and Varys is trying to POISON her food. That’s why she’s not eating. Rewatch that episode. He’s literally using that little girl from the kitchen to poison her. Her advisors are actually betraying her!! How is she crazy???
This might actually be a great point for why Dany snapped. After all of that betrayal and losing Jon as her lover, and losing Jorah and Missandei, maybe she was starting to feel like she was on the losing end.

This sudden genocidal turn is not earned. It’s like a switch was flipped and it’s bad writing. Were the seeds planted for her to go dark? Yes. But this REEKS of rushed writing because the show runners are over it. And that’s infuriating.
I agree with this though. Yes all of the seeds were there, but still I think it wasn't handled as best as possible. To me it still feels like she should have just ended when the bells sounded. I don't feel her motivation in that moment to then burn down the whole city. Maybe a quick scene of her seeing Cersei staring out could have helped. Idk. It doesn't work for me. Also, I have a big issue with the bricks exploring from the flames. That's not how fire works! I swear there was a moment when the bricks started flying off before the flames even hit it. Maybe that's a visual effects thing, but I hate it.

My eyes teared up when Tyrion thanked Jamie for standing by him when they were small. I am so happy Arya gave up on empty vengeance and chose life. I just wish Sandor could have followed his own advice. He had made so much progress.
These are actually my favorite parts of the episode. I love the Lannister brothers, and I hope Arya goes back to Gendry!

Oh that's a good way of looking at it. I like that. My problem is that Jamie sleep with and then left Brienne! Brienne doesn't deserve that treatment! Stupid Jamie! But I like him dying with Cersei.

I thought the explosions came from that green wildfire stuff? Could be wrong I was watching in double vision.

Read a theory that Jaime might actually be alive still. I think that would be great, cause I didn't like his going out with Cersei. Not sure what the point of him being alive is after all of that. But it would be interesting if he were still alive somehow. We'll see on Sunday. I can't wait to rewatch the show all over again after the finale is over.

To me, Dany doesn't want power for power's sake (the way that Cersci wants power), rather she feels almost a divine right to the throne and she feels that she is the best for the job. I do believe she needs a BIG slice of humble pie. I think Jon is the person to show her a different path - hopefully. But I think she has noble intentions. The biggest turning point for Dany will be when she finds out that what she has perceived as her birthright is not her birthright at all. And how will she react then? I think that will be her big moment. I'm cautiously optimistic that she will rise above what she has felt was her right to the throne.

I don't think any of us are going to get what we want... at all. I think all of our favorites probably die and it's incredibly tragic because this is GoTs. But my ideal ending would be Jon rules King's landing (and surrounding kingdoms) with Dany as his queen and hand. The North is declared independent and Sansa is Queen of the North with a strong and long-standing alliance. Arya is her hand.
Welp I guess I was wrong. So wrong.

My money's on Bronn. I would love for Bronn to become King of all Westeros. If there's an character who represents the mercenary, cunning and ruthless mind-set of GoT its him.
We've gotta forget all this nobility or right of bloodlines or whatever crap, its always last man/woman standing.

That would be awesome. Won't happen but it would be fantastic.
