So 2 questions:

1.When Giles and Anya are speaking french in restless, what are they saying?
2. Are they still speaking french in the french dubbed version of btvs? 'Cause that wouldn't make sense. 🙂 it would be fun if they'd changed it to another language.

I think you're in the wrong section btw ;)
I should rewatch it, because I don't remember exactly what they say, but in a nutshell: they ask him to follow them so the creature couldn't catch him, and since he's reluctant (in a wtf way) they tell him to stop playing foolish games.
I have to say, it's not a very fluent french, the syntax and pronunciation are pretty weird, I actually don't get why they'd have the actors dubbed (maybe to make it even more strange ? idk)

It's been a long time since I last watch it with the french dubbed version, but if I remember correctly, the french bit was replaced by arabic.

And oops, can a mod change this to the btvs section? I was on my phone and the letters were small and I only looked for the four. 😀

ok, first of all, my brains almost blew up. The first bit with Giles is just incomprehensible, I mean the pronunciation is so bad, along with the syntax, which consists in copying the english one, which is very different from french. Anyway here's what I heard:

Giles: La maison où tu dors. Tes copains sont tous là , ayant un temps merveilleux et rentrant à  la vie normale. la créature ne peut pas te faire de mal (the house where you sleep. Your friends are all here, having a wonderful time and getting back to normal life. The creature can't hurt you)
Ah dis-donc, ce n'est pas le temps pour les jeux idiots ! (For God's sake, it's not time for foolish games!)

Anya: Il faut que tu viennes avec nous maintenant, on t'attend. (You have to come with us now, we're waiting for you)

Giles: C'est ce que j'essayais de lui dire (that's what I was trying to tell him)

Anya: C'est pas important, je t'escorte (it's not important, I('ll) escort you)

Giles: On y va (let's go)

Some sentences are actually ok, but most of it is serious french slaughtering ^^

P.S. : I live, breathe, eat procrastination 😀

Yes, I think that was the point. And if I recall correctly, I thought that it was Josh & someone else (his wife maybe?) speaking the lines in French. It's been awhile since I've listened to the commentary, so hopefully somebody else knows.

I just re-read stormwreath's commentary transcript over at LJ, and I'm wrong, Joss didn't mention it. But I did find this:
Information on the French dubbing, from Joss himself at the Bronze (the posting board at the old official site): "At the last minute I dragged my assistant DIEGO in to read it. He's Mexican, speaks a little French (yeah, he's trilingual, which for someone as barely unilingual as myself is both annoying and annoying) and he was reading off a script so it may not have sounded perfect to some but the effect was just great for the dream. Now y'know."

It doesn't mention who does the woman's voice.

[MENTION=10354]VisionGirl[/MENTION] : It makes sense, I more or less recognize a mexican accent, although I once read that the people dubbing were a british couple who had a house somewhere in France...

The French was replaced by Arabic? Wow, I was watching Restless recently and quickly changed it to the French dubbed version for that scene to experiment, and apparently I can't tell the difference between French and Arabic because I thought it had stayed the same, lmao.

I remember Restless aired here right after the same time I had to decide if I wanted to do Spanish or French in school, I picked Spanish but then along comes Giles and Anya speaking the lingua and, I lie not, it almost forced me to consider changing class!😱

BtW, Restless is badass!

Ooooh, really? Arabic? I'd love to hear how bad it is. 😀 American shows never put any effort when they want their characters to speak Arabic and it always ruins the scenes for me. Sayed in Lost was awful as well as Abed in Community. Hopefully, French Giles and Anya got their Arabic right. 😉

An old thread, but figured I'd give an answer. The Swedish had some Swedish words mixed with mostly gibberish. They sort of made it sound like Scandinavian though - as most of the world describe our "musicality" in the language like that.
