Gay Straight and everything in between

Well, I am just a lesbian trapped in a mans body and I cant even spell pharomones but next time we go to Mary's Kitchen you can straighten me out.

Could anyone straighten you out? Does anyone have the strength?!?!

You know I think marrying gay men may well be the answer for me. At least they usually GET me! Would that work?

On the subject of marriage. I'm still undecided. I did it because I wanted children, and as a sociologist I was aware of research that showed the potential effects of unmarried parents and advantages in life. Nobody expected me to do it (and that may be another reason why I did). Now I'm not so sure anyone should!

I've well avoided this thread. : erm :
I am straight.. even though some people like to say that i'm confused. lmao.
I agree with Karol though, women are so much more better looking than men, but i do know for a fact that i'm straight from several past experiences. *cough* Girls just don't have that Ooomph that guys have. 😛

We married when I was seven months pregnant, because it was the simplest way of securing his rights as a father. None of us expected that to change anything - and it hasn't. I still think it would be even better if unmarried fathers had the same rights as married, though.

I never changed my name, so nothing has changed, apart from perhaps some complacency, but I suppose that happens after 15 years! I did feel it was better for the children.

Add that to the debate about gay marriage and that is a topic for another thread I think! However, if its ok for straight couples to think a marriage is better for children, why children of gay partnerships should not be afforded the same choice (whether it's marriage or marriage by another legally recognised name) is beyond me.

I'm gay as well & I just moved back to where I was born in Alabama...I've been nervous getting out there & working...I don't want to be harrassed or discriminated against...I hate it. I've never had to hide who I am. When I lived in Illinois, it just wasn't that big of a deal & it isn't to some people here but to most people, they think it's just not right, mostly because of religion. I hate hiding it because it feels like I'm not being proud of who I am. But it's mostly for my safety because I have been jumped before so I have bad anxiety about it. But my mom even told me, it's not like you're lying & saying you're straight, you're just keeping it to yourself at your workplace where it is really nobody's business anyways & she's right. But it's hard to hide that I'm gay or keep it to myself...for me, most people just know lol plus it doesn't help that I haven't covered my ex boyfriend's name up that's on my right wrist. People don't understand how much harder it is for gay people to live in most places. It isn't easy but I truly believe we are some of the strongest people. I don't think gay people should have to be out to everyone...straight people don't go around saying I'm straight to everyone they meet. I think you can still be proud of who you are & only tell people that you are close to as in family/friends.

The sooner people get over the whole gay/straight/bi thing & just realise that the overriding concern should be the happiness that a person can find with another person, then the happier the whole frickin' world is going to be. It will happen, unfortunately I don't see it happening in my lifetime. I'm from Scotland where we are born homophobic & as a young man from a christian household I certainly was that. Over the years tho, I've come to realise I really couldn't care less if someone is gay, I'm more interested in the kind of person that they are & I realise now that orientation has no bearing on that.

Well said!
I identify as straight. Wes and Kai, you're not alone, lol.

I'm a big supporter for the rights for gays to marry. I've taken a personal vow to not get married until everyone can. I have quite a few gay/lesbian friends, and I couldn't care less what orientation someone is. Honestly, it's not something I think about at all. I look at the person, not the label. I just want people to be happy. I live in a very liberal, gay-friendly city, and we're very passionate here about gay rights and we all voted against Proposition 8.

I often think, though, that I was born the wrong sex, lol. I think I should have been born a gay man. Since childhood, I've always befriended boys more easily, and now, most of my close friends are male. It's not that I have anything against women obviously, but for some reason, I just identify more with men.

I would basically view myself as straight but if I fell for a woman then so be it. I think you are incredibly lucky to find love in the first place. To me it would be lunacy to turn away from that because the person you love doesn't fit into somebody elses' conventions of what love should look like.

I had one school friend who was ridiculously homophobic but she was also a world class arse, even before homophobia comes into play. She's the only person I know who had a problem with homosexuality, literally every other person I know is utterly unperturbed one way or another by it. It makes me kinda proud of where I'm from to be honest. Not too long ago it wasn't possible to be an openly homosexual person in Ireland.

I would be basically the exact same in the sense that pretty much all but one of my greatest friends are men. It never even crossed my mind though that me being a woman was somehow "wrong" in having those friendships.

