I've heard of some insane theories and proposed laws in my time, but this one takes the cake.


Legislatively speaking, some might say this year has been tough on women, but Jen Phillips thinks she's found the bill that takes the cake: In Georgia, State Rep. Bobby Franklin wants to criminalize not just abortions"”but miscarriages as well. His 10-page bill would make any "prenatal murder" a felony punishable by death or life in prison"”and that includes miscarriages, in the event the woman cannot prove that there was "no human involvement whatsoever in the causation" of her miscarriage, Phillips reports in Mother Jones.

What the actual *insert cuss word here*? How can anyone think they can get away with this?! And not only that, but this part makes me shake with anger, too:

Really?! As a victim of sexual assault/rape (came out of a very abusive relationship that I never shared with anyone in my family before to this day due to feeling ashamed and terrified) what the aljdfaljfdaljfad?! I mean, I find this to be a slap in the face to victims not to mention appalling. I just...I don't have any more words as I'm shaking with so much anger and contempt at the mere thought of this stupid bill being entertained.

I feel like I should post a comment in this thread because of this man's absolute ridiculousness, but he is already so fantastically stupid that you all really don't need me to point it out for you.
 
I just read his Wiki page...he's nuts...I was amused by this:

In January 2011, Franklin sponsored a bill that would do away with driver?s licenses in the State of Georgia. Franklin stated that the licenses represented "oppressive times" and "licensing of drivers cannot be required of free people, because taking on the restrictions of a license requires the surrender of an inalienable right." He further stated that the freedom of movement by operating an automobile should be open to all Americans, regardless of age or driving skills. He cemented these beliefs by noting that he does not object to 12 year old children driving cars on Georgia Highways.

Oh, yes! This is a great idea! Lets make a medical problem punishable by death. Not only will the parents feel miserable because they lost their child but lets kill the the parents too because there has not been enough sorrow in that family yet. *She said loaded with sarcasim*

How can that guy even think that punshing people who have miscarriages is a good idea? Was he smoking anything?
 
What? I'm sorry but what? Why are some people so dysfunctionally f*cked up? How could a freaking madman get elected in the first place? What makes him think he has some sort of God given right to say things like this let alone try and make them happen? I pray that this doesn't go ahead. These are decisions that will effect and influence people's lives. Of course in his cardboard box black and white world we're probably not even people...
 
There is CLEARLY something going wrong in this guy's head. I know! He escaped from a hospital, didn't he? There's some hospital missing one of its psychiatric patients and they have no idea he's a George State Rep.!

GOD! I'm so angry about this! To think that he wants people I love and care about, my mother being one of them, imprisoned for the rest of their lives or sentenced with the death penalty because of something so traumatic and soul destroying that they had no control over it makes me sick. How must his family feel? His mother, wife?
 
The latest vicious attacks of women's health by conservatives are very disturbing.

I'm sure you'll all aware that recently the U.S. House of Representatives voted to bar Planned Parenthood health centers from all federal funding for birth control, cancer screenings, HIV testing, and other lifesaving care. They claim this is ont he basis of wanting to halt abortions, but what they don't take into account is the many other vital services PP offers, such as counseling for victims of incest and low-cost cancer screenings.

Please, to all the women here, if you believe that woman have a right to comprehensive family planning, low-cost birth control and health services, AND the right to choose, please take action. I've already written to my senators, signed the petition, and donated. This is the worst attack of woman in a long time. Planned Parenthood and the three million women, men, and teens who are at risk of losing access to basic care.

I'm sorry, but I am through with tolerating people who hold different views then my own. Guess what, conservatives? If you support this bill you are no friend of mine.

In the wake of that awful bill that was attempting to re-define rape (!) this does not come as a shock, yet it is still unacceptable.

The conservatives who vote on these matters do not make their choices based on logic. If we bar access to affordable family planning services, there will be MORE unplanned pregnacies, MORE instances of cervical cancer, and MORE money will need to be spent in the long run. Duh.

I really can't tell what's worst. This guy or that people actually voted for him. He must have hidden his insanity well.

On the positive side. People like him make me feel incredibly clever.

The fact that there are that many people out there who were vocal enough in casting their votes that this man did get a seat in the HoR's, that's scary in and of itself.
Sure. And let's make cancer a crime too. Unless it can be proved that nothing man made can cause cancer. WTF? This guy should be locked in the loony bin with alternate reality Buffy.

Agreed. The pro-life intentions behind all the anti-PPH/anti-abortion legislation in Congress don't even make sense. PPH already cannot use federal funds for abortion, and vital services like cancer screenings, HIV/STI tests, and safe sex education save lives and actually prevent unwanted pregnancies (and subsequently, abortions!). And of the total services PPH offers, only 3 percent of those include abortion. The other 97%? Birth control, women's health services, STD testing and treatment, and cancer screening and prevention.
The recent legislation disproportionately targets the people who need these services the most. Write your senator if you live in the U.S., sign a petition, do something if you can. Because whether you consider yourself pro-life or pro-choice, we're all in the interest of saving lives and preventing unwanted pregnancies. This shouldn't pass.

Between this state rep, the recent proposed legislation in South Dakota that essentially would've made it legal to murder an abortion provider (thank god they backed off of that), the "forcible rape" bill in Congress...ugh. Just ugh. 🙁
