Just a wild guess here, but I'd say that the
"when it's most painful"
part might imply a reveal that Twilight is someone she trusted.
 
Oh, wow. That sounds...well, intriguing. I can't wait to find out more about what it is. I could be something to do with Twilight, or it could...not be.
 
We've been told there's a "big painful event" coming in season 8. I'm guessing Angel will arrive to help when things are at their most painful for her.

After 9 seasons I don't see Angel being the one who actually betrays Buffy, although he might have to do things while helping her that *seem* like betrayal to her.
 
I'm guessing we're right about Twilight being Angelus so Angel has to come over to help

eh, I was big on that theory until
Angel got his Vampire back
at this point it wouldn't make a lot of sense since they've put a lot of emphasis about Vamp with a Soul Angel has Angelus buried inside of him.

Ahem...ok I have two theories A) Angelus somehow manages to come to the fold and is Twilight (but considering Twiliight is actually a joke and not the real big bad I'm thinking not) or B) Angel comes to help Buffy with the Apocolypse which I'm thinking Willow has some say in.

To me it seems that the Scoobies have been haeding to implosion for about 3 seasons now and I think that is the 'pain' that he refers to.

But to be quite honest, I care not, cuz Angel is coming! Woohoo!

Well, I have often said that Joss is a hack writer and if season 9 is the 'last' Buffy I think Joss would give the fans (or the ones that matter!!) what they want. Angel and Angellus being separated and finally Angellus dying allowing Buffy and Angel to live happily ever after as humans.
 
I can't see Angel or Angelus being Twilight or working with him, her, it in any way. If Angel or Angelus turn out to be Twilight it will confirm my suspicion that the comics are only cannon as a marketing ploy because that is just plain STUPID. (more stupid than kitty dolls with vampire teeth)

I personally think the whole Angel being separate from Angelus is purely stupid, and hopefully Joss doesn't go that route, because that would be VERY disappointing and again STUPID, and wouldn't make a lick of sense. Maybe the painful moment is when she realizes that Riley has betrayed her. After all that woman that was chosen to protect that house showed Buffy on the ground bloodied and crying and said someone you least expect will betray you, and we kind of already were showed that that person is Riley. Unless Joss surprises us and pulls someone else out his @$$.
 
I have no idea what to think of this because I don't think Angel has anything to do with twilight lol I think maybe he will turn up when something giant has happened like Buffy finally realises that shes totally in love with Xander and is now pregnant! ok am twisted but that sounds painful for Angel lol Either way I think he will play a part somewhere but I don't see him being twilight at all.

Maybe he'll stop by to visit Buffy, and Twilight happens to attack at that moment. Angel would throw his fightin' axe at Twilight, it would kill him, and Twilight's groupies would see the error of their ways. That's how the saga should end, with Angel asking Buffy who the loser in the mask was, lol.

I wonder if it is just a general statement...Angel will turn up when it is most painful - because that's what he's done since he got his own show. I mean he showed up in season four after they's had their big fight over Faith and she was going out with someone new, He showed up when Joyce died and He showed up when Buffy was facing an apocalyptic battle with no real way strategy on how to fight it. All very painful times and really, the only times when narratively and logically he can put in an apperance.
