Hi, Im a big fan of firefly and dollhouse, and im interested in just getting into buffy as well.

Anything i should really know or watch out for before i get into it?

any tips? LOL.

I sure needed some tips about firefly.

Go for it!

Lol, I know, not the most helpful, but Buffy and Angel are both awesome, awesome shows. If you're into Joss-shows, you'll like it. Joss is superb at creating excellent characters and in my view, the ones in Buffy and Angel are by far his best. There are a lot of really great messages with characters you can really connect with. At face value, it's a show about supernatural things, but in both series they do a tremendous job of always bringing it back to the things that matter in real life.

For me, never been a show like it (I kind of consider both of them one big show).

I'm not really sure lol.

Obviously the most obvious tip is to watch it (lol), for some people they got into it straight away from the first episode, others it took 6/7/8 episodes etc before starting to gain any sort of interest. Again some people's interest didn't even come in the first season, they may have caught an episode from season 2/3/4/5, etc, and then decided to start from the beginning, so i would give it time if you don't like it straight away and see how it goes.

It's not ENTIRELY related, but there are cross over episodes with Angel, so you may want to check that out and see if you fancy watching that as well.

One of us one of us...

Join the Buffyverse its really quite neat
The only tip I can give is have fun

Out of curiousity, what did you need to watch Firefly? Anything needed to watch Dollhouse?

Don't care what you hear about the show and how they sound. Watch for yourself, get your own opinion and watch more than just the first season even if you don't get hooked. Not easy but try to avoid spoilers. They'll ruin a lot of things.

My tip would be stick with it.

Season 1 of Buffy isn't the best. I mean I don't hate it or anything, but it's only a glimpse of how great the show becomes. It gets waaaay better.

Yes, exactly. The first season is kinda weird, not least because of the low budget I could imagine. I mean, I love season 1, but I think you'll appreciate it more after watching the full series.
In my opinion, the actual series starts with season 2. That's when everything gets a mite more serious.

I love from the outset Buffy's nonchalant attitude..

Giles: Into every generation a slayer is born. One girl, in all the world, a Chosen One. One born with the – She finishes along with him.

Buffy/Giles:--the strength and skill to hunt the vampires –

Buffy: To stop the spread of their evil blah blah I’ve heard it, okay?

Definitely stick with it! BtVS is pretty slow in the first season, but it gets SO good in Seasons 2 and 3!

Honestly, if you're having trouble with the first season, all you need to watch is basically episodes 1, 2, 7, and 12 -- that covers most of what you need to know for the later seasons. Season 1 was a huge stumbling block for me (watched the first 8 episodes, then went away from it for two years, then came back to it later. Season 2 has a great main storyline, but a lot of the filler episodes aren't that good. I wasn't really hooked on the series until Surprise (S2E13), so it can take a while.

Honestly though, if you liked other Joss Whedon stuff, this show is very Whedon-y throughout, so if it was the writing and especially the dialogue that got you for the other shows, you'll be just fine with Buffy.

If you don't know already, there is a spin-off show although I won't mention the name so as not to spoil you (if you don't know already). So when you finish season 3 of Buffy, let us know and we'll tell you how to watch season 4 and the spin-off alternating episodes, so as to get the best impact of crossovers.

LOL, hope that wasn't too confusing! 😉

Unless you don't mind knowing some key plot points in advance, you may want to stay away from this board and others -- and give TV Tropes a wide berth as well -- until you're done with all seven seasons.

Ahh I'm kind of jealous you get to watch it with fresh eyes! Steer clear of spoilers and most of all...enjoy it! It's one hell of a journey 🙂
