Georges Jeanty DragonCon Panel (Season 9 Spoilers)

Am I the only one who couldn't care less about Spuffy or Bangel? I didn't care much for either in the series (I did support Spuffy until I saw seasons 6 & 7 came).

I just want to read some good stories, which is what season 8 was lacking in. I hope Joss realizes we want good writing more than we want two characters to hook up. This isn't Twilight.

Well, Buffy has always had loads of romance in it. As compared to, say, AtS. But in both shows, the characters come before the plot, whether or not there's romance.

Call me cynical but much of the fandom seems to want their favourite 'ship to "win" more than they want anything else. The writers know that. Hence the endless pandering to the major shipping factions.

I think it is best all round if we don't ask Georges anymore shipping questions. It is rage inducing. Not that we didn't all know this stuff already...it's just Georges comments come with a weight that ours can't, and then you end up with rambling rants like this on message boards!

What weight? I don't get why people care what Jeanty thinks. His terrible art aside, he isn't writing the story. Nobody asks the camera men what they think of the TV show he is shooting. And even if they are asked their answers don't have any more weight than that of the average fan - unless they are based on some material that's not aired yet (or in Jeanty's case not published yet).

I agree; in terms of actually determining where the story goes, he has as much say as we do. However, he is a member of the creative team and because of that his opinion will get more attention and be accepted as "fact" in a way that yours, mine or any other person in fandom's never could. The reason I said we shouldn't pay much attention to his opinions on shipping (or any other Verse matters) is because his words are given an authority that they do not warrant.
