Giles and Buffy

I've haven't read all the comics does anyone know why Giles seems avoid Buffy? he practically dislikes, this kind of makes me feel bad because he was like a father figure to her
 
Giles wasn't avoiding Buffy for personal reasons in No Future for You. It wasn't like they just don't want to hang out together anymore. It was more a matter of business. Giles was organizing an assassination. He didn't want Buffy involved in it. Either because he didn't want to corrupt her, he didn't think she'd go for it, or a little of both.

After No Future for You Buffy is upset with Giles, because he kept his actions concerning contracting Faith to assassinate Gigi a secret.
 
I do see a little more distance between them though. I think this is more what Giles was looking to achieve in season 6 when he left. Buffy doesn't need him anymore. He was still needed for the cause, but in the more grey areas of morality.
 
I understand that Buffy doesn't need giles to help her with the slaying, but surely she needs a farther figure in her life, no matter how old we get or how much we 'grow up' we still 'need' our parents.

I'm not saying that people 'need' a farther in their lives to be 'normal', I was raised without my farther being around and so was Buffy for the latest part of her life but Giles was a farther figure and she has to be missing the support he gave her, hence the getting upset by her being out of the G-mans loop.

Hmm. I haven't "needed" or wanted parents since I was emancipated and on my own at 15.
They aren't going to win this if they are apart. They've never functioned well without each other. And if I'm looking at the future correctly, it looks like they lost.
 
Possibly Giles' actions in "Lies My Parents Told Me" and the ill feelings resulting from them were never really resolved, but that's only a guess on my part. Maybe it's just something as simple as that the creation of the new Army of Slayers and the responsibility of finding, recruiting, and training all of them kept everybody too busy to get together the way they used to. In fact, given those new conditions, it seems strange that Xander doesn't have his own separate post somewhere the was Willow and Andrew do. Then again, maybe the Scotland location IS his post (he might feel more comfortable there after living in a castle during his stay with Dracula) and Buffy is free to move around among the various different locations in order to oversee the training of all of the girls. She might just be staying there at the moment because of Dawn's condition. The castle might be the only place where there are buildings big enough to house her and isolated enough that she could avoid public attention.
 
I think it's probably a combination of the not needing the teacher anymore, and of the distrust he created in "Lies", and of a couple of seasons of him already establishing that he wants Buffy to stand on her own.

Then you've got the 500 slayers in training they're all working with, which is probably making them very busy.

Buffy's growing control-freak-ism-ness may not have a lot of room for Giles at this stage in her life. Plus, it's noted that the distance she felt increasingly over the years is just intensifying now because of the nature of her work.

What I see in their distance from each other, though, is that Joss has created a need for reunion/re-meeting of minds between them, and hopefully that will happen.

I sometimes wonder if maybe Giles found out about Buffy pulling off that heist, and they had words as a result.
 
I see this as more of a 'letting go' type scenerio - Giles was obviously in love with Buffy during the time they spent together in Sunnydale but circumstances (as described above) led him to come to the conclusion that she has to learn to stand on her own two feet - hence the father-figure ideals. When he saw that she could, in part, take care of herself, Dawn and the Scoobies he decides that his presence is no longer required on a permenant basis and has taken the hard, perhaps even harsh, decision to distance himself from her and to give the other Slayers the benefit of his wisdom and knowledge - which, I think is a good thing considering he's the last of the Watchers (that we are aware of).

Of course this is all conjecture as I've not actually read any of the comics (yet) and don't have a scoobie myself about the story-line(s) therein.

Hmm... okay. Gotta say, I have not seen the Giles in love with Buffy thing. But, to each their own.
 
I would say he loved Buffy instead of being in love. If that makes any difference to you. It makes perfect sense in my little confused brain.
 
Shipper = someone who supports a certain relationship in the Buffyverse
Biles = Buffy + Giles

Biles is a veeeerrrrrrry unpopular ship, possibly only beaten in that regard by Cordonnor.

I was merely voicing my opinion on the relationship between Giles and Buffy.. Obviously it's an unpopular opinion but what the heck, it's mine and I'm sticking to it.

I'm thinkin' Biles is also about as popular as Bawn. Or is that Diles. I'm never good at figuring out these ship names, especially for the ones that give me the eeeuugghuughhs. But as for ships, there's just so many. You'd think with all these ships, there'd be more collisions and sinkings than there are. We should have a yacht race with all of these ships. 🙂

I guess if I had to pick a ship, I'd be a... Banspufuffandsu... shipper. But, honestly, I get seasick so I don't make it aboard very often. 🙂

Bawn = Buffy+Dawn? Ok, I know they´re not "real" sisters but yuck! Still same blood. Hoping for a little spelling mistake because of the Diles comment.

Not that Giles + Dawn is much better. But then I guess you´d call it Gawn.

There truly are some weird and sick people in the world if they have nothing better to do than create an incestuous relationship between two albeit fictional sisters.

I've written adult fiction before and touched on themes that I shan't go into here, but I've never gone down that route, nor would I - it just doesn't sit well ya know?
