Anyone gamers here?

What consoles do you play?

Thoughts on the new PS4 and Xbox one?

I got a PS3 in the Black friday sales, so going to get back into gaming, as soon as I get a few games for it that is!

I'm a big adventure game guy. I'm not really into first person shooters like Call or Duty or anything like that. I'll play the occasional fighting game from time to time, I always like to get the new Mortal Kombat games as soon as they come out (loved that franchise as a kid), but for the most part, give me a good adventure game with a good story and I'm set.

I love the Uncharted series. All three of those games are absolutely amazing. I'm planning on buying the PS4 eventually, but probably not until it drops in price (or if I get a very nice surprise on Christmas). I have to say though, that "Ryse: Son of Rome" for the Xbox One looks incredible. The visuals on that game are just stunning.

I'm a huge gamer, as soon as I have extra money or spending money, I use it to buy games. I have a PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, N64, SNES, DS, 3DS, Sega GameGear, and I'm trying to expand my collection with more retro gaming systems (again, money is mainly the issue here).

I guess you could say I'm a big Nintendo "fangirl", my favorite franchise is Legend of Zelda, and I love all the Nintendo mascots (the N64 era is my favorite)

Aside from that, my favorite genre is horror survival. Resident evil, Silent hill, the Ward... the scarier the better! (Old school RE was the best). I also really like RPGs.

With my brother, I do like playing shooters, or racing games.

Really, I'll give anything a chance, the only think I've never really played is sporting games (excluding the Mario sporting games, those are fun!)

As for Xbox one vs PS4, I've always liked Microsoft better for gaming (and Sony better for other electronics), but I must admit I'm more impressed PS4, it'll probably be a while before I get either of them though, and I'd rather get the WiiU first.

If I had to choose my favorite gaming "era", I'd have to go with the Super Nintendo. It's my all time favorite system. Games like Super Mario Bros., Secret of Mana (LOVE that game), the old Donkey Kong Country series, man, those were just the best.

Secret of Mana is awesome! Also, I'm going to add Earthbound to the list is awesome SNES titles
I love video games. Not much preference genre-wise, I love variety present in this medium.

I fire up PS 2 occasionally but I mostly play on PC these days. I might get a PS3 in the future though.

Apathy. Disappointment. In my opinion this is the most unexciting console launch ever. Boring games, boring hardware, no innovation whatsoever.

Hell yes! Silent Hill 3 is one of my top 10 personal favorite games of all time but really, the first 3 Silent Hill games are all great. Makes me sad, seeing what happened to the survival horror genre this generation.

I have to agree, there's a reason I'm a fan of old school gaming
I'm not a gamer but my kids are. I hope you guys don't mind me hijacking this thread to ask for game recommendations? They have an Xbox 360 and also a Wii (not Wii U). My younger two also have Nintendo DSes. I find buying Ames for the Xbox hard since a lot of them are geared more for older teens and adults. The only rated M game that I've allowed them to play is Halo, which they love. It doesn't deem to be quite as violent as the others. They're 12, 9, & 6, all boys. Anyway, ignore me if I'm being annoying LOL!

Back to your regularly scheduled program. 🙂

I don't mind at all! I love giving my two cents when it comes to video games. You're right though, as far as games aimed at younger kids/teens, the Xbox is not the best console for that, but you do have a lot of options regarding the Wii and the 3DS (but I'm guessing you're problem isn't with those two consoles). For the Xbox, I recommend Viva Piñata (I think they have 1 and 2, possibly more). They are really fun games where you basicaly grow a farm of piñata animals, sounds a bit silly but I'm an adult and I find the games super addictive! Any of the lego games would probably be great, and again, they are fun for older people, so I'm sure they would enjoy it (lego batman, lego Pirates of the Caribbean, lego Harry Potter etc.). Another one is Banjo Kazzoie Nuts and Bolts (this one is definitely appropriate, but not one of my favorites). Portal is another non violent one, but is highly puzzled based, so they might find it boring, but again the oldest might have fun with it.

Also, the kinect might be fun for the kids, if they don't have it I suggest looking into that. Personally I don't like it much, but I can see the appeal for younger people.

Thanks!
Yep, we've got Minecraft. They're complete Minecraft addicts lol! Got it on the Xbox, iPhone, iPad, computer, and Samsung tablet. 🙂 My oldest likes sports games so we have NFL & FIFA. I did buy them Disney Infinity for Christmas and I'm going to be buying them the new Lego Marvel Heroes game. They're not interested in Skylanders unfortunately. They don't have Kinect but I think I'm going to buy them a Kinect sensor for Christmas, I think it will open up choices. The younger two would be willing to play Just Dance with their old mom, the older will probably just sit and mock lol.

My oldest has Portal on his PC; I wonder if it would be worth it to get it for Xbox too. I wish there was a Doctor Who game! Oh, is the original Xbox edition of Buffy: Chaos Bleed playable on Xbox 360? I'd play that with them. Or is the Game Cube/Wii version better?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

VisionGirl - there are Doctor Who games available for the PC and MAC at the BBC website: Links to the download pages.

The Gunpower Plot
Blood of the Cybermen
City of the Daleks
Shadows of the Vashta Nerada
Tardis

Portal and Portal 2 on the Xbox 360 are good games - both feature single and multi play (offline) options, there may be online play too, but don't quote me on that.

As far as Buffy games go, they were well received, but full of bugs and crashed quite often on the PS2. There are no games for the 360 as far as I know - someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

O/T - I have a PC and an Xbox 360 at the moment. I did have a PS1 & 2 till they went to the electronics graveyard in the sky. :'(

I'm considering getting an XBox One, but not for a couple of months. With all the glitches the major consoles all seem to have at launch it's not worth spending £430 on one only for it to have a none working Blue Ray drive (in the case of the XBOne).

I'm interested in the PS4 too, but not enough to actually get one till I've had a play with the machine. My friend is getting one for Christmas (he's got a VERY generous girl friend who's buying him BOTH consoles) so I'll have ample opportunity to try it.
