Giles And The Bringer

In "Touched," when Files and the Potentials had captured and were interrogating the Bringer, did you get the impression that Giles was rather hasty in killing him? The man had barely finished answering the last question before Giles cut his throat. To me, at that moment, I actually thought that he was trying to keep the Bringer from saying TOO MUCH.

Well it just said, "we will laugh as you die" or something to that effect. Maybe Giles didn't want these girls, who were shaken up enough as it was, to hear stuff like this.

I don't think Giles is blood thirsty or anything.... but just look at his actions and also Wesleys. These Brits/Watchers are ruthless bastards, they'll cut a throat if it needs to be done no doubt.

Yes, it really suprised me that he killed him so quickly.
My first thought was also that he perhaps did it to hide something. But I don't think that was the reason.

I'm guessing he had it planned all along, knowing that it was unlikely that the Bringer would be able to tell them much.
If he hadn't killed him right there they would be stucked with a useless prisoner.
By doing it so quickly he got rid of that problem. The rest of the gang would probably never accept that solution if asked.

If it was his place to make such decisions is another question though... one that I'm not sure of myself.

I don't think it was anything to do with him trying to stop the Bringer talking, for any other reason that it would have disturbing and upsetting for the girls to hear.

I also think that he had witnessed many watchers, some of which were his friends, killed brutally by the Bringers, so I wouldn't expect him to show much mercy, especially as he had recently been under attack by them.

Yeah it seemed hasty, but we have seen in the past that Giles is more than capable of killing someone without a second thought if he felt it needed to be done.

When I first saw this one, and the subsequent viewings, I thought Giles just had heard enough at that point. By cutting his throat, he was reinforcing the fact that he's a badass, as well as reinforcing how monstrous the Bringers are. Just because they're bald and eyeless doesn't mean they get any special treatment..
