OK help please. I thought variant was just a different cover. Am I missing something? Is there something inside each variant that is different than the regular? I hope not cause I buy the variants for safe (unopened) keeping.

No. While I have heard of "variant editions" with differing content, most - including the Buffy Season 8 - differ only in the covers.

But you do understand, don't you TR, that the guys who have been getting listed as the artists of the variant cover, are also the pencilers for what happens between the covers?
Jo Chen is the exception. She only does the covers for Buffy Season 8, but hers' are not the variants.