Hehe, I thought I was the only girl who thought about it like that 😛

This is easier said than done if you are in a relationship. I o things with my husband, he is the father of my children, it is only natural for his name to pop up in conversations. While there is no need to stand on a lunch table and say: "Dear Collagues, I would very much like to tell you that I am gay," I also feel that there should be no need to keep references to a significant other out of office conversations.

I was actually a little hesitant on coming into this thread. For a long time now I've claimed to be bi-sexual. I know that I'm often attracted to both males and females, so I've always just assumed. However, adults always seem to tell me that I'm too young to possibly know; that I've not had sexual relations with either gender, so it's impossible to know my sexuality for sure. I read a magazine article which basically stated that due to teenage hormones it's not uncommon to be attracted to members of the same sex, even if you're heterosexual, so I honestly don't know. I think I'm bisexual, but I can't be 100% sure. I've never kissed a boy, I've never kissed a girl; so I can't really say, can I? I'm relatively sure that I'm bisexual, and I'm willing to tell people that. Most of my friends know that I class myself as being bi, and luckily none of them are so close-minded that they have a problem with it.

Basically, I think I'm too young to have a clue. I haven't had enough experience to know how I feel about either gender, properly. I'm very open-minded when it comes to orientation though; I really hate it when people are so cruel as to judge someone over their sexuality, it's not like anyone of us can control who we fall for. I know heterosexuals, homosexuals, bisexuals, pansexuals and even a few asexuals, though in fairness; orientation doesn't reall bother me, at all. I'm not even really bothered, right now, who I'm attracted to; I'm not going to force myself to decide whether I'm into guys, girls or both, I'm just gonna let time figure it out for me.

I started identifying as a lesbian when I was younger than you are. Didn't date or kiss anyone until years later. Still never regretted identifying myself that way.

I think that you are one of the most intelligent young people I've ever come across, and I think it's AWESOME that you are smart enough not to label yourself, and to wait til you've actually had experience to base your opinion on. 🙂 KUDOS! 😀

Aww, thank you. :P
I'm bi, but I prefer the term queer. It's just all-encompassing. I'm lucky, though. I go to an incredibly progressive school. Half the teachers here are gay and just as many of the students, so we don't get too much homophobia. And when we do, you can bet it gets shut down pretty quickly!

So wish I had gone to your school!
I grew up in a town of 3100 people in it. They were racist, homophobic, you name it... My best friend in high school was gay, and I completely understand why he never came out until after he moved away. He was terrified of being harassed and bullied because of his orientation. 🙁

Your new sig is a stunner.
I have no idea if I've posted on this thread or not yet. [Although on scrolling through, it appears not].

I identify as pansexual. I use this to define that I don't give a flying f... what body someone's in (male, female, transexual, transgender, hermpahrodite, whatever). If I find them attractive (be that physically or mentally or both or whatever) and they're single then I'm gonna make sure they know I'm avaliable! Life's too short to worry about what pokes where.

The sooner people get over the whole gay/straight/bi thing & just realise that the overriding concern should be the happiness that a person can find with another person, then the happier the whole frickin' world is going to be.
I agree with this. And the sooner people get over the whole male/female/whatever thing and realize sex/gender is just a construct everything will be a lot easier!

But. Gender is still (constructed as) a very real thing in our society, even though I wish it wasn't. So I suppose I identify as a lesbian, since I just don't really like men a whole lot (I've got the same problem with penises that InsaneMystic described), and the people I like to kiss/sleep with/hang out with tend to identify or be identified as women. I also only sleep with feminists, and I'm sure I have a whole bunch of other criteria for who I'd sleep with and who I wouldn't.

I agree with pretty much everything InsaneMystic said. I don't believe in marriage. I understand why someone would get married to get the legal benefits that can come with that, but generally I don't think it's okay that some relationships are recognized by the law and some aren't.

eponinethen, I don't agree that gender is entirely a social construct, biology comes into the picture as well. That said, I still think that gender ought not to matter (very much).

Well, I'm not trying to get into a discussion on whether or not gender is constructed. That's way too exhausting, heh. I'm just telling you how I see it in order to explain how I think about my sexuality/sexual preferences.
