Okay, random question. I have had my ears gauged to a zero for years, but the still get irritated sometimes. Its mostly when I use metal tunnels or plugs, and my instinct is to blame it on my slight metal allergy...but I was wondering if anyone else 1. Had gauged ears and 2. Had that same issue and 3. Had a solution ??? Thanks 🙂

A size zero? I had my ears stretched a few years ago. The holes are kinda ew now, i never went that big, around 12mm. I never ever used metal plugs/tunnels, only plastic/rubber ones , so sorry can't help you out with that. My ear lobes still get irritated sometimes for no apparent reason. SO annoying!
 
Do they become inflamed at all? If so, have you tried using vitamin e stuff on them? It helps calm the skin down and heal it slightly. Also tea tree oil is brilliant on my keiloids (when I get them, one piercing I've got has never quite settled and flares every six months or so) so that might be worth a try. Or your regular salt-water soaks.

I haven't tried tea tree oil. I use vitamin e on them whenever I am sleeping without anything in them. I clean with saline (or sea salt water when I don't have any saline)...I think its just my skin. Thanks for the suggestions though!

Haha! I never thought zeros were that big! Everyone I know who had 00s or smaller were able to shrink back to almost normal without any surgical intervention if they got tired of the look.

Typically, if you gauge backwards, it helps make your ears look normal. Like instead of ten, eight, six, you'd go six, eight, ten, until you get back to normal earrings.
It's a gauge for the size of the hole in your ears.

Mine have been a size two for years. They get aggravated every now and again, but I put hydrogen peroxide on a cotton swab and stick it through my ear and it helps a lot.

And I only put plastic through them. Metal gauges annoy me. I have a skin allergy to any non-precious metals.

What's weird is stainless steel works in my tongue...
 
I thought it was measured as in 'mm', like i started off from 4mm(you can start off from as tiny as 1) then i went up from a 4 to an 8 to a 12. Ah well, 😛
 
I'm not familiar with mm being used to measure them.

I was told not to use peroxide because it would dry them out. Saline seems to work as well.

It seems like it is pretty common for them to get aggravated no matter how long you've had them.

Yeah, peroxide is awful for piercings.
I've got to say I've never heard of these sizes either. Back when I had mine done it was all in mm. Mine were at 4 then 6 for a little while. I never had any problems at all with infection so I can't give you to much advice. I wore metal the entire time and just made sure that I washed them in the shower every morning and left them to soak in boiling salt water once a week.

An ex of mine had about 16 though and used to get the occasional irritation. When they got irritated he would leave his out overnight and swap from metal to plastic (or plastic to metal).

I went up to 6mm/2g (I think it is) for about 4 years but have retired them for about 4 years now, just because I wanted to wear dangly earings and stuff. I was going to stretch my 2nd set of holes but I never got round to it 😛

I think small ones are cute.. but still, i took mine out only because i think it looks ugly(12mm anyways) and it's become such a popular 'trend' these days for the cool kidz.(hah not cool imo) Blehh!
 
I still wear dangly earrings with mine. I just wear both.

I wasn't aware that it was trendy. Lol.

I have my ears double pierced. I've only gauged the first ones, so I can wear any earrings I want. The only problem is, when I got mine double pierced, is the same year my body chemistry changed and I'm not allergic to non-precious metals. Pretty much, I have to wear some kind of gold, and I HATE yellow gold... I have some pretty emerald (birth stone) earring I normally wear in the second piercing.
 
I originally gauged my ears because I was sensitive to all metal, precious or not, and there were a lot more wood, plastic, and glass options in bigger gauge sizes...and then after I got pregnant my body chemistry changed and I can tolerate most metals for short time frames (about 1 day).

I enjoy wearing glass in my ears the most. When it's cold outside, it's kind of cool to feel something cold in the middle of your war... Plus, I think the glass ones are easier to take in and out.
