Gellar Talks Buffy Toon

Sarah Michelle Gellar told SCI FI Wire that she turned down a chance to voice her most famous role in a proposed animated version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer because she couldn't devote the necessary time to the show. "Literally the joke is I'm a commitment-phobe actor right now," she said in an interview while promoting her latest film, The Grudge. "I am a commitment-phobe because I was nothing but contractually bound for years."

Gellar added, "I was contractually bound to Buffy, to the Scooby movies, to whatever it was. I don't do something unless I can commit 110 percent, and I just can't say that three times a month or this week I could actually, absolutely do an animated show."

Gellar said that she's not even sure the Buffy fan base would go for an animated series. "What's the term everyone uses?" she asked. "Jumping the shark. You never want to inundate, in my opinion. I think Buffy went out when it was still on top. I felt like we came back in that last season, did the show we wanted to do. I was really happy. I don't know why, then, you go back. What can Buffy do?

"I remember the pitch to me about the cartoon was like, 'She can turn into things and have magical powers,'" Gellar said. "To me, that wasn't what Buffy was about. To me, Buffy was a real girl. These were metaphors for real demons. This was about how, in high school, the demons of high school literally become these monsters. So I'm not sure why you'd make an animated show. And no one showed me a script."

Intresting...but its not like it takes that long to do a voice over....but hey she was thinking like some Buffy fans who basically said the exact same thing.
 
well that was the pitch to her, and it was probably around the first time they tried to do the cartoon. Im sure things have change and Buffy wont be changeing into things hopefully.
 
I hate to say it, but I can see what SMG is saying. She doesn't want to be locked into a contract.

That would really suck if the premise SMG mentioned is true.

Definatly terrible if she has magical powers blah blah, if it is I don't think I will watch it.
 
the pitch she was given sounded really bad... turning into things and having magickal powers... like Buffy will be an animated shape-shifter/witch?? or? if she will really turn into things, will it really be Buffy Buffy? i don't see how it will be... i do agree with her and i see her points...
i really liked Buffy show in real live people kind of style, and i'm not that hungry for more Buffy action that i'll resort to watching an animated show about a "Buffy" who can turn into things... sounds like a whole money thing to me! Sorta squeese the rest out of the Buffy name and/or consept (LOL i might sound alitle cynical there, sorry about that, but i still stand by my cynical coment :winking15 )

Sarah Michelle Gellar says she's too busy to do toon.

Talking to Sci Fi Wire, Sarah Michelle Gellar says she didn't sign to do the Buffy cartoon because she just didn't have the time.

"I don't do something unless I can commit 110 per cent, and I just can't say that three times a month or this week I could actually, absolutely do an animated show."

Sarah was unsure that further Buffy adventures are called for.

Sarah was also less than happy with the proposed storyline for the animated series.
