I've never had any sort of experience with ghosts and I'm not sure I believe in them. I'm kinda 50/50 on it.
For those of you who do believe you've experienced them, were they totally random events or were you out looking for them? And did you believe before or did the experience change your mind?

It wasnt corner of the eye thing either.. it was more or less straight on face to face. I wasn't asleep or anything else. I have no explanation for it and it changed my views on it.

your comment about Richard Pryor was not appreciated (#19). I took it as an insult to the murdered people.
This is to let you know what the situation was. I had decided to go along a track to where 12 catholic monks were murdered by the Kings cavaliers at a time when all known catholic people were being persecuted in England. What caused me to see the burning skull is open, I would prefer to think it was the monks warning me to keep away, the alternative would involve some demonic entity, though the feeling I had was of great fear which I take took to mean the alternative version was the more probable.

I've experienced many sightings of dead people or of hearing sounds associated with those dead beings. Some of dead people I saw I was at the place to see them while some sightings were without prior knowledge of them being there. I don't include strange things as sightings, except for three occasions; once as above also when I tried to visit two mass burial sites (1000 plus people) not far from London UK. All places and sightings were after I became convinced there was something there, after the first few sightings that started my belief.
I like talking about the sightings I have experienced, if people don't believe me that is their choice.

Were there interactions between you and them or was it like you were observing them?
I used to live in a house that was haunted. Lots of weird things happening. And after we moved the new owners (who we hadn't told about the ghosts) actually decided to get the house exercised and called a medium. It was a bit surreal, but too much of it added up, there's no way someone could convince me it wasn't real.

At the last place I lived various things would happen, things being moved in the kitchen, locked doors opening and staying locked, a couple of times there was a dramatic temperature drop, I even saw the tv unplugged once and it kept working. That was a good thing as I watched tv but it didn't use any electricity and getting a temperature drop on a boiling hot day, even if you can't see anyone it was worth a thank you.
But saying hello to an old friend, shaking hands with them means nothing, until you get told the person died a few years before.

I've always been moderately mediumistic. In fact, I was in my 20's when I realized most people weren't. Nothing major - just most people I know have dropped by for at least one visit after they died - and on occasion I was given messages to deliver (which I hate because I feel dumb). I've seen the occasional spirit - and did reiki on something that sounds like a shadow person that everyone else saw but I didn't.
I really have no problems with skeptics. I can understand wanting proof. But I also believe in conservation of energy - when the energy that animates a body leaves the body then it goes somewhere. No religion - no belief in God - mostly just a belief in some sort of organizing principal. Fibonacci is not simple coincidence to me, but beyond that I have no ideas.

Because my younger daughter wanted me to make it go away. Reiki is an intelligent energy - and I had a block of salt on my shoulder when I was attuned. But you can't screw it up, people decide if they want it, and people seem to feel something when I use it (and my hands get really hella hot!)
I stood where she told me - offered reiki - said we had no dislike but it should go to the light. Since then everyone says it's gone. I never felt or saw it in the first place, so I'm just glad I could help.
I love the not knowing - the fact that it's an intelligent energy relieves me of any fear that I will unbalance or do harm. The western mind is so attuned to a mechanistic view of the body and the universe. The eastern mindset goes more toward the energies that keep us in existence. But once the AMA accepted acupuncture, the west accepted an energy system that goes beyond the physical.
Reiki calms me, and soothes me - and it seems to help others. I am actually a reiki master - but the fact that it has a positive effect is all I really need.

I always enjoyed a reiki session at school. I kept an open mind and I felt very good afterwards. Definitely different to the other treatments I learned.

I've been on a few ghost tours around the city, particulary City of The Dead which is owned by a friend. They do an overground one in Greyfriars Cemetery and also underground and go into a lot of history as Edinburgh has such a rich history for graverobbing and of course the underground tunnels. There is one particular group the cover the covenator prisoners and the conditions they were kept in. Heck the man that was responsible for their deaths is buried right next to where they were kept.
One explanation the tour goes into is what they suffered and the spirits and echos that are left behind. You take a bunch of people into a dark tomb, tell them stories and scare them and release energy and pheromones and it has to go somewhere and that is their explanation for the Mackenzie poltergeist which has been documented for years now.
I've not seen a ghost, sometimes I used to see Gandalf down Leith but i'm sure that was my medication.
I have felt presences from my old pets, my grandparents, a friend and my own mother. I'm a skeptic and a believer. It is not always my first port of call to think about it but I also cant ignore it. I was sitting in a pub when a woman came over and said I was practically screaming to her. She went on to describe my friend, his death, how I felt and our promise and how he was always around me. I had never met the woman before in my life.
I had another whom I know come to me after I lost my Mum and again the things she told me no one could know, also explained why I would wake up at 3am every morning.

Faith - my nephew died when he was 11. He didn't make it through heart surgery, and he knew he was going to die given what he said before surgery. When I was at his funeral - well, first, it was a glorious funeral, packed to the rafters, big pictures of Little Chris and probably every kid he had ever met. When I was there i was sort of questing for his presence. he was nowhere near he corpse - they never are.
But when I hugged his dad - Big Chris, there was little Chris wrapped around him - and he was so filled with glee. He adored the funeral. I called Chris later and told him what I had felt. He told me that it explained a lot. He had found himself craving food he didn't like but little Chris did. Most of all he found himself feeling things that he used to watch his son feel.

I'm sorry to hear about your nephew but i'm glad that you felt him. I don't think we truly lose people. Whether that is just me trying to get myself through losing my mother I can't say. It was the same when I started to feel her presence, was I just thinking it because I wanted to? I had started to convince myself that it was until I had it confirmed by someone else.

There is a little girl who has been to our house and said that there was a ghost named Sammy there. Then she corrected herself and said that wasn't his name, he was from Finland and he was one of the bricklayers who built this house and the two to the west of us. Then is all made sense - he was a Laplander, which in Finnish is a Saami.

He was such a gentle man and is quite the legend. He went missing and so many people were calling the police they had to put a sign up advising people he was ok and in hospital and the police were keeping his things for him. Back on topic I do feel that a cheesy saying is appropriate. Your mind is like a book, how do you expect to use it if you don't open it? I simply can't watch all those paranormal movies becaues they freak me out and set my imagination off.
